"I recently suffered a hard disk breakdown which was under warranty.

I called SCAN on Tuesday morning and placed an order for a new hard disk. This was dispatched on the same day and on Wednesday noon I had it delivered. Excellent sales/delivery so far.

On Tuesday I also requested an RMA number in order to send my faulty hd back to them for a replacement. Got one and posted the item on Tuesday afternoon. Next Thursday I had my replacement back! That was 9 days after I posted my faulty disk to them (including the shipping time from me to them!). If that's not a fast turn around time for RMAs I don't know what is.

I was a bit scared with the various RMA stories I had heard about other retailers but I can't fault SCAN in any way. They handled the whole issue quickly and efficiently.

"One of the best companies on the net, if all sellers were this good the internet would be a much better place. Excellent service as usual which I have become accustomed to with Scan, so much so that if anyone requires computer related products the first name I mention is Scan.

"I ordered this Maxtor from Scan to back up my new computer. It was delivered to the Highlands of Scotland within 17 hours of my placing the order. Amazing. It works really well and is easy to set up. All in all, 10 out of 10."

"Being a bit of a stickler for researching online retailers before buying, I've had my eye on this company for several years before finally taking the plunge in Sept '08. All goods were delivered brand new, well-packed & on the appointed day as promised.

Would definitely shop again for the following reasons (apart from the above):
1. Many items are regularly featured on their discounted Today/only section. More often than not these cannot be matched/beaten by any other retailer (on that given day anyway).
2. I'm eligible for free delivery with them for any order totalling £20 excl VAT (this free del option isn't too difficult to obtain).
3. I'm able to choose a delivery day of my liking/convenience. Only purchased once thus far, so will have to see how this one goes over time!
4. They have active 'forum presence' in a few popular online public forums. This can be useful in solving problems if used wisely.

A few downsides, but they're not too major in my opinion:
1. They have been known on occasion (i.e. not that often, thank goodness!) to send out previously 'opened'/returned(?) goods as new. Items can be returned for a refund/replacement if not satisfied though. But Scan, you ought to think of the waste of time to your customers & waste of money to you in shipping out replacements (Also should be noted that some goods may be 'OEM', so may not come with any original packaging whatsoever).
2. Their stock variety/brands need expanding. They're good, but certain other etailers out-do them in this department.
3. Certain items make appearances on the Today/only page from time to time, but seem to completely disappear off the site, i.e. when looking for them using their general search option on another day!? Their 'Search' option needs to be improved in general too.

NOTE: Btw, I was required to provide a genuine Scan sales invoice number & date in order for this review to be accepted. I've always been somewhat dubious about these online shop reviews, but they're probably more genuine than otherwise thought - especially on sites like ResellerRatings. One aspect to keep in mind is that most consumers will post a review only when something goes wrong (human nature I guess), & quite possibly fewer will go 'out of their way' to post +ve reviews (I found this site in a Google search by accident). So I'd imagine the truth really lies somewhere in between, & usually a lot more towards the +ve side with the sheer amount most of the 'better' retailers do get right. In the end, one can only do their own research, make up their own minds & most importantly, be fair & honest in stating the good & the bad. I shall be returning to alter this review as & when required.

"I recently purchased a custom built pc from Scan. I was a little nervous about spending so much money on a pc but now that I have it I'm glad I chose Scan. From the the point of sale until delivery, they were totally professional. Their online tracking system lets you check up on how far along your system is and also when it has been through quality control they post 3dmark06 scores. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again."

"I used to believe Ebuyer was the epitome of reliable, prompt customer service for a reasonably priced computer hardware e-store. Then I stumbled across Scan. Not only have their prices undercut Ebuyer's on nearly every item I have investigated, but their range and frequency of stock exceeded Ebuyer's also. Responces from customer service were recieved after about five minutes as opposed to Ebuyer's hours, and they were extremely flexible in their service; adjustments were made to the order just as I requested.

If you want something, and Scan sells it, you'd be hard pushed to do better than to buy it there. Much recommended retailer.

"Had used Scan quite a few times, and spent thousands of pounds with them, pretty much because of their extensive product range and the convenience of buying everything from one shop (like supermarket shopping).

In my experience, they have a typical 'box-shifting' attitude of 'sell and forget'.
Once the gear has left their warehouse, you're totally on your own!

My patronage of Scan ended when they steadfastly refused (over a period of months) to take back a monitor that was just months old when it failed.
To be fair, the manufacturers: ASUS (utter scum) were considerably less helpful (if that's possible) although, I should never have been forced into a position of having to deal with them.
Ended up taking an essentially new monitor to the local tip.

Scan (and ASUS) will never see another penny from me.

"12 months ago I paid £4800 for a (supposed) state of the art gaming pc. From the day I got it until the present day it has never worked properly. Blue screens of death being a virtually daily happening (assuming I could get it to work at all).
Scan have variously blaimed :
the G-15 keyboard (they supplied it)
Razer Copperhead mouse (they supplied it)
The D-Link Wifi Dongle (they supplied it)
Windows Vista (they supplied it and there was no option to buy XP)
Playing WoW with an over clocked machine (they suggested I download Nvidia Ntune and everytime I run run it the pc crashes)
Kaspersky IS V6 (because it did not work with Vista) I bought Kaspersky IS V7 and still have the same problems.
I have asked for a refund or a working machine and have been ignored. I have sent the machine back 6/7 times and it still does not work.
My advice would be to AVOID Scam computers
