"My husband purchased a MAC Cosmetics gift card through the Raise app in June 2016. The value on the card was $100. At the time of the purchase there was no such a thing as 1-year protection or at least we were not made aware of it. Both my husband and I are pretty responsible people when it comes to money and he doesn’t recall anything that would indicate that losing the money on the card was even a possibility.
I tried to use the gift card for the first time in July 2017. It was a card that could only been redeemed online and, due to the nature of the product, I had been looking in the MAC stores for a while to decide what to buy online. When I was finally ready to make a purchase, I found out the value had been completely wiped out. I contacted Raise via live chat and I was told I had lost my money. Nobody in the whole company could do anything to help me recover that money because I was just outside the 1-year protection. I wanted to know what happened but nobody could make the effort to investigate who was responsible for the illegal use of my gift card. They said it was possible MAC Cosmetics deactivated the gift card for inactivity. Nice way to put the blame on a respectable company! The representative offered to add a $15 credit to my husband’s account for the inconvenience.
I decided to further investigate this on my own and I contacted MAC. I was able to find out that MAC’s gift cards don't have expiration dates or inactivity penalties. After speaking with 3 different MAC customer representatives, I found out the card had been used on January 3rd by somebody else at the Staten Island Mall, in NY. The whole amount of $100 was illegally used then, only 6 MONTHS after we purchased it. I called Raise and relayed what I had found out, thinking that they would for sure help me recover the money, since it happened only 6 months after our purchase. Once again, I was told nothing could be done because I notified them outside of the 1 year protection. Nobody cared the actual fraud happened during the protection period. The representative told me they’ll use the information I found to look into the seller (of the card) and prevent him from doing business on Raise in an effort to make it a safer place. Nonetheless, Raise wouldn’t protect me, their very own customer who had been victim of a fraud using their “not so safe" marketplace. The customer rep offered to put another $10 dollar on my husband’s account.
There are many wrong things with the way Raise conducts their business and treats their customers.
1) I think it’s absolutely OUTREAGEOUS that Raise is going to use the information I obtained to protect themselves and other customers, but they WON’T DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT ME, their very own customer who has been victim of a fraud WITHIN their 1 year protection policy. I have done them a favor by telling them when and where the card was used (that took me more than 1 hour in phone calls with MAC representatives). Now they know the person who sold the gift card to us is not a reputable seller (while they initially dismissed the issue saying it was the probably the brand’s fault).
2) Even though they weren’t initially advertised to us at the time of the purchase, I understand the legal limitations. Nonetheless, I think a respectable business who cares about their reputation and their customers can look beyond this kind legalities and make an exception to policy, given certain circumstances. The fraud HAPPENED during the 1 year protection. There was no way for us to find out the gift card had been used illegally by somebody else. The application doesn’t let you check the balance. There's no system in place to let you know a card is being used or whether or not your card has been used illegally.
3) A respectable business that cares about their customers would advertise better their 1-year protection policy. A better way to do business would be to advertise the 1-year protection by sending out an email to their customers, instead of just posting it on their website. Also, a better way to conduct business would be sending out an email reminding you to use your gift card before the 1 year expires. This would be a way to gain customers' trust and loyalty. Alas, that’s not the case for Raise.
4) If my husband and I knew that buying a gift card from Raise wasn’t a sure transaction, we would have never done it! It’s pretty much like GAMBLING…you could save money or lose it all. We had no idea this could happen.
5) $25 credit sounds like an insult. Should that make me feel better about Raise? I’m prone to believe this happens quite often. I have read bad reviews online and it all makes sense.
If Raise really cares about their customers, they should come forward and contact us to offer a resolution that sounds less insulting than $25 credit.

"Use to use raise a lot but then they thought it was a good idea to put ridiculous limits on the amount of cards you can purchase on certain brands. As long as a customer's account is in good standing they should be able to purchase as much as they want. No big deal I now use CardCash and they are more than happy to take my my money with 0 restrictions on the amount I buy :)
So if you have a gift card you are trying to sell and it's just sitting there chances are it's because they are blocking buyers by putting limits. Bye Bye Raise it was fun while it lasted. This is an excellent example of "if you don't take care of your customers someone else is more than happy to". Let this be a lesson learned. "
"Unless your an amazon night owl that is. Come about 10 pm and I can't find a single card. Oh well, I always find another store to try out when I find really great deals. So far no problems."
"They hold any and all "travel" gift cards for at least 45 days before it even hits the marketplace for sale! They don't communicate this. I also had to contact them three times before I got a response. No other issues buying and selling many cards but I won't be back. This is too unethical and they have no intention of correcting.
**I appreciate the response back - now if only you responded back to your customers as quick as you did this review! Again, I do appreciate the follow up though!"
"New to Raise and had indicated that I wanted my payment sent via check before realizing there was a link to having my payment comes via direct deposit. I wanted to change my option and was able to have your representative cancel my previous option and let me select the payment method I wanted.
Was a great help with little effort on my end. "
"I am a first time customer with Raise and I think I am done. Not happy that two out of 4 cards I purchased where no good. You would think that they would verify what they sell before selling it and needless to say, before mailing it. One of the cards I received did not match the number on the shipping label and had an incorrect balance on it. Then a $50 card for Cheddars Restaurant was cancelled? I purchased these for gifting. My son's anniversary is in a few days . He loves Cheddars' and I was going to give them that card, so I called the number provided by Raise to check and make sure it had the correct balance and I could not believe the card was cancelled! I guess that means the card is useless! Of course I proceeded to check the remaining cards and another card that was supposed to be worth $25 had a $16 balance. I reported the problems and I am very nervous wondering if I just lost my money. Regardless of the outcome, I won't order any more cards from them. I don't have the time to be chasing them around to make sure I get what I purchased. I am glad I checked the cards and saved my son the embarrassment. Wow! Here I am shaking my head... For a moment I thought I got myself a deal."
"great deals, if anything goes wrong they stand behind their product and make it right for you the customer. the only problem i ever have w/ raise, is when i refer a friend, it's very hard to get my referral fee. make it easier raise!
"
"Purchased 200$ worth of gift cards and they turned out to hold a value of 35$. Customer Service will take days to respond with no help! "
"I called Customer Service with my problem and I was given a refund. They have a customer for life. Thank You."
