"I ordered from these guys a while back, before I learned about Reseller Ratings. I have to say that I regret not knowing about this site. I ordered a motherboard, RAM, and processor from them. I didn't think it was safe to ship the stuff put together (i.e. processor in the mobo, heatsink/fan mounted on the processor), but they had it all put together and shipped it in the motherboard box. In addition, I thought I ordered PC133 Micron RAM for it, but apparently they shipped me some brand called "Micro" at PC100, which is pretty sneaky. I started the computer, but it kept giving me DRAM:Bus frequency ratio errors. It worked most of the time (after a ton of fiddling), but gave me lots of headaches since I've had it.
Overall: don't buy from United Micro, they're a typical bait and switch online retailer
"
"Never againg will I order from this site.
I placed my order on the 3rd of this month and I am still waiting for it to be shipped.
I finally found out that they were out of stock on the motherboard, but was never informed by there staff. Not very good customer realations. I ask them to get it to me 2 day ground because it is for a customer of mine and it was going to cost me an additional 10 dallors for them not telling me it was not in stock....never again...NEVER"
"This company sold me a defective product after claiming to test it for 72 hours. On top of that the product turned out to be NOT as advertized (bait and switch). When my computer crapped out after a bit over a year of use they charged me for warranty service. After complaining to the BBB I've learned that they have numerous complaints and are rated unsaticfactory by them. DON'T USE THESE PEOPLE!!!
Update:
No satisfaction from BBB or Attrny Gen. The later says they don't have the resources to prosecute. I encourage other customers to complain. Maybe then this preditory business will die and it's owner, Mr Katz, will finally see the inside of a jail cell for some time to come.

"On 6/1/02, I placed an order for a 2.1 gig Athlon system (no monitor) , 512 megs DDR ram, and DVD ($982 delivered)that I configured using the "Configurator" on their website. The system was received on 6/15/02.
Bottom line, system runs like a dream! I would buy again from United Micro without any reservation."

"I ordered a Gainward Geforce 4 ti 4200 128MB golden sample. I was informed that the product was in stock and would ship the next day and I should receive my product within 3 days. I called back after 3 days only to find out the product hadn't been shipped but they had just received some and would make sure to ship it out to me, wednesday of this week (8 days after my order) I received my order, on day 9 I receieved my tracking #. I won't do busines with this company again."
"I ordered a GeForce 4 4200 from them BECAUSE they said it was "IN STOCK". The guy taking my order repeated told me it was IN STOCK because I told him I needed it within 5 days. When will it shipped I asked, "in two days" he claimed.
I called them 9 days later to ask where the card is and they tell me it hasn't shipped yet! I asked why and they said because it was not yet available. Well, why did the idiots tell me it was IN STOCK over a week ago only to put me on ice. Jez, these guys SUCK!"
"Absolutely horrible. I just cancelled my order for an xp 1800 system (approx $1,000). Order was placed on 5/13, after calling about 6 times (not including being hung-up on and re-dialing) over the past 2 weeks and getting a different shipping date for a different reason every single time I called (first it was normal delay, then the geforce 4ti4200 was out of stock, then it was being shipped immediately, etc.). I talked to a sales manager today who spouted that "upper management decided because of the holiday to ship everything next week." Not only was he unapologetic but he portrayed a "tough luck" and "I don't care if you cancel your order" attitude. Everyone I spoke to was either severely mis-informed or flat out lied. I won't do business with them again and I urge others to do the same until this company shows some hint of customer service."
"Two reasons I won't post my original sales receipt number. One, I don't want United Micro to know that I posted about them and two, I can't find the actual invoice anyway. But when I do, rest assured I'll post it again.
My story begins as such. I purchased a top of the line customized system from this company about four months ago. It had it all, 120GB HD, AMD 2000 chipset, 512MB, ATI Radeon 64MB etc etc. It also came with Windows XP, not one of my favorites but the only choice I had at the time.
Within 2 HOURS, not days or weeks, the system started crashing left and right. If I sneezed, the system would crash, it was that ridiculous. So I called United Micro and they told me it was bad memory. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt and after some haggling, sent the entire system back to them.
So I decided to up it a little while they had it, being a hardcore gamer, and had the ATI Radeon All In Wonder 8500 installed instead. No problem, extra 175 and have a nice day. (Mind you, I had to pay shipping during all of this hassle).
So I get the system back. Excellent! It lasted a whole week before it started crashing this time! So I called again, not saying who I was initially. It must be bad memory they said. Ok, I'm game for believing that the first time, but the second time too? If the memory is so bad, switch companies!
So I gave up this time. I sold the computer on Ebay to some other schlub who'll realize all too late that their computer is going to be great for a few hours then it will start crashing on them. Luckily, it's caveat emptor (buyer beware) on Ebay. Unfortunately, I should have read this site first before buying from United Micro. Does anyone know of a RELIABLE company that I may purchase a screaming gamer system from for a fairly reasonable/cheap price? Please email me at ****@**** and let me know. "
"I just came across this rating site when I was about to place an order with United Micro for a CPU/MB combo which was extremely low. I even called to place my order and ask a few questions that weren't very specific like if what they were selling was OEM or Retail. I didn't get a good feeling about the answer so with that and the price being so low I was cautious enough to try and find out about them. After reading all 20 pagees of mostly complaints I will not risk buying $500 worth of merchandise from them. I'll go with someone like NewEgg or Minotaur who I know have excellent service.I'll pay the extra which is really around the cheapest still online.
Just a note to United Micro though. There are just too many complaints here that all seem the same. I couldn't find this many minor complaints for NewEgg or Minotaur much less what your customers are saying here. It's bad when it gets to the point where the Better Business Bureau has as many marks as your company has.
I would avoid them even though your experience may be better than those stated here. Too risky for me."
"Great experience! Very fast delivery sales knowledgeable about products!
Definitely recommend
"
"Very impressed with:
1. The price of the computer
2. The time it took to configure and received the computer (2 days)
3. The quality of the assembly (drives were installed strait, cords inside bundled together)
4. The fact that all of the components we ordered were received as ordered
5. Follow-up and customer service. Phone calls answered the same day
I will certainly recommend United Micro to my friends and colleagues."
"UnitedMicro has always been able to provide the right selection of products at the right price and have them to me in a timely manner. After checking out thousands of onlne stores I keep coming back to the one that has treated me well so many times before. "
"Huum, in regards to Onlineshopper above, he sounds more like a company pr man than an average consumer. I wouldn't put anything past United Micro!
My problems are EXACTLY the same as was listed by Ritalin Kid, including ATACOM! But I have some extra experiences to pass along.
Ordered Gainward Ti4600/750 Golden Sample. They were backordered but I wasn't told. Called back a week later to find that out, so I cancelled my order.
I still recieved my order about 3 weeks later. First thing I noticed was the package arrived opened/unsealed. I called them back, and when I told them I wanted to return the card for a refund they put me on a forever hold. Tried several times to no avail. Finally I gave up and thought I would just keep the thing because of all the hassle, plus trying to convince anyone that the video box arrived unsealed would be quiet difficult.
The real problem was when I installed it, the Gainward was defective.
Now I call back and UM talks to me about a defective v card, but claims I know nothing about computers nor have the ability to judge the operability/functionality of any computer parts. They tell me to return the v card and they will test it, and if it is defective, they will send me a reburished or replacement v card. They told me to only send the v card only.
However I have already talked to people to has went through this same return policy only to find out they almost always send the same component back out, that you sent in, with nothing being done to the faulty product.
There is so much more I could add, but what's the use? You get the understanding of what I am going through. Personally I don't see how the law allows such business' to stay in operation, scamming the public!"
"I ordered a new home system from United Micro in March. I was disappointed that there was no way to track the order online. I had to call United Micro to find out the ship date and then had to call again to get the UPS tracking number. When the PC arrived, some of the CD's which should have come with it were missing. Unfortunately United Micro was difficult to contact (it was a Saturday) and when I did get a response I don't think they believed me. I had to reach a gentleman named Justin before I felt that someone believed me and would resolve the situation. With much patience and persistence, United Micro did finally resolve my problem to my satisfaction, although it took several weeks.
The PC which they built for me is asolutely excellent quality. You could not ask for a more professionally assemblied machine. I would purchase from United Micro again but I would "ride herd" on the order a little more closely though.
I think this is an honorable company that is trying to improve. "
