"I would feel better giving zero stars. If you see a positive review somewhere, the reviewer was most likely bribed into giving a positive review (I've spoken with customers who were approached to do this!)
I got trapped by the common scam I am now reading about on BBB, yelp and many other sites. I bought a camera on sale and was contacted the next day by 'Jimmy' letting me know that I ordered an international model, which would not work correctly in the US. I asked him to cancel my order, but that would incur a cancellation fee. He offered to switch the 'international model' with the US model for me, charging me the $600+ difference. I told him I would call him back after I had a chance to look at their website. He warned me that if I didn't make a decision in 20 minutes, the 'wrong' camera would be sent to me. I thought he was doing me a favor, so I authorized the additional charge (so I'm paying the same amount the camera is offered on most sites, including the Nikon website...). As soon as I got off the phone, I knew I had been scammed. The 'international model' has no functional difference. There are hundreds of reviews online from people who were fooled with the same story. I called 'Jimmy' back and left a voicemail. I also emailed asking for them to do the right thing, but I have never heard back from them. I'm now working with my bank and the BBB to get my money back. I have also contacted a lawyer to discuss a suit. If anyone wants to join in, I would happily add you to the filing. I hope this saves someone the headache I'm dealing with now!"
"I ordered a camera from here last May. They called and asked if I wanted to add the memory cards for it. I said yes, and then I realized they were selling them for twice the amount I could get them from anywhere else ($300 EACH, and I bought two). I called back within 12 minutes to cancel the cards; the man who answered sent me to voicemail. I left a message to cancel the cards. I followed up with an email to cancel the cards. They still sent them.
I sent several emails asking for return information to send the cards back. They ignored my emails and sent me to voicemail repeatedly when I called. I left many messages. I filed a dispute with PayPal. I got a call back from them THAT DAY with return info. I sent the cards back and closed my dispute (that was stupid, as I couldn't then reopen the dispute later, but I thought I was all set). They received the cards back and still to this day have not refunded my money.
When I call to ask them about my refund, they are absolutely disgustingly rude. I first time, he told me I wouldn't be getting my money back, but that he'd send the cards back to me. I said, "Excuse me? I don't want the cards back!" And he replied, "You're excused." I called to talk to someone else, and was sent to voicemail again. Seems that's the game they play. I never received the cards back either, and when I called to ask when those would be sent back, I was told "any day now." It's literally been a year. So now I'm out an extra $600 and don't even have the memory cards to show for it.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! They are fraudulent, awful people to work with with a complete lack of regard for their customers."
"Never got the package, they sell grey market products. Then try to sell you additional warranties which are useless. They also push you to buy more things from them. Never got my package. Paypal is working to resolve this. Avoid at all costs."
"I read the reviews _after_ I'd ordered a lens from them, and awaited the phone call. But when it came, Malcolm asked only two questions -- did I want the package to have a signature requirement, and then an off-hand ask if I needed a filter or anything for it. That was it. The lens arrived today in perfect shape.
Is it a USA lens? No idea. But I got a new lens for a price most places are asking for a used one, so I can't really complain. "
"Best prices online until I got a call later that the camera model I purchased was international and I had to pay an extra $200 for the US model. No mention of that on the website. Seems to happen to a lot of others so this is definitely done on purpose."
"They sell refurbished and used cameras as new. I could have bought a refurbished camera for a fraction of the price they charged me. Then they tried to lie about it and say the box, instruction manual, warranty card, and other accessories were missing because they opened the camera to test before shipping. "
"Bad costumer service. I recently purchased a camera and they sold me the article as new. Instead what I get was an open box with missing parts. I ordered a Sony a6600 ( body only) and what they did they out of a kit lens combo they took out the lens and send me the rest. On top of that the flash cap was missing. Very unprofessional and rude. Don’t do business with this people "
"The worst camera supplier in the USA! The ruddiest and most unhelpful employees I have ever talked with. They will lie to you every chance they get. I highly recommend you buy from any other source on the internet. A crack dealer on the corner would be a better bet!"
"Typical bait and switch scam.. "
"BEWARE of Willoughby's!! Bait and switch scammers!!
I recently ordered a lens from Willoughbys in NYC since their price was the lowest I could find next to other camera sites, eBay, Amazon, B&H, etc. So after I ordered and paid with Paypal, I got a call from them the following day stating that the model that I had ordered was the international model and that the US version one was a few hundred more....since I was caught off guard and at work when they called, I told them to just go ahead and bill me for the extra costs since I figured at this point with that 'higher' price, I was gonna get about the same price anywhere else. I was totally put off by this.
When I looked at the site again after getting home, I didn't see ANYTHING about "international model" in the lens description or anywhere on the page (I also recall stating that to them on the phone) and also saved screenshots of all the pages just in case....if it were an international model, wouldn't you think they would state that? That's not honest. It was odd because I read a lot of great reviews about this camera shop, too....or so I thought. I e-mailed them again and explained that if it was the international model and not the US model, then they should specify that in the item description since that price is misleading and dishonest, they didn't answer my e-mail, which I didn't expect them to....over the phone, they told me they wish they could honor that price but had some reason I didn't quite understand (I'm hard of hearing) and they also tried to add a filter for more money, I told them no, lol.
It was too late to cancel anything since they told me on the phone it would be shipped today. So I figured I'd wait and see what I got in the mail.....I already talked to Paypal about a dispute if needed, they said it was fine to open one if I felt I needed to for "item not described."
I received the lens about 4 days later - lens is a US model and I was able to register it's serial number on the Canon USA website with no issues so that alone tells me it's legit and not grey market, etc. They also never billed me for the extra few hundred sooo I am not going to worry about it let alone inquire about it. IF they do ever bill me, I would dispute it. I think I got very lucky....
So.....BE CAREFUL when purchasing from them!! Do better research and look up not only GOOD reviews, but BAD reviews as well, really take the time to Google and read different experiences from other customers. I was totally fooled, I let my excitement get the best of me so be careful. Just because you found a "lower price" doesn't mean it's 100% legit. I was surprised I fell for this because I am usually pretty careful with this sort of thing. "
"These guys are the absolute worst. Stay as far away from them as possible. They're awful at communication, never respond to order inquiries (by phone or email) and are super dismissive when you confront them. Just a garbage company to work with."
"Purchased Sony A7R IV. Received email notification that order would be processed in a few days. Then got another email to confirm order. I called and spoke to Jimmy and was offered extended warranty because they said the NEW Sony I bought had no US warranty. I refused to do so. Then I was told that the camera I purchased is a Chinese language camera, doesn't make sense, but they did to get out of this sale from selling it at a low price. To upgrade to a US camera, I need to pay an extra $300. What a scammer retailer. I worked for Sony for 4 years and Sony does not make Chinese language camera. Stay away from these unethical retailer. "
"They pulled the same thing on me that others have mentioned. The advertise one camera then call you before shipping and ask if you meant to purchase the "International" version. They state the camera you purchased won't have warranty, won't get upgrades and the WiFi won't work. Up sell you to the "US" version for considerably more money. I told them to cancel my order and they agreed to give me $100 off. Then when they camera shipped they did not apply the $100 discount. Total scam. I just requested a return authorization. "
"I ordered and paid the Sigma 35mm through paypal, they sent me a letter saying that it out of stock, but when I check back on their site it still said it in stock. What a scam!"
"The people here are very knowledgeable and more importantly, readily share that knowledge in a non-condescending and helpful, easy going manner to make non- cognoscenti camera buffs comfortable. These are expensive purchases and their manner places all levels of clients at ease. They were terrific with my budget, a first time SLR CAMERA buyer who is taking my gear to another continent without the ready access to services we have in the USA. BRAVO!
