"Placed order online on Sunday. Called on Monday to confirm stock. Called on Tuesday to find out why it hadn't shipped, found out they weren't getting it until Thursday. Waited on hold forever. Think they did their best to scuttle the purchase because I had a good deal on PriceWatch. No idea why they lied about having it in stock though. Felt suspiciously like a bate and switch, if you would call it that. Misguided preselling kind of scam. I would steer clear of this store."
"This was my first order with UMInc. I Ordered an AMD XP 1800 system. Just received system today. I am satisfied with it so far. Order was held up because the CDRW I ordered was out of stock. They said could ship immediately if I upgraded to a $9.00 more CDRW. I wish they would have called to tell me this long before. Anyway, they did ship immediately. My gripe is with their shipper (FED-ex) not them. They shipped 4/16 Fed-ex DROP (Literally) Shipped on my front yard without permission Today 4/22 after having the order on the truck for delivery since 4/19. I had to make complaint to Fed-ex. I called UMInc. today to ask if they would follow up with Fed-ex to advise their disappointment with their shipper. I talked to Jeremy, He was very nice. Listened to me gripe about it and took all the info. He said he would give it to the manager Justin for follow up. I hope to hear from him Soon. Anyway, I know they can't help what their shipper does but, hope they will stick up for their customer.
I order thousands of dollars worth of equipment from all sorts of places. I find UMInc. To be about Average to what I find elsewhere. The proof will be in the system reliability and support. Will keep all updated.
Thanks to Jeremy for listening to me gripe when it wasn't even about your company.

""I used to be disgusted, but now I'm just amused."
I ordered a system from these guys in April of 2001, because the system price was less than what I could buy all the components
plus freight elsewhere on the web. The system arrived later than promised. So many files were missing, according to sfc.exe that I had to reinstall W98SE. No big deal, but it shouldn't have happened.
The real kicker was that the fan/heatsink option I ordered from them drew so much current from the mobo, it burned out the fan header ruining the CPU and mobo. Sort of gives a whole new meaning to "burn-in".
Three emails to UM got no response of any kind. I had to get the BBB involved to get satisfaction.
The previous comment about multiple companies actually being the same is interesting. I believe that "A-Tack" computers may also be a UM clone. Seems like there's a real ring of fire in Solon. "
"very smooth transaction, very good communications, A++++++++++++++ "
"Anyone else get the impression that United Micro is posting all these positive reviews?
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) currently gives United Micro an “Unsatisfactory” rating. You should always check the BBB website before you buy from any online store.
Also, United Micro has a practice of setting up other companies that sell the same products from the same wharehouse using the same pricing database and essentially the same website source code. They may have more then one such cover company but we know for sure that NewLine PC is absolutely the same company as United Micro. If you are considering purchasing from Unitied Micro you should probably check to make sure that NewLine PC is also getting a decent rating. I don’t know why anyone would need more then one company if they are selling the same stuff at the same price with essentially the same interface (web source code).
"
"*** Obviously, You did not read my post.
My CC was billed over a week before the wrong MB shipped.
Goto PriceWatch.com and select PC - Kits; then search category with "8k3a" and you will notice only NewlinePC offers the newer 8k3a+ and UM offers only the older "8k3a" MB.
NOTICE that both UM/NewLinePC
entries misspell the same word "BIAGE" in their entries.
Perhaps Boris needs to find CTRL -C or V or spellcheck. I vote that we chip in and provide a CompUSA tng course, Any takers ????
All the past comments About UM are valid and correct. The few positive comments should be taken with a lot of salt; come on "SAM JACKSON" fess up - your not a movie star are you ?
My experience was far less than pleasent. After placing an order on 03/25/02 for a BB system, (which Jeremy Torchinsky said all items were in stock and would ship after the "3 day burn-in)
my CC was billed on the 26th. On 04/02/02, my order finally shiped after making daily enquiries from the 29th forward.
After receiving the system on 04/05, I immediately found that the wrong motherboard was invoiced and shipped. BTW I had requested a copy of said invoice to be faxed to me after ordering but was informed that couldn't be done due to their system or procedures.
After calling Justin @ ext 221 He states "Jeremy placed the order into the system wrong". Though I had Jeremy (at order) and Justin (29th forward) repeat my order to me several times for clarity, it comes up wrong ( SNIFF, SNIFF). After reading the legal verbage @ the bottom of my invoice. I realize that the joke is on me "the consumer"
***Below is an excerpt of their invoice
1. Absolutely no refunds after 30 days.
2. CPU's are warranted(sp) for a period of thirth (30) days from the invoice date.
3. *Shipping and handling charges are nonrefundable.
4. *Returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee.
5. *Canceled orders are subject to 3% restocking fee, plus $10 service chage.
Though their website and Pricewatch statements diferred, Item 3 was the gotcha for any consumer correcting the wrong item. After calling and finding that the resolution was to RMA their supposedly "Burned-in" MB and after they "check-in" the wrong board, I would recieve the correct item :) Of course the shipping cost I incured would only be refunded towards a future order. This would negate any savings I may have realized.
NOTE : Though the invoice was detailed with each item and its S/N, the price was summarized.
This accounting practice precludes any savvy customer from legally proving price paid for an item at dispute. Hmm, The $15 difference in the board I got versus the one I order precluded my from going through the transaction to correct their mistake. All I could think is "'How to get part of my pound of flesh" was to ask Justin to ship me an addition stick of memory (lifetime waranty) at a reduced price with free shipping ( only $2 under the best pricewatch lisitng). Of course, he was too busy to call me on the occasions he indicated he would. I always had to initiate the calls and ride them daily.
The entire joke on me was that I called "NewlinePC" not UM due to the pricing/shipping difference and the consumer can't purchase from them. A WHOIS check proves that they are the same company.

MORAL TO THE STORY :
IMHO, "BUYER BEWARE" rings true as always and sometime you must chalkup bad experiences to your education and hopefully get a little of flesh back as I did.
I may have saved $ 20-30 ( shipping savings only) by ordering from one reseller, but the time and effort was not worth the trip.
My bad experience (as many who post here as I found this site too late) is to provide a little guidance for others. I walk away from UM with a dirty feeling knowing that I have a working system which I will rely on the manufacturers waranty for serivce.
As I told Justin, it is obvious that their sales force is comp'ed only on the sale, not service.
Rule # 1 Always use a credit card
Rule # 2 only allow a charge to hit the day the order ships.
Rule # 3 Trust your "gut feeling" when dealing with people. Lie to me once amd I should not be surprised when I hear the next lie."
"After reading all the reviews on this company, I decided to place my order elsewhere. I cannot believe that a company would DARE treat people in this fashion.
It also strikes me funny that a majority of the positive comments seem somewhat fabricated (especially the ones in all caps - poor English structure, exact same spelling errors on identical words, heavy use of company name, etc.) It is a pity that posting here does not reveal an IP address, as that could be quite enlightening on this observation.
www.unitedmicro.com may have some really tempting prices, however, it seems to come with great risk (proven with majority rule in this forum). I would like to thank everyone that posted here in saving me from a major headache.
PS - MoBERT: Supply Shortage??!? I ordered my Gainward Ti4600 from newegg on Tuesday April 16th and it shipped yesterday (Fed-Ex 2nd day). At any rate, most of the complaints are not about the Geforce4 card, more likely saying a product is in stock when in reality it is not. Has anyone else noticed that there are currently only 2 items showing NOT in stock. Hmmmmmmm
"
"I ordered a Gainward Geforce4 Ti4600 VIVO card March 21 they didn't have this item in stock.. there website did not reflect this so I called them and canceled the order... today being April 17th I recieved an e-mail with a FedEx tracking number for the card I cancelled 3 weeks ago..
The customer service was kinda rude anyway and asked me why exactly did I want to cancel and order and I told him that they should have noted on their website this item was out of stock but they didn't and I thought this was bad business practice as I needed the part quick..
Well like others who have complained they have deliberately sent me the part 3 weeks after calling and cancelling the order..
In the end I got the card from Newegg.com in less than 24 Hours for $436 and they didn't LIE about it being in stock like United Micro or ATACOM did."
"You know the more I look into this it seems like there are 30-40 of these hardware companies all in that same small area of Solon Ohio. It looks like there is some kind of franchise or something. I mean, it seems like there is one large wharehouse of products and one big database that everyone shares (probably for a price). For instance there is one guy Vadim Kleyner that has 10-20 different companies with websites that are all selling the same stuff for the same prices. On top of which they are all using the same basic HTML source code. Its like they all get a basic HTML layout when they join up and they are suppose to make it look a bit different by changing some pictures here and there. This is the only thing that I can think of to explain why there are so many of these nearly identical hardware companies located within such a small area. Still it is clear that they all have some relation to each other. Maybe it isn’t a direct relation but there is definitely something strange going on in that State.
What really bothers me is the idea that any of these guys need to have more then one company. I can see having different companies to cater to different groups, like a high end company and a low end company and a large volume company etc, but all of these companies seem to be identical. It just doesn’t make sense why, for instance, United Micro needs to also sell under NewLine PC. We already know that having the ability to set up all of these company names can be easily abused. I mean clearly DigiRex tried to hide under their other company names (DGZone). In any case, how are we suppose to know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are if they are all using the same web source code and are all selling the same stuff and they are all accountable to no one (because they can just change their company name). Like for instance, maybe United Micro is a good honest company, but as far as we know they are just another DigiRex cover name. There just has to be a better way to identify the different groups that might use such a service as this. If I had one (or 20) of these companies I would really like to make sure that people wouldn't be able to confuse me with a truely evil company like DigiRex. I would really push the franchise into setting something up that would make sure that I could be distiguihsed from such bad companies. Heck, I don’t even know if there is a service or franchise or whatever. It is just really fishy. I think I’m going to just avoid Ohio all together for my future computer hardware purchases (at least until they set up some accountability between all of these obviously related companies-whatever that relation may be).
Anyway, if you are going to buy from any online store please make sure that you use a credit card. Also make sure that you are not billed before the product is shipped. This is an old sales trick to run up interest on money while delaying service. When the online store ships you the product double check to make sure that you got what you ordered. For instance, if you ordered a 7200rpm hard drive make sure they didn’t send you a 5400rpm thinking that you wouldn’t open the case. If you are not satisfied with your service contact the online store to get them to resolve it. If they refuse to resolve the situation to your satisfaction then you can easily report them at the following websites:
http://www.bbb.org
You will need to find the site for the DA in the state where the offending company is located but for the Ohio DA it is:
http://www.ag.state.oh.us
Both of these sites have an easy online complaint page that only takes a few seconds to fill out (remember this DA site is only for companies based in Ohio but there are the same types of websites for every state). You can also report them to the FBI and/or to their local police dept. If a company wants to stay in business (without just switching their company name) they will need to resolve these issues or they will lose sales. Even if you never get a satisfactory resolution your small effort to report online abuse will benefit others.

"I just wanted to say on the gainward video card back order I spoke with Justin and he was very up front and told me that I could expect my order within 7-14 days because of the shortage/delay at the gainward supplier.
Thanks for the help"
"Yeah, after waiting forever to get some info as to when I would get my gainward ti 4600, I finally gave up and cancelled my order. I cancelled on a Monday and called to verify on tuesday. well, they said that I hadn't cancelled my order. so I cancelled again. this company needs to work on its horrible customer service. Just an idea, stop taking back orders on item when the back order list gets too long. Bottom, they guys suck.
Go to Newegg.com that is what I did. I did some research and stepped down to a gainward ti 4400 for a better performance/price ratio. But that was based on the difference in price of the two. Go elsewhere with your business. Lowest price usually equals a scam or poor service.
I ordered my card from newegg last tuesday afternoon. It arrived friday morning. I have been enjoying the card every since. Had I stayed with UnitedCrap I would still be waiting."
"I just wanted to relay that I received my computer a short time ago and was very pleased that the salesman I spoke with helped me choose a very fast and efficient setup to get me up and running from an old 500 Mhz dinosaur.
thanks for the help!

"*FOR ALL CUSTOMERS OF UNITED MICRO*
I HAVE LOOKED INTO THIS CONNECTION BETWEEN DIGIREX, DGZONE, NEW LINE PC & UNITED MICRO.
HERE IS THE INFORMATION-->
UNITED MICRO & NEW LINE PC ARE AFFILIATES -> NEW LINE PC IS A DIRECT SUBSIDIARY OF UNITED MICRO. I CALLED TO VERIFY THIS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT RIGHT AWAY.
LOOKING INTO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU THERE IS NO MATCH OR OWNER, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER ETC. BETWEEN DIGIREX AND UNITED MICRO OR DGZONE,
OR DIGIREX AND NEW LINE PC OR DGZONE
LOOKING INTO THERE DNS INFORMATION BOTH COMPANIES USE OR USED THE SAME HOST PROVIDER BECAUSE IN NORTHEASTERN OHIO THE CARRIER OR HOST IS A HUGE HOST PROVIDER. **NOT** THE SAME SERVER!SAME HOST ONLY! TO CLARIFY THEY JUST USED A LARGE DSL WEB HOST CONGLOMERATE AND THAT'S IT. YOU CAN ALSO CONTACT A DIRECT REPRESENTATIVE TO CHECK INTO THAT FURTHER.
MY PERSONAL COMMENTARY -> PEOPLE WHO POST HERE REALLY SHOW THERE IGNORANCE BY BELIEVING THAT THERE HAS TO BE A CONSPIRACY OF SOME KIND.
I HAVE DEALT PERSONALLY WITH UNITED MICRO/NEW LINE PC AND HAVE HAD ITEMS ON BACK ORDER BUT THAT HAPPENS. I HAVE DEALT WITH MANY A SALES PEOPLE MANY TIMES AND HAVE HAD NO GRIPES BEFORE OR NOW.
SOME PEOPLE TRY TO MAKE SOLUTIONS TO YOUR COMPLAINTS SO WHY NOT TAKE IT UP DIRECTLY WITH THEM?
SINCERELY,
RETURN CUSTOMER"
"My business has been dealing with this company for over a year and a half now. We have had A1 service with them all the way. I recently had some trouble with a motherboard that I purchased and Robert, one of there Tech guys was right there with me ever step of the way. It wound up that it was nothing on there part. Thanks guys for being there for me and do ing a great job at making sure that I got back up and running FAST! You have my continued business today and down the road! Thanks again
