"I love the prices, selection and the delivery is fast. Can’t stop looking every day! Thank you"
"Wish the clothes were in better categories"
"I can find items I want. I like the way the site is organized. The things I buy are as represented. The packaging is attractive, delivery prompt."
"Love everything about it!"
"I love buying from ThredUP because I always get quality clothes for a fraction of the price. Rut ring anything I don’t want is easy. I have no complaints."
"I’ve shopped with ThredUP a few times and even when i’m not looking to buy, I am constantly browsing through their merch on my ThredUP app...just for fun! They are well organized, with large selections, affordable prices, frequent discounts, and great customer service. For most things, they offer easy returns and if something is non-returnable, they let you know beforehand so you aren’t stuck with something you don’t want. ThredUP is one of my main go to’s for shopping! Highly recommend!"
"Everything I have purchased has been in beautiful condition. I love finding unique pieces. I recommend it to everyone!"
"I've recently tried Thred Up's new Goody Boxes - love love love them! You can get consigned clothing shipped right to your home to try on and then send back what isn't just right for you. They have a few options including having a box styled based on your preferences. They are definitely on point with today's trends! All the clothes I've received have been in excellent quality! "
"Heads up: so I bought 8 cute maternity items on thredUP. Well turns out they didn't bother to ship 4 of my 8 items and claim that there warehouse shipped them... don't know how they disappear from a sealed box but they did apparently. They gave me a refund as a "courtesy" not because they messed up. Which would be fine (although taking responsibility with it would be better). Well I live in Canada and they put all 8 items on the customs form so not only did I not get the 4 items the kicker is I also had to pay duty on them which they wont do anything about.
Needless to say I won't be buying anything else from them. And if you all do I would be careful..."
"BE VERY CAREFUL with Thredup! they give you pennies for your stuff, and I mean literally pennies...they'll worth in cents. If you want the stuff that didnt sell returned, you have to BUY it back at their cost! Then when you try to cash out, they'll charge you if you want your funds via PayPal (on top of all the fees they've taken out from your credits already) and if you use their prepaid visa card, there are a gazillion restrictions - can't use it a gas pump, can't use for online bills, cant use on certain retailers. and if you have a weird amount and your retailer can't split the amount, your visa card will decline. All these restrictions and the crappy way ThredUp does their valuation, makes me never want to do business with them again. "
"I feel ripped off as others have stated. I sent in a very full bag of items, One was a brand new beautiful white Shelli Segal Laundry winter coat. This item was not accepted apparently. Also sent in 2 Talbots sweaters, one cashmere. The cheaper sweater was accepted, but cashmere one not, even though both in excellent condition and same style, this years line. I have no idea what really happened to the clothing they didn't accept. I could have just donated items I didn't want myself. Never again. "
“Hi there. Thank you for your review. We have sent you a private message to discuss your concerns further. ”
"This is a buyer review from someone who used to widely recommend and love thredup. This review encompasses problems I have had with SEVERAL orders. Almost every order has issues. For those looking for a quick review, here is a summary of my complaints: 1. Drastically increasing prices - several items have climbed 40% or more in price in the past couple months (that are more frequently close to or exceeding retail prices) 2. Items frequently arrive not as described 3. Returns are an expensive hassle. My return complaints are broken down into several sub-complaints: a. $1.99 per item restocking fee. b. The need to contact a difficult to reach customer service in order to avoid return fees. c. Very long processing time before you get your return.
Also if you have store credit and you auto-buy an item, it will charge your card, not your store credit - very frustrating.
It's easy to write off this review as an exaggeration, but I have a wealth of anecdotal evidence:
1. Drastically increased prices:
I returned a dress I bought for $21.99 because it looked like it had been poorly hemmed by someone else. It is now $26.99. I also sold items for the first time recently and was given insight into their pricing. A size 4 Brave Soul dress I sent in that I bought for $11 was listed for $23 and size 8. A Forever 21 Dress I bought for $13.41 full price was listed at $19.99 on thredup. I have since adjusted the price, but the lowest they allow is $10.99. A different $20 forever21 dress was listed as $20 on thredup. (I still have the invoices from when I bought these items originally.) Several pricier items are now final sale too and I can't help but wonder what their reasoning is for making certain items final sale, but not other similarly priced items. Are they hiding damage?
2. Items arrive not as described frequently:
Two items that were advertised as "like new" - one came with a broken button, one was torn. A shirt was advertised as Chelsea and Violet but the tag said BCBGMAXAZRIA. One dress had bright orange floral printed pockets hand sewn in by the previous owner. Countless items have come to me with measurements very different from what the website said. Many more have been advertised as having minor damage but have arrived looking extremely worn. A blazer I recently bought was advertised as 00 Tall but is actually 00 Petite.
3. Returns are an expensive hassle:
After getting so many items not as described, the only way to truly get your money back without paying fees is to contact customer service. It's no secret that their customer service department is hard to get ahold of. At one point I was dealing with a man who almost comically didn't get what was going on. I was returning two items and getting a partial refund for two more. Except he made a return label for the wrong items, partially refunded the wrong items, told me to just send in my clothes with the return label that was created for the wrong label (i was later told this was wrong) and despite me SPELLING OUT which items I was referring to, complete with item numbers, he only acknowledged two at a time and seemed determined to do the exact opposite of what he was told. I finally had to finally contact a different thredup support through their facebook.
4. Bonus complaint: Goody Boxes
In an email, I was given an advertisement - "Want to try before you buy?" which detailed how goody boxes would let you try on the items in your cart plus a few more. This seemed like the answer to the restocking fee woes. I bought one. Not only did I get NO items from my cart even though I kept the same things there for the duration of the goody box curating period. None of the stuff was even close to what I wanted. Because I didn't buy much from the box (I kept a skirt i didnt really like out of guilt for paying for the box) they offered to let me try again for free. They asked what they could do better, so I said "No pants, XXS shirts". The goody box came and had three pairs of pants (one of them leggings - this box is supposed to be for work clothes) and none of the shirts were the right size. I give up. I don't understand how a company that was so good could get so much wrong in such a short span of time. I understand mistakes and growing pains, but this makes me feel like they don't care how many people they upset."

"ThredUP clearly doesn’t understand quality clothing. I sent in a full bag of barely used clothing, and got offered $1.80 for the whole thing. They only accepted 7 items out of the bag, and all of the items they accepted were the lowest quality out of the bag I sent. There is no way to know what they decided to do with the rest of the items, which were all good quality. I am tempted to suspect that they did keep those nicer items anyway and just didn’t tell me so. The items I sent in that weren’t accepted even included clothes I had previously bought from ThredUP (not that long ago)! There doesn’t seem to be any consistency in the way they sort and accept items to sell on their site. I do not recommend wasting your time with this company. "
“Hi there, thanks for the feedback. If you would like us to review your bag and offer more information, please reach out to support@thredup.com. Thank you!”
"Too little money back for the value of the clothing sent to them compounded by the time and hassle to actually get paid. They accepted a little over half the items we sent which was to be expected. In the end they paid an average of $1.00 per item. One item got held in an indefinite "reserve". We waited extra time to cash out because of this. It wasn't taken off reserve until we inquired (which had to be done via computer which tool extra time). They have no phone number you can call. Then you must request via computer to be paid which was a long process. Then they send you a prepaid VISA card which you must preactivate. The instructions for doing so are poor and the PIN they gave me isn't working so this is taking more time this morning! It would've been better to take the items to charity and take a tax deduction than to work so hard for $14.00!!!! "
“Hi Allie, we are sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with our Clean Out Program. It's important to remember, when selling with us, that we do have a payout percentage structure and strict acceptance guidelines. Our program is not about making money, and instead focuses on ease, access, and clothing repurposing. If you would like us to review your bag, we are more than happy to do so. Simply send us your account email and we will offer assistance.”
"The first clean out bag I sent they accepted 60% of my items and sold them all the second clean out bag I sent I had put some very nice things they e-mailed me that the got the bag and it was being processed November 3rd bag # B2BCK-3RF9N I’ve never heard from thred up again about the bag "
“Hi Kelene, Thank you for reaching out. There is no current record of communication with our Customer Service agents. However, to offer some insight on bag #B2BCK-3RF9N, this bag was marked for donation. Please reach out to support@thredup.com for a tax receipt to be sent to your email. Thank you.”
A rep from ThredUp, thredUP_CS, has responded:
“Hi Pin. Thank you for your review. We are sorry for any frustration regarding your order. We show that you've spoken with our support team regarding this matter, who confirmed that our team in the facility is confident these pieces were shipped with the rest of your order. A refund for the items you state were missing was issued, but any shipping fees associated with an order that was received are unable to be refunded. We are sorry this resolution did not meet expectations. ”
