"I just signed up to leave a bad review for another company, and was looking at the "worst" companies, and could not believe PayPal was on the list! I am an Ebay addict who has used PayPal for years, and I tell you for a fact, I never, never, never once had even the hint of a problem.
They are one of the few truly reliable companies out there, at least as far as my experience and communication goes. I just couldn't let all those bad reviews pass without mentioning the problems might be someplace OTHER than PayPal (like computers and their users). I trust PayPal a hell of a lot more than I would trust a major bank...wouldn't you? And can you imagine what your online shopping life would be like without them? Just my 2 cents..."
"After deciding that shoplet.com was charging more than originally shown for shipping, I decided NOT to complete the transaction and closed the page. Paypal charged me anyway. When I sent a complaint for unauthorized transaction, they actually DENIED it and kept let shoplet.com have the money. I've contacted shoplet.com four times and PayPal.com twice. Nothing is resolved. Won't some other company with linear thinkeer replace PayPal so transactions can proceed smoothly without all the fraud that PayPal encourages from retailers? PayPal is neither a safe nor easy way to pay!"
"What BS! Just going to paypal from a merchant you are committed to the purchase!
I was transfered to paypal from a merchants website. While I was on paypals website, on only my second "click" or page, my browser crashed. I was on a advertisement page not a agreement page when the crash happened. I restarted, went back to paypal make sure I was not charged. Results came back as no transactions in the past x amount of days, I tried three more times with the same result... no transactions.
Four hours later I got an email saying my purchase was successful. I called paypal and explained my situation, after talking with the supervisor her words were:
"I did not have to finalize payment because I had gone from the merchant to paypal, that was enough of a reason to charge my account." So beware! Just going to paypal from a merchant you are committed to the purchase! Total BS!"
"Last year I used PayPal a total of 614 times to pay mainly for eBay auctions but for approximately three dozen other online purchases as well. Out of all of those purchases, I had a total of ZERO problems that could be attributed to PayPal! I find that nothing short of completely impressive! I will continue to use PayPal for every online purchase that I make far into the future because if something ain't broke..."
"HORRIBLE - I bought a camera on December 10 and realized I entered the wrong address for shipping. Dec 11 early AM (before business hours), my refund was sent so I could purchase again with right address. It is now December 18th evening and paypal still has my money! They haven't even put it back in my paypal account let alone back in my bank account! They keep telling me it will take just a few more days to post back to my account. Those thieves are going to keep it for as long as they can. I don't trust them with anything more than small purchases, and I certainly will no longer accept payments through them.
Bad bad company, stay away. I wish some news channel would do an investigation into the way they really work. They're keeping our money for as long as possible to invest with it. They don't follow the same laws as real banks, but they will keep as much of our money as possible for as long as possible!
Update: 04/27/2012 I am changing my overall stars to reflect the vast majority of my purchases and sales on paypal. I still don't consider this a good company overall, because there are still so many ways to get screwed using them (mostly if you're a seller). Usually everything works out fine, but I have also lost money a handful of times over the last 5 years of using them."
"Just had my first claim.
Unfortunally paypal tells me that there guarantee isn't the same for websites like it is for Ebay.
Outright fraud website and they will do nothing about it.
BEWARE!!!!!!
Only use paypal on Ebay or trusted sites.
They will not guarentee your money. I should had used a regular credit card."
"Bought what was advertised as a new watch from a website displaying the PayPal logo and guarantee. The website shipped to me a used watch shipped ground when I paid for USPS Priority Mail from a drop shipper and it was shipped from another company. I attempted to contact the website with no emails returned and all the phone numbers are disconnected. I contacted the drop shipper they told me it was the buyers (the other website) problem for not telling me the condition of the item. I contacted PayPal to open a dispute, escalated it two days later and within 45 minutes of my escalating it to a claim PayPal emailed me back and told me they do not handle "quality" disputes and closed the claim. I tried to get PayPal to open it since it was a USED item, they refused, I tried to get them to open since the item I ordered I paid for USPS Priority mail and it was shipped via UPS ground 10 days later, again PayPal refused and would not state why.
PayPal is nothing but a haven for fraudulent people and so long as you ship someone a rock with a tracking number it's OK with PayPal.
This is an area I wish the US Government would regulate. "
"I have used PayPal for over 5 years (with about 5 transactions per year) and had always thought it provided security against fraud until something went wrong which allowed me to see what PayPal really is. They charge you faster than lightening. If it all goes well, bless you; if something goes wrong, you are on your own and will most likely never get your money back. When a seller charged me but never shipped the product, I tried to contact PayPal and filed a dispute online following PayPal's tutorial. After I completed the online dispute process, I received the following automatic message: We Have Registered Your Dispute. Thank you for registering your complaint about this transaction. Unfortunately, this type of transaction is not eligible for PayPal dispute resolution. We encourage you to continue to work directly with your seller, as we have found that many misunderstandings reach amicable solutions through communication. I had always thought PayPal was there to ensure that the seller does not charge me until the item is shipped. I am thoroughly disappointed at PayPal's service. I wish I had read the reviews at Resellerratings BEFORE I relied on PayPal to safeguard my payment.
Use PayPal if you don't want to give sellers your credit card number. But do not expect much protection against fraudulent transaction. "
"Paypal is horrible. I lost over 2000 dollars on them. I am an honest ebayer with 100% positive feedbacks. Last year I sold an item to someone and I saw the money in my paypal account. So I sent the buyer the item. Three days later, paypal took back the money and told me the creditcard the buyer used not belong to him. But isn't it the reason we use paypal for secure online transaction?
This year I sold an itme to a buyer and he received it. Then he filed a chargeback claimed he didn't get the item. Then paypal listened to him despite I've provided tons of evidence that the buyer got the item."
"I have nothing but good things to say about PayPal. I use them as both a customer and vendor. I just had a merchant who never sent product (see HomeAnnex) and they returned my $91.35 within one business day. This is how it is supposed to work."
"Paypal is a dishonest company that falsely advertises its transaction charge rates and then changes them after you accept the payment.
I have requested a payment for an item from another Paypal user. The payment arrived, and Paypal showed that it will assess a fee of 3.79 based on my account status at the time (personal). There was no other info on the "accept"/"deny" page. After clicking the accept button I was offered to upgrade my account to the "premier" status to get the "low" 2.9%+0.30 fee. I declined after which the fee was changed to 6.20. Nowhere on the initial page has I been shown that the fee would be 6.20.
Contacting customer service is pointless - most of their customer service reps are brain dead or pretend to be brain dead and keep repeating the same mantra like trained monkeys. Speaking with the "supervisor" (Name: Precious, ID# 40739) led to a repeated explanation of "your account is not premier, therefore the fee should be 4.9%+0.30".
From now on I will stay away from these crooks and recommend everyone to do the same. Read paypalsucks.com if you want to know more, wish I went to that site before opening a paypal account."
"I have been using Paypal for about 4 years now, without a hitch. Great service to use until you have a problem with an order.
I recently purchased a DVD set on Ebay from a seller with no history. I was leery, but I figured everyone has to start somewhere. And using Paypal I figured with their "buyer protection", and the fact that the seller had a confirmed address that I would be ok.
The seller had 9 of the items that i bought, and as soon as they were all purchased he closed his Ebay account, and when I got the confirmation of payment from Paypal, he had a different name and was now from China instead of Aurora IL (so much for the whole confirmed address thing huh?). I did not receive any confirmation from him. I figured that I got scammed and trying to be the nice guy, wanted to give Paypal a heads up.
Well the only way to have any contact with Paypal was to file a dispute. With the only reasons for filing being not receiving the item or receiving the wrong item. So I filed that I did not receive the item. Only to find out that all they do in that situation is to send my dispute to the seller.
I did what they asked and tried to contact the seller via email. Still no response from him.
The Item did show up one day. And of course it was a knock off of what I was supposed to get. So I escalated the dispute to a claim.
Paypal reviewed the claim and said that since I received the item that the claim was closed. So I figured I would open a new claim on the fact that it was not what I ordered. Guess what? I could not make another claim on the same item. There is no way to get in contact with Paypal to discuss it. Case closed, that's it!!!
So be very careful how you handle any disputes/claims with Paypal. Trust me they DO NOT want to honor the "Buyer protection" that they brag up.
I'm stuck with a $75. piece of crap. I only wrote this review in hopes of helping someone else to not get ripped off. "
"used paypal when I orderd through kikatek ecxellent service as always"
"I contacted Paypal regarding a fraud charge to my Paypal debit card ... I was told to complete the Dispute Affidavit (DA) and fax it to Paypal. The DA asked for the credit card number .. after much dispute w/ the representative finally she told me to put in the last 8 digit and fax it in ... I faxed in twice that day. I did not receive any confirmation of their receipt of my faxs ... I called again a couple of days later to follow up .. Another rep. told me that I should receive a confirmation ... but since I didn't .. to fax the document again ... still nothing to confirm their receipt or action on the fraud charges (I got my fax result saying the fax went through ok) ... it's been more than a week .. and no word ... if that's how they response to fraud ... I am afraid to try anything else.
.. every time i tried looking at the statement online .. i got "History Search is currently unavailable. Please try again later." .. so a week later the same message ... "
