"I purchased a Sony camcorder from RytherCamera and it was very competitively priced. The product was received in a timely fashion and in a new sealed box, as advertised. I honestly cannot recall whether they offered a cheaper model without a US warranty, but if they did, I declined the offer and was not pressured in any way to change my order, add to my order, etc., which is a fairly common practice at many of the camera stores.

"Things started a bit rocky with this company. There was a bit of waiting and some misunderstandings with a customer service rep. But surprisingly I actually had a manager call me up to personally clear up any misunderstandings we had. What is important to understand about Ryther is that they are a small company and thus have to handle things differently because of their size. Understanding that puts everything into perspective and lets you realize just how hard this company is trying to be a major competitor. "Saw great deal on the hard to find Nikon D7000 Body. Placed order with Free Shipping option. Only after placing the order did I see fine print that indicated Free Shipping could take weeks and that cancelling an order would incur a 3% fee (for what???).
Suspicious, I did some more digging and realized that the D7000 they were selling was "gray market" and would not come with the original warranty from Nikon. I was able to call and speak with someone in customer service. They were forthright in admitting what I had found out and tried to sell me the more legit version of the D7000 which, at an increased cost of $200, I politely declined.
As long as they don't charge me the 3% fee the experience wasn't horrible, but be aware that when you are shopping for Ryther you may be in for some surprises."
"I can't believe this company has so many good reviews, as it's probably the worst buying experience I've ever had.
I ordered a Canon Rebel T3i which I received over two weeks later. It was advertised to come with a promo package of a carrying case, tripod, etc and it did not.
I had even called to confirm these things were included beforehand and they still didn't come. By the way, don't bother with email, they'll just reply asking you to call them-- I've tried several times.
I called them today to let them know I didn't receive these things and ended up getting transferred to a voice mail as soon as I started to explain.
Please save yourself the trouble and buy from a reputable company!
EDIT: I got a call from Ryther in response to this review, and they let me know that the promo items were in a separate order. Today, I received them as described. They apologized for the way I was treated and explained that they are a small company. Since I did eventually receive the items I expected to receive in working order, I'm upping my rating. I still think they could invest a lot more in customer service as well as transparency (for instance, it would have been nice to know that I had two separate shipments coming my way) if they want to survive as a company. However, I'm glad to know they at least deliver on what's advertised. "
"Ordered a Nikon D700. Because of the tsunami, USA models are in short supply. Salesman said that they have one in stock and gave me the specific item number for it. I entered that item number and ordered the camera on-line. The following day I get a phone call to confirm the order. I asked to verify that it was a USA model. Salesman tells me that a USA model costs $100 more. First red flag.
I tell him to cancel the order. He puts me on hold and after a few minutes, comes back and tells me the mngr said he could sell it for the price advertised. Go figure. Really? Second red flag.
Three days later, I get another phone call, and just after I answer, get put on hold. Who does that? Third red flag.
The salesman comes back on to tell me that my camera will ship in five days, but that the free shpng is not insured. It's a $2700 camera, so I add on the $35 shpng for the insurance. He tells me that it will take 9 days to ship. 4th red flag.
I have a bad feeling at this point, so I keep looking for the camera elsewhere. I find it. USA model. $100 cheaper. Delivery in 3 days. I order it and call to cancel this one. Can never get someone on the phone, so I leave 2 messages and send an email to CS.
Five days later (after ordering the other camera and it shipped in 3 days, so 8 total) I get a notification that it shipped. What??? I call the store and immediately get chastised by the salesman for buying it somewhere else. The he tells me that I will have to pay a restocking fee, for an item I cancelled and that hasn't even left their store. No gonna happen. Last red flag.
Shop somewhere else. "

I couldnt wait that long and opted for the 3 day $35 service and then I was offered a deal with memory card, shipping, bag and extended life battery for 100 and I took it.When I got the package 5 days later the battery was the original one that comes with the camera, memory card was the cheap $10 one and the bag I can get for about $15 other place so basically I got ripped off and Ryther camera will never get my business again."

"I ordered a Sony SLT-A33 DSLR from their web site on April 18th. After two days, and only because I decided to call them, they told me that they needed more documentation in order to process my request.
They asked for scans of my Passport, and both sides of my credit card. Also, they told me I should email them those documents, without any consideration for privacy.
I sent them an email asking why they were asking for such information and they didn't answer back.
I've ordered from different online stores multiple times and I never had this kind of issues before. I guess there's a first time for everything.
Anyway, I'm calling to cancel the order right now. I'm travelling to the states in 10 days and I need my camera!
Bottom Line: Never purchasing from them again. The whole experience felt like dealing with a pawnshop owner.
EDIT (04/23/11): Carl from Ryther Camera contacted me and apologized for the shortcomings in how orders are processed and asked me to reconsider my position towards their service, which I will do."
