"I have sent three large bags of women's clothes, baby clothes, toddler, and men's clothes and have disappointed each time they process my bag. I tried them out 3 times to see if it would get better and it got worse every time. This company is a JOKE!!! I regret ever selling or ( giving my clothes away for free) to this company. I would have rather donated the clothes to goodwill, but was hoping to make some decent money and re-use on their site for boys clothing for my son.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. I cant believe they are still a running operation.
"
"They don't have customer serivice or an 800 number, so if you have a problem with an order you will never hear back and if you do it won't be until long after the items you were interested in in the first place are gone!!! Terrible!! I can't say it enough! I wouldn't touch them again with a 10 foot pole!! Not surprised about all negative reviews, but am am a bit surprised they don't give a damn!"
"Someone should seriously investigate the business practices of this place. I sent in hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise and received $35.00, only $25.00 after the $10.00 they charged me to process the items. You want them to send your items back, even more money. Not to mention, they take over a month after receiving your bag to actually process it. Do yourself a favor go somewhere else or, just donate the items for a tax write off. "
"I'm not sure I've ever written a review about my experience with a company but I feel the need to warn you about this site. I sent in many high-quality items and after being charged $7 for the bag and $10 for "return assurance," I made $2. You will make much more money at your local consignment shop and you will find much better prices for items. I wish I looked at Thred Up reviews before I sent in my own clothing - I never would have sent my items here. "
"When I first discovered thredup it was great! My bags would arrive quickly, they would process it fairly quickly and my payout was good. I was hooked! I told lots of friends about thredup and they started using it too!
However the service has declined immensely. It takes months to receive a clean out bag (or your put on a wait list... seriously). When my bags arrive they take over a month process them. They process by date is always wrong. They said my current bag would be processed a week ago and I am still waiting. My payouts have declined greatly bag bags were bringing in $50ish bucks and my last two I have walked away with a few bucks. The clothes I send are all designer clothing a lot still with tags. It seems like a lot of my good clothing is turned away and it is confusing to me cause isn't that what they want. There website is full of old navy clothing which does not seem to be up to par.
I won't be using thred up again. It's a joke! Better off saving my time and energy and just donate my clothes or bring them to a local resell."
"It was so promising at the beginning. My bags arrived quickly and I though they will take all of my clothing especially that all were designer, once or never worn, most had tags on them. They also current style. It seems so easy to just put all my stuff to the bag and send it at once. Turned out that out of 50 items they only took 5 and if I wanted my clothes back I had to pay for them- wtf?! The processing took forever - once they took 3 months. For all the clothes and shoes I sent them (10 full bags - I had hard time closing them) they only gave me $132 and they didn't take all of the clothes - as they say. In order to get all my other clothes back that they supposedly didn't take I would have to pay around $12/bag so that means that I wouldn't even earn anything. Now they charge for bag so if you want to send something they will charge you $9.99 - this is a joke. I would rather give my clothes away to somebody or donate it or sell it by myself. If I could I would open a better service for all of us to sell our clothes. Oh and I thought that the pay out will be in for of a check and not Visa gift card or you can use pay pall but they will charge you 2% so again less money for you!!!!! SO DONE WITH THREDUP!!!!!!!"
"Never will I ever use this company. I read how wonderful they are on their advertisement and shipped by new and nearly new clothes to them. They paid a few dollars for my new clothes but hiked the price by 5 x on their website for re-sale. I also paid return assurance for my unsold clothes bag to be mailed out to me 3 months ago. So far I haven't received my bag despite paying $12.99. When I contacted Holly Ann at Thread up they very sweetly apologized that they mailed it out to a WRONG address! Again I updated my address with them. Again they mailed it to a WRONG address. I don't think I will ever see my clothes again. I could have donated them to charity to save this hassle instead of this rogue company."
"Would not recommend. Of the 4 items I sent they accepted 10. I received nothing I may receive 14 eventually. They are charging 125.00 for the 10 items. What a ripmoff. i expected more than 10% of what they will sell it for. "
"ThredUp is a terrible place to trade in items. My first bag they took a lot of items, I think to get me in the door as a seller. The next they took barely anything - including a few very nice pieces, a blazer I had actually recently work to work (so obviously not in bad shape) and a jacket I had only worn a few times. When I asked for items back because I didn't opt for the return option (which they charge a really high amount for!) they refused! SO beware - they will take a lot at first to get you in the door and then nothing. I find other online and brick and mortar resellers to be far easier to work with (and at least give you the option to have your pieces back without having to pay for them!). Also they will take 6-8 weeks to process your bag. "
"Forced me to attach amazon or fb account to even view the site - then STOLE my email provided through amazon (& who knows what else) to starting spamming me with email advertisements. Two in just one day. Finally get to the site and found overpriced clothing for the condition they are in. I'll stick with my local thrift shops."
"Sent in one bag with 18 items. Took 7 weeks to process and at that, I was awarded $6.30 upfront for six items. Five more are being sold under consignment and if they all sell I will receive about %18 on their list prices. Seven items were not accepted at all -- including two items with tags and two pairs of shoes never worn. Mistakes in the listing for items on sale: a brown sweater is listed as black (even the photo looks brown); a sweater and matching scarf are listed separately (customer service says that their policy is to not list "sets" together); two items on consignment are not listed as having "tags on" and one of those says it's slightly worn with a stain (not when I put it in the bag). Since the immediate pay-out amount is less than the $(.99 they want to charge me for the clean-out bag, I need to wait for items to sell before I can even use the proceeds to buy. Since you can change the price on consignment items, I'm considering lowering all of the prices and calling it a day. I would never recommend this method of consignment to any friends and would rather have delivered these items to Goodwill for a tax break."
"I really like the idea of not feeding into consumer culture and sustainability is important to me, but this is such a scam. If you are expecting a fair price for the stuff you are sending them, don't bother. You may as well donate. As far as being sustainable you are polluting on the shipping when you would be better off driving them to Goodwill. I've ordered stuff online fromThredup, but this selling experience really annoyed me, so I doubt I will buy anything in the future. It seems like a terribly flawed business model. Spend less on fancy packaging and figure out a better payout structure.
Also, the CEO wrote this really condescending blog post that is kind of gross: https://www.thredup.com/bg/p/we-want-to-buy-100-of-every-bag-you-send-us-period-oh-and-were-human
"
"This scam company's success depends on taking your clothes, paying you next to nothing for them, then marking the clothing up over 1000% to make a profit.
I made less than $6, for 9 items. Sent them new items with tags and in their original garment bags. The clothing was received in December and processed in February. It'll cost $10 to get your return items shipped back. By the time the processing is complete you've paid someone to rob you.
Left a vm.. no call back. Email reply took 3 days. Bbb complaint hasn't received a response, so it's clear that this company is in the business of taking your clothing AND profits.
Sell your clothes yourselves or drop them off with a local thrift store for a tax write off."
"I paid for the 'Return Assurance' - meaning they would send back any items that they chose not to keep. Well, after waiting a couple of months, I contacted them and was told, "oops". They lost 10 items! Then, they told me they gave me a crappy $65 for those lost items. Really???? $6.50 per item???? I'm hoping to speak with a supervisor soon - this is not acceptable!"
"I sent a huge bag of mostly brand new with tag items and received next to nothing for it. Items that they were selling for over $12.99 on their site from my bag, received only a payout of $0.65 cents. A huge scam for anyone selling their items through them. I don't have any experience with buying but selling is definitely a NOT. I sent the bag back to them in November of 2016 and they only processed the bag in January of 2017. On top of the small payout, they charged me $9.99 cents for processing, etc. "
