"I'm writing this largely in response to everyone who has said that thred up is a scam. It's not. They clearly state in their FAQs and in the terms of service that it is 100% up to their discretion what they choose to sell, and how much they pay for it. Anyone who isn't okay with this shouldn't send their clothes in.
That being said, I've noticed within the last few months that they've restructured their pricing and I'm making WAY less than I was before. The first bag I sent in, I made $66 with only 3 consignment items (none of which sold). My most recent bag, I only made $10 upfront, and then an additional $22 off of 22 consignment items. It's clear that they're selling more items on consignment, probably to offset the cost of stocking items that never sell, which I imagine is a decent amount of their inventory.
Thred Up is fantastic for what it is - a way to send off your unneeded clothes and hopefully make a few bucks, while not having to deal with listing and shipping things online or visiting consignment stores. Those who have 'thousands of dollars' worth of NWT items should take them to a consignment store where they can make back 40% of what it sells for."
"ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! THESE PEOPLE STEAL YOUR ITEMS!- I would give them a zero if I could- they essentially kept several hundred dollars worth of coats and clothing and offered me less than $5.00. When I asked for them back, they said they donated the items- when I asked for a receipt for the donation - they couldn’t provide one. These people should be in jail for THEFT!! Please NEVER, NEVER use them!"
"I thought I'd give Thredup a try. Like all of you ladies I have way to many clothes, shoes and stuff.
Sent them 13 items. 8 sold within 2 weeks and the other 5 listed as consigned items. Total amount sold $176.92 which they collected. I got a whopping 29.83 credit to my account. That would roughly be 83.2% commission.
NEVER EVER AGAIN!! "
"I gave sent two bags to them. Normally I donate my used clothes to the local shelter, but I was doing a major move and had alot of new and higher end clothes do I figured why not get a little money for them. My first bag, which cost me 10.00 processing fee and took MONTHS to process, was given 17$ from threadup. So a net of 7$ for a huge bag of meticulously picked out and cleaned clothing. I was given a discount on my first order so I sucked it up and bought a dress at a good price. Unfortunately by this time I had already sent my second bag out which netted a whole 9.65 plus items on "consignment". Meaning I don't get anything (about 0.60) if they don't sell, but I also have to play 6-8$ to get them back which I was not going to do. So now here I am with just enough credit to the site to cover shipping and no discount so I can choose between buying overpriced clothing or just giving up my money and they can sell all the clothes they received at huge markups and who knows where the "donations" go. "
"Do not waste your time sending in clothes! They give you 30 cents for a shirt and then turn around and list it online for $50. They "accept" very few clothes. They still sell everything that has been sent in! Do not give them anything. Sell it on eBay, find a consignment shop or donate them to a worthy cause. But this company should be put out of business."

"As a public service, I want to share my unbelievably horrible experience with thredUP. In case you aren't familiar with them, they are an online clothing resale company. I did a major closet clean out in December and sent three very large bags of brand new, high quality clothing and shoes to thredUP. Of the first two bags, they accepted 26 items, and my payout was just over $15. You read that right....less than $.60 per item. And because I requested that my remaining items be returned to me (for $10.99 shipping), I'll be netting a whole $4.62 for my 26 items. Unfortunately, rejecting the offer is not an option, so I had no choice but to just accept the staggering loss. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, I received an email claiming that the third bag "contained insects and was thrown away", with absolutely no supporting evidence. I personally packed and sealed that bag and can guarantee that there were no insects in it, yet I have no way to prove it. For all I know, they're happily selling it's contents as I type this. I am literally sick that I sent THOUSANDS of dollars worth of clothing and shoes to thredUP only to essentially have it stolen from me. I would have much rather given these items to friends or donated them to people in need than to have this incredibly dishonest company profit from it. I used to be a huge fan of buying from thredUP, but I can never buy from them again now that I know how much they take advantage of their sellers. The damage is done for me, but please spread this information far and wide so that you can help prevent this from happening to anyone else.

"theft of items poor response"
"I paid $10 for a clean out bag and sent in 6 pair of name brand shoes including dansko, Italian leather company, loft, Michael kors, several blouses, dresses, and business pants, and they paid me a whopping $6, charged me $5 for processing, leaving me a dollar, which is -$9 net for me on sending my items in. ALL of the clothes sold on their site for $15-30 each the same day, the shoes they posted all sold and 2 of the shoes I know they have that I sent in and photographed, they have no record of me sending in, but they happen to be the brand new with tags Michael korrs and danskos. I’m negative in the deal and they are making hundreds. I’d do better at a yard sale or even giving them away. This is a scam & they are going to end up sued. You have no way of knowing beforehand what they’ll pay you and you have no recourse if they don’t pay you for your items."
"I have been consigning clothes since I was a young girl. This is by far the worst experience I have had with a company. They are not trustworthy! I sent them 20 items that were brand new WITH tags on them. So far 11 of those items have sold on their site (they send you a email when each item is sold so it is easy to track) and they are giving me a total of .26 cents!!!!!!!! the items that I sent were beautiful dressed and skirts, 5 skirts were suede and unworn with tags on them. I can see that they mad hundreds of dollars off the items and to see that they are only giving my .26 cents enrages me. I have been emailing the customer service line (because they don't have a phone number to call) for weeks and nobody has emailed me back. I will NEVER use this company again, they are making millions and giving people who actually have quality clothing to give PENNIES. Crooks."
"I wanted to love this! I love thrift stores. But as a flight attendant who is home for very short periods of time, I need companies that I deal with to be up front and clear with shipping options. I purchased over $200 worth of items and needed them to arrive by the end of three business days so I bypassed the free shipping and paid $11.99 for expedited shipping which indicated 1-2 business days. Perfect right? NO! Once I received the confirmation email, it indicated 1-3 business days but that was still ok and in my time frame until I read at the bottom that I also should allow another 1-3 business days of processing. Oh great. So I proceed to try and contact customer service to see what could be done. But no customer service!!!! The tab leads you to a FAQ page but no contact info. So I respond to my confirmation email. No answer. so I scour the site again. the only thing I can think to do is use Facebook. I write my experience and wait 28 hours before receiving a response to help. By this time it was too late. My large packages would be delivered after my departure and sitting on my porch for over a week. So had to find someone to pick them up for me. So frustrating. All this could have been avoided if they indicated this information when you choose the shipping option. Just tell me that expedited means only that the carrier is expedited. Your personnel will still be treating my order like a normal order and not preparing it any faster. Will stick to Amazon > Love my 2 day promise. "
"I HATE thredUP. They give you $0.20 - $2.00 for your name brand clothes and resell them for more than 10x that. For 14 pieces of my brand clothing, they're paying me about $19 and making $200. They will continue to **** off a lot of people and face several lawsuits.
I am also furious with their customer service. When you point out their burglary, they respond "I am sorry you feel that way, do you have any more questions for me?"
I'd rather donate all my clothes than to make these sick people any more money."
"After sending them 3 bags of clothes, shoes, belts, purses, I have a whopping 1.00 credit waiting for me. Bring your stuff to a Goodwill or like and take the tax credit....I promise you are much further ahead. This is a total racket they are running"
"I sent a huge bag of clothing and only a few items were listed. I searched the site and found at least one of my items for sale but they said it wasn't mine. Very shady!! Shopping here is okay but don't sell here. I sent the large bag and after paying shipping I received $3.56."
"1. I sent 2 bags of high end items and ended up with $14 and the only item they posted was a Fossil bag.
2. I ordered a gold purse that was shown to be a big size on the model. WHen it came - it's so small I gave it to my granddaughter. They misrepresented it big time. I complained and was told someone would get back with me. Well, you know how that goes...................
3. If you were to search for sweaters - you can tell very clearly that what they are "advertising" as a sweater is just a top.
Which I'd never heard of them to start with. Learned my lesson."
