They take advantage

"ThredUp advertises their payouts and “green” motivations to make you feel good about giving to them. However, they take your clothes and barely compensate you. They accepted 17 items from my recent bag and paid me $0.00. This included some brand new items, which they have already made over $100 on. You are better off donating to the needy or your corner consignment shop, because ThredUp is making money off of people’s generosity and desire to be green. I have inquired with their customer service via email and FB. They do not respond to customer inquiries. They do not have a phone number. They do not have ratings on their website or FB page, so customers can not be informed by others. Stay away!!!"

Trust the "rip-off" reviews...they're accurate

"When I first starting using ThredUp, I received a fair rate for my clothing. My last bag from October 2017 netted me $198. This most recent bag, however...ThredUp accepted 20 of my items and listed them all as being in excellent "you might mistake it for new" condition. TWENTY ITEMS, and all but three have already sold. Wanna know how much they paid me for those twenty excellent quality items? $49.12. TOTAL. This includes a satin bomber jacket that they chose to list as a consignment piece, which netted me a whopping $0.55 when it sold. And then ThredUp turns around and sells items for WAY more than what they buy them for. It's a giant rip-off for sellers. Try your luck at a local second-hand store or consignment store. This service, while convenient, just isn't worth it. AT ALL. "

NOT WORTH THE EFFORT

"This is a second hand online selling or purchasing site. I actually made a purchase of two pairs of jeans, one blouse, and one clutch. Very disappointed in my purchase. one pair of jeans does not match the picture or description. In the online picture they appear to be a slim straight leg with a little kick at the hem. They are a relaxed skinny jean. The blouse appears to have been shrunk, and the clutch, which I paid $80.00 dollars for is more of a pencil bag (a very small pencil bag). Plus that was a final sale item, so no return. Yes, they do have free returns, but you actually get charged a $8.99 handling and processing fee. Will not purchase again, and for your own sake "BUYER BEWARE"!"

What a rip off

"I believe that ThredUp has recently changed its buying program. Before they offered a reasonable payout for a bag of items in great condition, but now it seems they’d rather offer pennies or scraps for the same thing. It’s a joke. Do not sell your clothes here. Donate or take to a local consignment store, or even try eBay. Maybe if we all band together and stop sending them product, they won’t have inventory to sell and remain in business. Cheap!"

Horrible company

"ThredUP will pay you about $0.25 per full bag of barely used clothes and sell each shirt you give them for $10-30. They also say they’ll give you a free bonus referral for your friends who sign up, but they actually don’t. I signed up with a referral code and was told after my first purchase I would get $10, but I received nothing. It was basically just a lie. If something like this does happen to you by the way, they have absolutely no contact information easily available on their site so good luck trying to get help if they mess up anything with your account. Never again.

"I wish I would’ve read reviews before I sent in a giant bag of practically new clothes. Most were from express and they were work clothes so they were in excellent condition since i worked in an office. The upfront money they gave me for my clothes was a joke. I could’ve held onto them and sold them at a garage sale for triple the amount or given them to a charity that I know actually helps people. Most of my consignment items they gave me a commission of $.30-.50 and they were selling them for $10-$30! There were also some items they marked for the “basement” meaning there was more then a minor defect I guess but all of the items they marked with that said it was from stains and I know for a fact that these items did not have stains or I wouldn’t have sent them in because they say they don’t accept items with stains. Yet they went ahead and made money off of my supposedly stained clothes. I just know they are liars so I won’t ever use them again and I’m not going to buy anything with my pittance they have me. "

Believe the bad reviews

"There was no rhyme or reason to what they accepted for resale - they took a 15 year old Zara skirt worth about $30 originally but not a 2 year old Theory sweater I paid >$200 for, or lots of other newer nicer things. And then gave 5% for the stuff they did take, so I wound up with a $2 pay out for a giant bag. And on top of it all, they say that the stuff they didn't take is sent to a fabric recycling program. One of the reasons I felt good about shopping here is that it seemed green, but the fact that they're basically throwing away a ton of perfectly good clothes makes me say never again. I will not shop here anymore & most definitely will never send anything else to them again. "

Great findings

"Regardless of the negative reviews . I decided to give it a try. Wow ! I was hesitating to to click "submit order" because it was a total of 85 dollars. I watched youtube, google and the more I read , the more scared I was. However, they had a jacket for 2.40 dlls , and a bunch of dresses for 5.60 dlls .My order shipped in 3 different packages . I got my first order today. It took 6 days to get here. I loved all the items ... very satisfied customer ... I cant wait for othet two to arrive next week..I will post an update if anything "

Received item with hole!!

"I recently bought my first purchase for them. When it arrived, I noticed a clearly visible and large hole on the inside of one of the jackets I bought that was said to be "like new." I emailed them and it took several days to get back. I made sure that the return shipping fee ($8.99) would be waived because it is unfair for me to pay for there mistake. Over a week later, I received an email saying that the return was process and the $8.99 was deducted out of my returned money! So yet again I have to contact them and wait until they reply several days later. They clearly have bad quality checks because the hole was extremely obvious. I would not recommend shopping with them, support your local thrift store instead."

Never Again

"The first time I sent a bag, I did ok, they at least gave me a $30 payout then I made another $20 or so in sales. So, I sent another bag...this time, they give me a payout of $3 ...and was giving me a commission f $0.70 and $0.50! but they sold the time for $15 and $20! They made $29 on one of my items that was new with tags on it and this item was grouped in that $3 payout...No way! No way! stay away from this site...I'll stick with doing local consignment stores or trying Swap.com. "

HORRIBLE

"I sent a huge bag of name brands like Gap, Calvin Klein, BCBG ect and I got back $3.75 I sent 10 items that they accepted and my bag is still selling right now!! Very bad experience! I could have donated these clothes or sold them on EBay. I will NEVER send a bag to them again!"

Nope.

"It's so little money for what you give them. I sent over a huge bag of premium women's/kids clothes, which totaled over $200 in inventory for them (probably close to $1,000 full retail) and I got about $22. So not worth it. I've gone in person to places like Buffalo Exchange and got between 40-60% of what they will eventually charge. ThredUp doesn't even offer a higher amount for a trade in value, which they should. There should be a "cash out" amount, and a "shop with us" amount. Also, I bought a pair of shoes and a cardigan with my "cash out". The cardigan was labeled as new (I paid $30 for it), and it had a hole in it.

Use the payoff estimator - don't be dissapointed

"I sent in a *full* bag of items, they accepted 14 to buy and 10 for consignment. For all 14 items, i'll receive only $20 (good brands, Gap, J.Crew Banana, Republic). I've sold 7 of the 10 consignment items and will only receive $3.50. I could've brought them to my local resale shop and at least received 30% as opposed to a measly 5%.

If you want to get money for your clothes, ThredUp is not the place. If you're going to donate them anyway or you have high end designer items, use ThredUp but make sure you use the payoff estimator.

Pathetic pay out

"Sent in my first bag of 15 New items, unworn and got 7.00. 4 items did not get accepted. These were, again new items unworn. Some were items I actually bought from them, but did not fit so sent back to sell. Ridiculous. "

Will never send them another thing

"This company used to be an awesome outlet to get rid of things, now, however, the dollar amount they give you, IF THEY ACCEPT IT, is absurd. Takes weeks to process your bag, a return assistance fee which is high and weeks to get your money. Additionally, they say they will donate your items, but we have found our stuff for sale on the site - so this must be illegal. This company is not one who should be in business or one you'll want to continue sending your items to. Donate them yourself (for a tax deduction and/or feel good feeling) or find a local consignment shop BUT DONT SEND YOUR ITEMS HERE. "
