"So like most ppl, I got ripped off. 15 pieces fine clothes, they market $58-$98 and give back only $12, and it’s store credit. What’s more disgusting, I sent over 2 exact same dresses, one red, one black. They listed only the red and told me they “recycled” the black. Why? I have no idea where the black went and would never know. "
"Ridiculous all around! Placed an order a week ago and still no shipment! of course they took my money out of the account right away! been thing to get in touch with them, but no answer whatsoever! This website is a scam! Do NOT trust them!!!!"
"ThredUP started out pretty well, but they have really changed. I think I, and many others are becoming suspicious about their practices. I sent in thousands of dollars worth of clothes and shoes, and they claimed to have only kept several pieces. The clothes and shoes were in fine shape, but they claimed they were not good enough. I'm beginning to wonder if these people have a warehouse they are selling out of or employees who take your things home! ThredUP has become a company that no one trusts. "
"I sent two heavily-stuffed bags to ThredUp. One was accidently marked for "donation" which I was able to stop. The other I waited 5 weeks before they processed it, and when they finally got to it, I was given a grand total of $2.00 for 8 items that were accepted. I guess they thought I would forget what I had sent. I took photographs of everything before I placed them in the bags. RIP OFF. There customer service department is really hidden within the website and not easy to access. I was driven by anger and finally found a Live Chat person who proceeded to quote the company's polices to me.... She only credited me for the ridiculous $9.99 shipping and handling fee they charged. She also slightly admitted that they may not have given me my full allotment for the clothes they did accept. THIS WEBSITE IS STEALING YOUR CLOTHES and selling them for a high profit. When they donate you get no receipt. DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME. DO NOT JUST GIVE YOUR CLOTHES AWAY FOR FREE TO THIS RIP OFF, LYING, UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY. THEY DO NOT PAY YOU WHAT YOUR ITEMS ARE WORTH. DO NOT SELL TO THREDUP. "
"Yep, what everyone else said...complete and total rip-off. They took brand new designer items with tags from Anne Klein, Ben Sherman, and MNG and gave me a few bucks in return. I sent in a NWT (new with tags) Anne Klein suit and they are only selling the pants. Why would you break up a brand new suit? The jacket was beautiful with zero damage and now it's going to be recycled to make fabric? They claim only 8 out of 14 items are going to be resold but all were in excellent condition and from brand names. I would rather my items have gone to Goodwill or I could have sold on eBay. Never again."
"A bag stuffed to the brim with designer clothes and I made $1.88 after shipping fees. I'm sorry but that math just does not add up. Everybody needs to spread the word that this place is a scam and it needs to be shut down. I will be forever donating my NWT clothes from here on out and feeling a whole lot better about it. Something is wrong here. Very wrong. "
"I have sent three bags to thredUp and have been completely ripped off every time. I just received $11 for approximately $500 worth of designer goods, many brand new and some with tags. I always get the items they reject returned to me (for $11.99 I believe, plus the $10 fee for the initial bag itself.) The reason I have the rejected items returned is because the first time I didn't, they told me they were donated to charity, and I later found several for sale on their site. Who knows how many of them they did this with. I take the rejected goods to charity and get a tax receipt for their actual worth. Much better than giving your clothes to an unscrupulous company.
People who love to buy used clothes generally appear to like thredUp. If that's their thing, God bless them. They are paying too much. thredUp tries to get you to use your earnings to buy from them. They withhold your payment for 14 days after they process your bag, which takes over two months. This is in the hope that you completely forget to redeem your meager earnings (my $11). Probably lots of people do.
WARNING - if you are buying, they completely misrepresent labels. Most of the items they have listed in their section designated Nordstrom are Macy's or lower level store brands. If you know your brands, this is so easy to spot it is laughable. Maybe 2 out of 10 items are really from Nordstrom.
And the prices they pay you?!!! $2 for a brand new unworn pair of designer shoes. Give me a break!!!
I truly feel this company should be investigated by whatever agency does this type of thing. They are probably making millions from their ripoff of hundreds of thousands of sellers who expected more than a spit in the face."
"I stuffed my Polka Dot bag full of name brand clothing (a lot of Anthropologie, Ann Taylor Loft, etc) all of which were in great condition. The items they accepted were ones I had seriously considered giving to Goodwill and were from Old Navy, Gap, Kohls...lower end brands. The ones that disappeared into their black hole of "not accepted" were all my high end name brands. I only sent them to Thred Up thinking I would try and sell them and make a few $$. If I had realized Thred Up did not want them, I would have kept them and continued to wear them this spring and summer as they were not in bad shape. I feel there is something highly suspicious with the Thred Up process. I wonder if their employees get first pick and also free clothing from what is sent in for resale. I will not use them ever again to sell and I have such a bad taste in my mouth, it will be a long time, if ever, before I buy anything from them either. "
"I was impressed with thredUP's selection and bought several items from them. After trying everything on, I decided to return one item. There are several options for returning item, and I chose the one that would give me a full refund — but I had to pay $8.99 for a pre-paid shipping label.
The label was never sent to my email. I followed up with customer service, and they sent me an image of the return label. Unfortunately, the image was low resolution and was slightly blurry. The shipper couldn't use it. So I requested another shipping label, explaining that it needed to be an original, unscaled version.
They sent me an image again.
I contacted customer service again (third time now), and I didn't hear back within 24 hours. thredUP puts a time limit on your returns (1 week), and thanks to their poor handling of the shipping label, I was now out of time.
Terrible, time-consuming experience. I won't be using them again. "
"I sent them a clean out bag containing mostly new/never worn clothing and shoes, including a $150 pair of designer Donald J Pliner wedges and $100 Aldo boots........my payout is $6. I feel ripped off...I wish I never sent them my stuff or sold them myself :'( It also took WAY too long to process the bag, it was processed weeks past the estimated date. NEVER AGAIN!!"
"Sorry, I wanted to like your site. Have bought a few items from you and was not disappointed. But as a seller, ThredUp is more than disappointing. Sellers can do much much better by taking their items to their own local community resale and consignment shops. Example: they took an item for consignment, posted it at 12.99, and when it sold, my return was less than 1.00 - pennies! Then, if you want to cash out, that's when they charge you for shipping and handling! I'm done with ThredUP. And for those who are considering using it, don't! Use your time wisely, get much better return on your clothes, and then donate to the charity of YOUR choice!"
"I was a loyal buyer on Thred up. I decided to send a bag (had to pay $10.00 to send it per their policy). I was expecting maybe $10.00 on my bag of new goods. Not really big expectations since I read the reviews on reselling on the site. What I got was an insult. They took my items and gave me pennies for my loot. What a waste of time and resources. And if you want your unsold items returned to you, it's another $10.00. Ridiculous! I can drive up the street to my choice of three consignment stores in my area and get triple if not more (if you account for shipping and more shipping) for my unused items. Completely disappointed, almost angry that I wasted my time like this. "
"First time I sent a bag in I had a good experience. The bag was free and although it took a VERY long time to process the bag I got about $35 for stuff I was just going to donate anyway. The second time I ordered a bag it took over a month to even order it then I found out they were now CHARGING for the bag...unless you purchased something from their site, which I did. Again it took a very long time to process the bag and the result was $40 up front payout and about $39 of consignment goods. Not too bad. Then i realized they didn't take a very expensive Tory Burch top that was in season and on trend (as they requested). I inquired about it and I have to say they got back to me pretty quickly with a photo of the item (from the back) so I could identify it. I was so happy because I thought someone had stolen it. They then informed me that the item had a stain on it (which it didn't) and pointed it out in the photo (which you cannot see). I asked for the top back and since I didn't initially choose to have items returned they said that was impossible. I want to believe they are telling the truth but I just don't. I feel like they took a $300+ designer item and are selling it elsewhere. My friend sent in a bag FILLED with designer children's clothing and her payout was $6...the bag cost her $10 so they "forgave" the balance. I think that this started out as an amazing idea that benefitted the seller and now it has turned into something else. They got greedy. They are paying out MUCH less on items than they did months ago. Sad because I would have definitely continued to do business with them. But sadly, never again..."
"I have a six month old baby. A ton of clothes (brand NEW, brand NAME) given to us were for the wrong season. I had a winter baby and was gifted all these beautiful summer infant clothes. And babies grow faster than they wear most clothes. Long story short, tags were removed for the first initial wash before a baby wears clothes. But my girl didn't wear any of these clothes. I sent OVER 100 ITEMS of beautiful brand name clothes never worn!! AND I MADE $00!!!! They said I made $5.00 but after the shipping fee of 9.99 I'll legit get nothing. I'm sick just thinking about this!!!! All of those clothes gone! Wasted! There's no logical reason to turn them away! I didn't expect them all to be accepted because I felt that was a pipe dream but they only accepted like 5? No. What a scam!"
"Terrible. The worst. Never use again. Never recommend "
