".25 cents credit on consignment sold for at least 4.99 on thread up, is not only a rip off but an insult as well! The 1st bag i shipped i received 20$ total including my return unaccepted items charge, so i ended up with a 10$ credit. I believe they kept 5 of my items. Each item sold for 10$ or more. That was ok. The 2nd bag which i didnt ask for return they kept 3 items n are giving me a total of less than 1.50$ as credit when items sell, 1 had sold b4 they even told me they accepted it, but get this, but my funds would not be available for another 2-3 weeks! I also thot my unwanted items were donated to the needy but from what ive read online they are auctioned or sold to thrift stores n consignment shops. That should be illegal. I will never again do business with thread up!"
"First timer buyer, bought semi expensive item as gift ($230+) unable to return for atleast store credit nor replies to email. Very long shipping time."
"I’ve sold several bags over the years and at first was getting decent prices for items I sent. The last one I sent (chock full, by the way) I received a total of $13 for, and that’s if the consignment stuff sells. I’m incredibly disappointed and needless to say will not be sending them anything else. What started out as a seemingly great company has now devolved into something else entirely. What I feel the worst about is that I’ve recommended them to so many friends. STAY AWAY FROM THREDUP!!"
"Do not sell to ThreadUp. It is a complete ripoff. I sent them two full bags of almost new clothing including rag and bone, j brand and AG jeans and got paid $2 per item sold. It is bizarre. I also sent them a Burberry scarf and got paid 85 cents for it. Save yourself a trouble and donate your clothes to charity. This website should be shut down. It is a scam. "
"I ordered a cute Mia peep toe boot on 12/21/2017. Went in to track it and it said was delivered to my front door on Sunday 12/24/2017. Post doesn't run on Sunday. Definitely not Christmas Eve. I can't get a response from anyone about my package. And i never received it. "
"They steal your clothes..."
"I have been buying and selling with thredUP for four years. Initial bags shipped in for resale were yielding 80-125 bucks - this last round of four bags averaged $3.47. All were same name brands (BCBG, Kate Spade, some BR) sizes, condition and seasonality. The only good thing about their service is that I don’t have to drive it to Goodwill.
And their merchandise for sale? Who in their right mind would buy a used Loft sweater for 34 dollars? You can buy it cheaper new on sale in the store. Paying less to sellers, charging more to buyers.
You’ve lost a customer, my merchandise for resale and your tax write off from my bags.
"
"I purchased a coat for my daughter for Christmas on December 15, and on December 28 I've yet to receive the coat. In fact the tracking has completely come to a halt. Of course, ThredUp is no help because there is no way to contact a live representative.
The tracking showed the coat coming from Georgia; I live in Kansas. This is an easy 2-day turn around time, even during the holidays. Ridiculous and unacceptable shipping time.
This was my first purchase with ThredUp and it will be my LAST."
"I heard about thredup via some blogger who i should have stopped following years ago. I bought a green "Lord and Taylor" sweater which they originally priced at $145.00 for $29.00 (new with tags, too!). I thought that it would be some high end sweater but was surprised to receive some itchy wool sweater that Lord and Taylor sold for, originally $49.50 with a reduced price of $24.99 (the original price tag was still on the sweater). Not only did I spend more on this sweater than it was being sold a few seasons ago at the original store... it was no where near worth the 145 dollar value that Thredup put on the item. This is shady at best and deceptive at worst. Do not buy from this website. "
"My issue is not with the merchandise. The shipping is way too slow. I paid for expedited shipping to have items in time for a trip. I did this because the shipping had been very slow with previous orders. Items have not arrived so now I have to scramble to have things for vacation. This will be my last order with Thredup."
"Received an item that was not as advertised. Contacted Thred up, numerous emails and photo's as requested. Now I cannot log back into my account, nor have I heard back from them since requesting a return authorization. I have filed a claim with PayPal to try to get my money back.
Never again!! Less -10 "
"I have been using Thredup for several years. I used to average 100 dollars or more per bag of clothing. Now, the margin they pay for items is pathetic. A new with tag Kate Spade dress for 3 dollars when the site states 30. Current Elliot, AG and Joe's jeans 3 to 4 dollars, and they are stating at least 9... no thank you. I could have flipped these items at a fly by night yard sale for more. Plus, they refuse to respond to inquires. They used to have a decent margin for pay, understandably they need to make money too. But paying you 3 dollars and selling that item for 75 is highway robbery! Theft by deception is the only way I can describe the current state of affairs at Thredup. Not sure how it can even be legal to say they pay an estimated amount and then give you 90 percent less than advertised. Should an estimate come with parameters? If I had new tires installed on my car and they removed 90 percent of the tread I would have legal recourse.... but this site seems to no legal consequences for the misleading information they currently provide. This used to be a site that paid fairly and had acceptable customer service. However, this has changed and sellers should be warned they basically are losing their merchandise to someone to make a huge profit. Donate or sell it yourself! "
"I have consigned with local retailers and with Swap.com. I thought I would give thredUP a try. Sent in a bag of fairly expensive items, all of which had either never been worn (with tags on) or worn once and dry-cleaned. Items included limited edition William Rast jeans, a Lilly Pulitzer dress, a handmade Elizabeth & Jolie seersucker dress, and many Ralph Lauren polo shirts. My payout amounted to $11.15 (with potential earnings of $9.35).
It cost more to dry-clean the Elizabeth & Jolie dress (which cost over 170$ and was worn ONCE at a wedding), than I got paid for all the high-quality, designer items I sent. I made $14 on a (yes, a, as in ONE) Forever21 dress with Swap.com last week!
Consign elsewhere, or better yet, DONATE. I regret this so much. I should have donated this entire bag of nice items to people who really needed it instead of making a measly $12 from a ripoff company.
P.S. Was sent an email to follow-up on my experience and am still waiting on a response."
"This is a company that keeps moving the bar to favor their profit margin over the people who provide them with their wares. First, the pricing structure gave sellers an automatic consignment rate based on the selling price. In other words, if the price point was over a certain amount, the item automatically went on consignment and the higher the asking price, the greater the percentage for the seller. Now, ThredUp takes items they think will sell fast, regardless of price point, and gives the seller a meager percentage, then puts the other stuff on consignment with a ridiculously low payout to the seller. Their latest outrage, which is prompting this review, is (after already accepting consignment items at a fixed rate) they suddenly decide that the longer the consignment item takes to sell, the less the seller gets. This was done without notice or consent of the seller.
ThredUp takes less than half of items sent in by sellers. Personally, I have been appalled that designer clothing in perfect condition is somehow deemed not acceptable and thus owned by ThredUp, which OF COURSE monetizes the stolen loot without a cent being given to the seller.
This company is corrupt and actually stupid. They are alienating the people who supply their goods and I predict that most people will stop selling to them once they see how they are being screwed. I know I'll never send them another thing. I also think that they may be courting a class action lawsuit for corrupt business practices. Count me in."
"I sent a large bag of designer items all in perfect condition. After fees were deducted I received $9 which I used towards a purchase. Several items sold & I have not gotten any funds in my cash out. It also seem that several items that were on the site disappeared.
B2VA5-9WHHK 11/27/17 payout confirmed Where is the money? I think we know the answer.
Feeling ripped off"
