"This company gets a waaay worse reputation than they deserve. As long as you understand how they function and can hold your ground, you can find some pretty awesome deals. Granted that all of their listed prices are 'grey market' items they also have a "US version' of everything they sell. Just call them up and ask them what is the price of the US version and I bet it will still be cheaper than most anywhere else!
I just bought a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC from A&M. They listed the price as $369 but the 'US version' was $399 which was still quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else. The shipping was free and all I had to pay was insurance. The lens was shipped on time and came as described with all standard accessories in full retail box.
That being said, do NOT order a grey market item from them because then they will try to sell you lousy and over-priced accesories that most likely come with the standard 'US version.'
Just be informed and you may save some money! Is it worth the savings? I suppose that's for you to decide."
"It was great to knew this guys ... because Im building a shoping web site, and I learned what I should not do. There are a lot of reviews in english, therefore i will write the rest in spanish !!!.

"Order from this company at your own risk. I placed my order on line using my debit card. I recieved an email from them saying my order was on hold for verification. I was to call them. This was three days after the order was placed. I spent 45 minutes being switched from recording to recording. When I finally got someone to talk to they said this was just "Policy." He switched me to another number and more music and then a voice mailbox says "I am away from my desk." I spent two hours total, trying to get someone to verify that I was "Legal," I sent an email and they sent one back saying the email dept couldn't help me and they couldn't send a message to the phone folks. I would have to call. I did call back. After another 30 minutes I left a message on the voice mail to cancel the order. I ordered the same camera from NewEgg.com. I saved $49.00 and recieved an email before midnight that it had been shipped. It is due here in three days. "
"They're still at it. I ordered a Sony CyberShot DSC-T1. Since I already have a battery and charger, I thought I would try this site for the cheap price, but of course the only camera they had "in stock" was one with a battery for
$50 above the price listed on their website. They cancelled the order, so all I lost was my time."
"I placed an order for a camera and couple of other items. The total came to $706.99. They charged $839.98 to my credit dard. I have tried severl times to contact them and today I finally got someone the phone. He tried to sell me an extended warrenty on the camera and I said no. Then he transfered me to someones voice mail where I also left a messge with my phone number. That was the last contact. "
"I placed an order for a Sony MiniDV HC21 camcorder (great price).Everything looked normal until I got an email asking to call them to confirm the purchase. I call and after waiting a long time decided to hung up and wait for them to call. A coupple of days later they did call and tried to sell me the "accesories". The guy just wanted to sell me a 4 hour battery and another charger. He didn't seem to know about the camere. He even told me the camera doesn't include a charger. I said that this doesn't makes sense, Sony puts for sale a digital camera with no charger. But he insisted I should get the other charger. I just said "please cancel my order". The response? He just said "Will do" and hung up. That was it. I keep checking my credit card. No cancelation email, nothing!
I will never buy from this store, just for the customer support."
"Classic Bait and Switch! Advertise lowest price, but not US product--then try to jack up the price. Do not waste your time."
"First of All I would like to "THANK" the other Commenters who have posted their reviews reguarding AM Photo and who have saved me much heart ache and financial Loss.
I recently Purchased a Canon Rebel 8MP camera from AMPhotoworld.com thinking I got a "Smokin Deal" and could finally start my business. Well my Dad always said, "When it sounds to good to be true it is!" I decided to look up the "Reviews" on AM Photo and My jaw almost hit the floor when I seen the posts.
I immediately called AM Photo to speak to a Rep. I was hung up on 4 times before someone actually would talk with me. I immediately said to them that I had concerns about their company and the Reviews By "You Guys" on the net, and was concerned about my purchase. The man told me nothing was put on my credit Card yet and if I wanted to Cancel my order. I Said "Yes". He said Ok and hung up. I then went to their site and put in my tracking # and it confirmed my order was cancelled. I will also do a follow up with my Credit Card Company and possibly try to cancel my card and issue a new one because I don't trust these people with that kind of information.
I would like to personally thank the "Reviewers" who posted their feedback and reviews of this Company. I cannot say my experience with A&M Photo was bad or Good, But I feel lucky I may have gotten out just in time thanks to "You Guys" Thanks Ken"
"I placed an order with this store for an advertised Panasonic Plasma Tv (TH-42PWD7UY) Price $1410. (Check their website) I was called and told I could buy warrantee for $500. I said no thanks, just wanted the TV. Next thing I knew, I received an email telling me my order was cancelled. I called on phone and they accused me of canceling the order because I didn't buy the warrantee. My cousin and I invented the bait and switch technique 50 years ago in New Jersey. This is classic. "A&M offered the Canon PowerShot for a remarkable $350. I ordered one online, and received an email asking me to call them. I did so, declined the offer to sell me accessories (battery, etc.). The phone rep was polite and efficient. I thought all was well. I received an email telling me that the camera was out of stock. Reading these other reviews, I don't expect follow up from A&M."
"BUYER BEWARE! SCAMMERS AT WORK!
Researched the net and purchased a Canon EOS 350D Rebel XT digital camera for $559 (best price found) from this merchant A&M Photo World, and like other reviewers, our order was then delayed a few days until we were subjected to the 'high pressure accessory pitch'. We agreed to buy a camera bag, a flashcard and a battery totaling $270, then the salesman (Robert) said 'For another $17, I can just send you the accessory kit' (which is not listed on the website). We agreed, expecting an invoice for $559 + $287 + $96 (2-day UPS shipping) = $942. Checked the online order tracking several times - no prices appeared. Phoned customer service and were told "Invoice will be in the box." The non-price-itemized invoice that arrived in the box showed a charge of $1695.99!!!! Called customer service and after a series of on-holds and voicemails, had a very unpleasant conversation with a customer service rep, who tried to tell us that we had agreed by phone to upgrade to the US version of the camera, instead of the Japanese version (not true, and none of which is mentioned in the camera product description on the web), and claimed that we had also agreed to purchase a separate 3-yr warranty (also not true) for $399. He refused to give us a return number unless we agreed to cover the 5% ($300) restocking charge (including 5% on $700+ of items we never ordered!). Hindsight being 20/20, we then researched the 4-piece accessory kit and found the 4 accessories that were quote at a $287 value, retail separately, and in numerous places for around $125-$140. The whole transaction is now in dispute through American Express...and we're hopeful that they will be able to mediate/negotiate a satisfactory return/refund where we could not. BUYERS BEWARE! It just goes to demonstrate that even SAVVY Internet buyers can be fooled and scammed occasionally."
"I followed the low price link from streetprice.com to a&m photo world. As usual, I placed order online and got confirmation. Hours later I got both phone call and email reminder that a guy called kevin (extension 751 wanted to verify a few things with me. During the call, this guy was trying to sell me some extremely highpriced accessaries. I refused and "Kevin" said the item I ordered was an IMPORTED model not USA model. He said in order to get the USA model, I have to pay $80 more. I said no and asked to cancel the order.
Then I put in A&M photo world in Google. The first search result is the complains on Resellerratings.com. It's very easy to find out that as early as in 2002, people have already found that this store is an evil place full of froud. I was just wondering what is the use of reporting to BBB. Is there anyone thinking of reporting to FBI or 60 minutes or New York Times? This company is not the only one. In the photo equilment field, there are quite a few store centered in New York City doing the same "bussiness". The stratege is to offer an very low price to attract people's attention. And then to rob them by selling high-priced accessaries. When you say no they will either cancel your order or tell you the item is out of stock. These people are real trash of our society. How come they can keep on cheating people for years? To keep internet commerce healthy, it is the time to clean house!"
"Cannon EOS Digital Rebel xt (EOS-350D) 8.0 Megapixel, SLR digital camera (silver). Ad states that it comes with free tripod, cleaning kit and LCD screen protector for $474.00.
Found on 1st page of Canon Digital cameras on Streetprices.
We found this listing on Streetprices.com and clicked on the ad and it took us to AMPhotoworld.com - we placed the order - received a confirmation back thanking us for the order. 2 hours later we received another e-mail asking us to call Customer Service to complete the order. We call Customer Service and they try to upsell - batteries, memory, etc. We decline their offer and ask just for what was advertised. They tell us it is not available and hang up on us. We call back - ask for a manager and Jim tells us that he is the manager. Jim tells us that our order has been cancelled and hangs up again. We then get an e-mail tell us our order has been cancelled. We call back again and he tells us to NEVER CALL BACK AGAIN and hangs up.
Terrible false advertising!! Street Prices should NOT allow this type of business on their website! STAY AWAY FROM A&M PHOTO WORLD!
What the ad doesn't tell you is that this camera doesn't come with ANYTHING. No battery, warranty, software, or cables. This is a Grey Market version not a US version of the camera. "
"Avoid this site like the plague. They tried to do the same thing to me that everyone else here is complaining about -- call to verify the order, try to get you to add overpriced acessories, sell you a non-US version, etc. I was interested in a Kodak DX6490 and their price was the lowest, so I placed the order; the next day, I got a phone call saying that the battery that came with it only lasted 15 minutes and that for $49.99 I could get a long-life battery. When I balked I was told that I had purchased the Japanese, rather than US, model. When you look at an item on the website, put "USA" in the search engine and you'll see the US model (believe me, you won't be happy with the price). For the DX6490, it was $439.99 instead of $269.99 (including Dock). I cannot emphasize enough how much of a scam this is -- STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. I'M HOPING THAT IF ENOUGH PEOPLE TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT THESE THIEVES THAT THEY'LL EVENTUALLY GO OUT OF BUSINESS."
"I didn't notice the review section of Froogle until after I dealt with this fraudulent company.
I ordered the Konica-Minolta Maxxum 7D. About an hour after placing the order a "representative" called to see if I had any questions. When I asked a couple about the camera he started trying to sell me things that should come standard with the camera. I told him I didn't want anything. He told me I had to or the camera was useless. I told him I wanted to cancel my order and he tried to talk me in circles and get me to pay 100 more for the same thing that I had already purchased.
I cancelled my order and I told him if I saw one thing charged to my card he would be having some legal problems. He asked if I was threatening him. I told him no as long as I don't get charged one penny.
I immeadiately cancelled my Card and now must go and get another one and I will not be able to access my money for at least 10 days, but at least they won't be able to access my money. "
