"I mostly agree with reviewer AppleShark - I have bought/sold over 120 times on eBay. 90% of that is purchases. I love eBay when buying stuff. I have been lucky so far on eBay when selling stuff. eBay and its subsidiary PayPal are as screwy with sellers as nearly everyone says. eBay does nothing for sellers. Buyers have it way better. When I buy something and there's a problem, I'm always able to resolve it, though I feel bad for sellers who sell low quality goods and have to deal with lots of returns. I guess they sell enough to make money. I do find I have a lot of problems with things I buy on eBay (1 in 5 or 10 things), but given what I pay, and that it's not hard to get a refund when the thing I buy doesn't work, I keep coming back. When I can get something for half or even 90% less than retail, it's hard to say no. I buy tons of stuff that's way way more expensive a retail, like cellphone headphones, chargers, LSD batteries, underwear, socks, car parts, computer parts and other small electronics - keys, HDs, RAM, flash, USB stuff, cables, etc.
When I sell something, PayPal often holds my money for no clear reason, even though I've been lucky enough (and careful enough) not to have to deal with any difficult buyers.
PS I noticed that fellow eBay reviewer AppleShark apparently runs AppleShark.com and participates here. Seems a good sign to me, so I'll be keeping them in mind if I wanna sell any of my Apple stuff.
They make it possible to sell excess stuff that I'd be pretty much unable to sell otherwise.
Their automation systems are very helpful at least 95% of the time. But that 5% when exceptions are needed or the automated systems just can't handle or are mis-programmed to handle, their human customer service is seriously sub-par, and their responsiveness to clearly identified bugs is seriously sub-par as well.
Overall, the cost of doing business is worth it. "
"Been used to using eBay for quite a long time, but I was put off by the cost of postage & packing which is charged separately for each package if from various places, it's search is good enough you can find, sometimes the prices are reasonable."
"I use eBay daily. I have 3 eBay accounts. We Sell about $500,000 a year between the 3 accounts. I also buy everything I need on eBay. I love eBay when buying stuff. I hate eBay when selling stuff. eBay does nothing for sellers. Buyers have it way better. We run a business and would love to sell more on eBay but cant afford to. If eBay was loyal to sellers we could be selling millions worth of product online but instead we have to sell lots locally and we use our own commerce store for new items we sell. Lets talk eBay fees. We get the 20% but thats great and all its still not enough. If we are doing over a half of million in sales we deserve more. Out fees are over $5,000 a month!! Thats bull. We can lease 5 retail buildings for that price. I am very unhappy how buyer have a huge advantage on cases and anything really. We sellers get nothing in return. If it wasent for us there would be no eBay. If eBay doesn't change there way sellers are eventually going to result to something else or someone will create a better eBay. "
"I have been both a buyer and a seller on ebay for over 10 years and I have found overall the company is great for unloading items and getting a good deal. Overall, I have had 98% positive experiences on ebay with only two issues in 10 years. The last issue was when I bought a smartphone from a seller and the phone could not be turned on and the seller would not take it back. I ended up filing a claim with ebay and they sided with me so the seller was forced to refund al of my money. Although I have stopped selling on eBay because the profit is not as good as it used to be, I still love to buy on ebay because I can still find real bargains on the website."
"eBay is a horrible horrible company. They treat sellers like garbage. I've spent so much time blogging about this I don't have the patience. They screw up promotions, Treat customers horribly and cater only to large businesses that resell through them.
Founded under the premise of selling pez dispensers, they are now just another horrible greedy corporation."
"eBay Buyer Protection is a joke. I just spent an hour on the phone with Diana from Utah (Desk # 5.2.280) who let me describe my problem blow-by-blow only to tell me that she couldn't do anything about it. When I asked her why she didn't just say so in the first place, just started reading off eBay policy - thanks, that's helpful.
She basically made a poor buying experience (horrendous seller) even worse due to inflexibility and rudeness. I'll never buy from eBay again."
"Ebay sellers have sabotaged the experience for me . There is no such thing as "trying to avoid " bad sellers. It is inevitable. It will just depend on how much patience you have before you quit like I did.
Stupid dishonest inaccurate grading is a big issue. Various ridiculous behaviour involving terms of sale etc. Retaliatory bad feedback from sellers was bad.
Ebay has about 1000 customer service reps who try to do their jobs, but there can be issues with them too."
"Well, I think this is the first time since 1999 that i am writing a rating here for Ebay. Currently they have charged me over $200 in listing fees on FREE LISTINGS Days. I have listed these same items on their fee listings for months...and now this glitch. Called, they could not find a reason why i have charged.
First, they claim there was not free listing on June 19, 2012, then asked me to prove it. I did, and they said because of my catergory, i asked them to check again. confirmed that was not the case. Then they said will credit me but went off for 15 or mins and said give them 2 days for their billing analysis to check and will email me then. If i like, i can call back...this is beyond ridiculous. My monthly bill the month before this was only $18. I might have to go to small claim court just for them to remove this...truly a sad site for once a great place .
provided case number from phone call"
"Ebay is completely against the seller on everything. There is absolutely NO seller protection. I sold a computer, which was insanely well packed. The buyer told me that the metal bent during shipping, and asked for $30 to "recoup his shipping charge". The guy just wanted to screw me over. Ebay then forced me to accept a full refund when I didn't accept the partial refund request. It's lubricious how the buyer can manipulate the seller however they please. I've been on ebay for a very long time, and I'm just about done with its garbage. "
"My experience of Ebay is that it is a renegade organisation;
Unacceptably biased towards duplicity, and speciousness.
And which manifests a mentality disturbingly characteristic of modern times; of the Church of Scientology. Where the world, and factual reality conforms to our viewpoint, and perception.
As famously revealed on BBC TV 'Horizon' investigative documentary programmes, of 2011. Presented by journalist John Sweeney.
It has clearly gotten too big for it's boots, and is acting as a law unto itself; as with big business with no regulator to curb impropriety, and prejudicial conduct, and practice.
It alleges to be bound by rules, and terms of participation governing conduct and behaviour.
Which are mere words on paper; or on a website page.
For example, illegal "shill" bidding; artificial bids to inflate the closing price of an item. When nothing is done in response to reported apparent such practice. Yet Ebay says on it's website pages that it takes a very serious view of such, and will take stringent action were such is reported.
Where an item was bid up to over £150 in the last hour before closing; and bids were being instantly shadowed, on an item which was available subsequently for as little as £20...
(Item No. 260946119509 North-Wales-Auction-Clearance. January 2012.)
And where a seller says will post an item for a charge; but then refuses contrary to the rules of participation; and cancels after I am the winning bidder on an item.
And who then re-enters the same item back into the auction, under a different item number.
(Item Nos: 180851093680; and 180860291080. March / April 2012.)
Caveat Emptor. Think twice before giving your support to such a rogue trader."
"I use ebay for small electronics and computer parts. I do not think it is practical for larger purchases.
From my experience and from my friends, ebay's item quality for most big ticket items is slightly below that of walmart.
But otherwise, ebay is a-ok in my book for smaller items"
"I don't understand why I was charged for 3 times of listing fees and final value fee just with only an item, which was then cancelled by the buyer. If I didn't check my invoice sent by eBay today, I wouldn't know about it. "
"cheap stuff, good prices.... dont plan on getting the best of the best hrere......
u get what you paid for. "
"hi therer......................"
"I love Ebay for such things like screen protectors for phones, accessories for cameras and other electronic things. Usually a long delivery time when you shop from Hong Kong, but you can't beat the prices."
