"I have ordered from thenerds several times since 2002. My last order was December 2006. As of Feb 14, 2008 I am being spammed relentlessly. I have never opted-in or asked to receive spam from thenerds. The company took it upon themselves to add me to their junk-mail list. Supposed opt-out instructions don't work. Very shady things happening at thenerds - in the seven years I have been keeping records (40+ online vendors) I have never had this happen before. "
"A huge banner on the front page of their website claims to offer a full refund on any purchases as well as refunding the cost of shipping back the item to be returned.
It turns out that you must pay for the ability to do this. I used Google Checkout to make my purchase, and there is no way to purchase this protection when using Google Checkout. My purchase was $200. I paid $15 to return the product. I was only credited $183. After I called to complain, the rude service rep "did me a favor" by giving me another $10, which means I is still was refunded $22 less than what I had to pay to purchase and then return the product."

the website said they had 73 in stock, but i called the 800# to verify, they confirmed, "plenty in stock". 3 days later I'm wondering when my stand will be arriving, but instead of a tracking notice, I've got a backorder notice. They went ahead and charged my card for a product they dont have in stock. To make it worse the website now says they have 79 in stock. I'm calling CS as soon as they open to see how many they have in stock now...
I will not do business again."
"Order was unilaterally cancelled by the supplier - allegedly some sort of credit card problem, although no other merchant seems to have a problem.
What really annoyed me was that they failed to communicate with me; the website just showed that the order had been processed and I had to wait for tracking; and when I queried by email after waiting a week I got a one-line response saying just that the order had been cancelled.
This is a really hopeless way to handle a new customer relationship.

I ordered an Xpower Powerpack Solar power supply from thenerds.net. It arrived promptly, but the unit was defective. They charged me $19.30 to ship the unit, and I had to pay $12.69 to return it. So now I have no power supply, and I'm out $31.99. Of course, I'm also out for the time it took me to call the manufacturer, test the unit, ensure that it was defective, and repackage and ship the equipment. I wrote them and pointed out my complaint. Not only did they fail to respond, but they failed to credit my account when promised, and I had to call them and complain about that as well. When they did credit my account, they charged me a restocking fee! After complaining, they credited my account.
I won't be doing business with this company, and I advise that readers check the policy of any companies they do mail-order business with to ensure that they don't get stuck for shipping charges when vendors send out broken equipment. I would especially avoid thenerds.net.
I think it's wrong to charge me for shipping and handling if the product is defective. I'm being charged $19.30 for that even though the actual shipping charge from Harrisburg is about $11.25. Further, I have to pay $12.69 to return the broken unit. Of course, the time it took me to test the unit, call the manufacturer, and repackage and ship the equipment is not recoverable.

"TheNerds.net might have some good prices but it does not offset their horrid customer service. I decided to buy a Samsung X460 laptop, I used Microsoft Live Cash Back which brought me to Thenerds.net showing the best price and I'd also be getting $75 cashback. I also had a $10 store credit from a previous order. I placed the order for the laptop and sent their customer service an email asking them to apply the credit.
A few days later, the laptop shipped, no credit applied and no cashback listing. I sent multiple emails that went unanswered. Finally I sent an email to Microsoft and they credited me the Cash Back, but I still have yet to receive my $10 credit."
