"I purchased an Apple laptop from this store for a Christmas present. It was larger than my wife wanted so I called on 12/28 to exchange it. The individual who answered said they don't take returns because they have no in-house techs to verify if the unit is returned intact. I told my wife she'd have to make do. Instead she offered to call; I said have at it. I must admit that I'm 65 years old and sound a little like a country hick - ok, a lot like a hick. She had to go to management but once there, she was able to reason with them. They were very helpful and exchanged the larger unit for what she wanted. They also credited our charge card for the difference. After a very frustrating first impression, the matter was resolved to our satisfaction."
"I had a very good experience with purchase of plasma TV from ecomelectronoics.
1) I got a call from ecomelectronics for verification. Since the purchase was over $2100, I don't see anthing wrong with verification.
2) The sales guy tried to sell extended warranty and other accessories. I somply said no. I don't see anything wrong. Even Best Buy and other stores keep pressing to buy extended warranty and accessories.
3) I read previous reviews that the extended warranty offered by ecomelectronics is not good. I have previous experience buying extended warranty from best buy and compusa but in both cases, I did not get any replacement because I did not read the clause in "fine print". Usually you don't get a replacement or repair when you need it. So, I won't consider extended warranty offered by ecomelectronics was worse than other stores.
4) Shipping: The TV was delivered in a Budget truck, within 7 days. Don't see any issue as long as TV was delivered on time and without any damage. Tracking information was provided and I could check status online. I had bought TV from Tigerdirect and they took 13 days to deliver. They used ABF truck company. My friend bought TV from best buy and it took 14 days to deliver. So, I don't see any issue with shiping.
Overall, it was a good experience."
"Horrible experience! They will call you and state information is required in order to complete the order. The purpose is for strong up sell. The day I received the laptop I turned it on and it took almost 2 whole minutes to boot. I logged on to the web and the browser froze. Only 14% of the HD was usable. Called then the next day to get a refund and the experience was horrible. They keep trying to get me to buy something else. I refused. They put me on hold and hung up on me. I called back the guy said it would take about 20 minutes to get return code and they would call me back, never did. When I called them back had to talk to a sales manager and finally got the code. I got the refund.... After they took out 27% for restocking fee! Never again. Horrible!
They obviously read these reviews. The day after I wrote it, a manager called me and wanted to "fix" the issue I had with the restocking fee. Why didn't they try to help me BEFORE It got to this. This is not the way a reputable company conducts business. I'm sure their intent was to "help" me so I would modify my post and say how great the company is like a couple of other posts. I have no doubt these individuals got the after post phone calls as well. Besides the $61 I'm out for restocking, another $15.75 was gone to ship it back with insurance and return receipt. I will never buy anything online again without checking them out first."
"I ordered a Samsung UN46B8000 TV from Ecom Electronics website and a message stated that I would promptly receive an e-mail confirming my order. I never received the e-mail and called their customer service the next day to find out what had happened. The customer service rep immediately started a hard sell of other items and extended warranties. I finally told the guy that I wasn't interested in his hard sell tactics and to cancel the order. I told him that I wanted an e-mail confirmation of the cancellation of the order. I waited for a while to see if the e-mail would come and was finally called by another customer service rep named Greg asking me to reconsider. He offered upgraded shipping and a free HDMI cable to get me to change my mind and I finally told him yes. I still have not received an e-mail confirmation so I sent an e-mail to their customer service and asked for a confirmation and some way of tracking the order. That was last night and still no response from their customer service. I am becoming very concerned about this order and have never experienced any thing like this from any other internet retailer. The jury is still out and I will respond again and let you know how this turns out."
"Yeah, thought I'd relay my experience. This retailer seems to get both good and bad reviews so the company is probably running the gamut on customer satisfaction. For me the experience was great. I ordered a refurbished laptop and it arrived the next day even though the shipping was 7-10 day ground. I'm in Maryland and the retailer is in New York. Not too far. Anyway the laptop is in fine shape. Before the order was shipped I DID get someone from the company calling me from with a sales pitch to get me to upgrade to this and that or the other thing...or to get a warranty. Patiently and politely decline all offers if that is what you want to do. Then hopefully what you ordered will arrive without incident.
"
"Great customer service, item was not working properly and the customer service rep went to work to help me. Got another netbook within a weeks time. All I can say is thank you in this day and age there are not very many stores who take care of the customer like you did! I will be back!"
"Should have heeded the warnings based on some of the reviews. Had ordered a Omni Mount plasma tv it arrived quickly, which was great, but the product that arrived was not so great. The omni mount box was inside a generic brown box. The brown box was in great shape, but the omni mount box was taped up to no end! I took pictures of course.
Upon opening, there are scratches and dent and even chipped edges on metal pieces!. For metal to chip, imagine the force that this endured.
Unfortunately, today is friday and they've closed. I did send them an email immediately so we'll see how they respond.
But based on what I just experienced, it seems as though this company does the switch on you and can not be trusted.
I'm about to call my credit card company to do a with hold on this until I can get this resolved
oh by the way, the only reason I bought this here was because it was the cheapest. Just goes to show, you get what you pay for
[EDIT] Since writing this review. They actually have been quite good at responding. They had said due to the fact that I reported it on a friday afternoon, it didn't get to anyone quickly since they were busy. In anycase, by Monday morning I got a generic email telling me to call them. I did, the rep told me that they did not ship me the package and it was a drop shipment. So with that, he immediately called the manufacturer and by afternoon, I got a confirmation that my new replacement was on its way. They had also taken care to send me the return UPS label. So all in all, after a scare, they turned out to be good"
"Ordered a Denon AVR online. Got an email next day requesting to call them. Got a live person in 2 seconds, put on hold for about 2 minutes. After verifying my shipping address, Scott, the salesman started to sell me HDMI cable, extended warranty and surge protector. He was persistent but polite. I expected that because how do you expect them to make money by deeply discounting the product. I declined all the offers and my unit was shipped the following day. Btw, I was also offered to pay for a faster shipping. I also declined. On the website, it said if I paid by Paypal, I would get an automatic upgrade of shipping to the next higher level. I have not received the unit yet. I doubt I got the upgrade. I received the unit in excellent shape. I have no complaints about this company."
"First - the number above is the ORDER #, not the INVOICE #. This is because I was lucky enough to have my PayPal not go through on the first try, and I was able to stop these THIEVES.
Right off the bat, they add 6% "handling" to he order. I looked, and looked - I'll be damned if I could find any mention of this on the website. Typical rip-off B.S.
Next, I received a call fom the salesman who was arrogant, short, and pushy. He kept trying to get me to buy other stuff I didn't want (at a much better price).
Stay away from these jerks at all costs!
It isn't worth the hassle.

"Think twice before dealing with this company. I should have gone with my instinct and canceled this order when I could. First, I ordered a ThinkPad from ecom and the specs on the site didn't match the specs on the laptop. Second, the packaging looked liked it was a return or refurbish. After I was repeatedly told the product is brand new, never opened. Third, my order was placed on May 18 and wasn't shipped out until 10 days later. The delay was to confirm my credit card number, when actually it was to try to up sale me. Yes, they wouldn't ship it out until a salesman called and tried to sell me everything under the sun. I actually emailed them before the shipment, but to this day never got a response.
(UPDATE 6/19/09) I was contacted by a Customer Service Mgr to resolve the numerous issues I had with my ThinkPad Order. First things first, the laptop I ordered was the correct model that I selected. I was informed the box had to be opened in order to place the upgrades I was sold. I relayed my concerns about the delayed shipping and the overly aggressive after sale pitch. The Mgr credited $100 to my credit card immediately and gave me a $100 store credit. I placed a second order (under $100) to see if a better job would be done. My order was turned around quickly and my emails responded to in a very timely manner. BOTTOM LINE: I believe you can find a good deal at eCOM. I also believe that they recoup some of their margin by selling additional add-ons which are not necessarily at a low price. I would buy from eCOM but be prepared for the sales call (if purchasing a large ticket item)and make sure any add-ons are also competitively priced. "
"regarding ecomelectronics: I will be adding to this review, however; after making an inquiry into the specs listed on a G50Xt-x5 i was first told the specs on their page for this item was correct and verified. However, the folloing day 15 may 2009 they had revised the site specs for this item. I purchased the item on 14th of may. i am waiting to see if they will be dealing with me in a fair and easy manor to resolve this otherwise i wlll be cancelling the order. overall so far dispite the error on their site they have been good to deal with but time will tell.
Note: follow-up 05-22-09. I must say my experience with ecomelectronics was excilent. There was a mix up on specs regarding the laptop i was buying this made me nervious. however; they went the 'extra mile' leaving me very pleased with my purchase. The laptop was as discribed (after site update on the specs) it was in new condition for a refurbished computer. There customer service was A+ quality as was the overall purchase experience. "
"EcomElectronics went above and beyond when it comes to customer service. Their guy Alan was amazing in his responsiveness and understanding. It's hard sometimes to figure out if those cheap prices listed on the internet means a company is not on the up and up...order from EcomElectronics and you will not be sorry you did. I am thrilled with my new Canon camera and the price was fantastic. Way to go Ecom!"
"These guys tried to scam me the entire time I worked with them. I eventually had to put a stop order on my credit card and change my card number because they sent me a fake Return Merchandise Authorization form.
They try to reel you in with sweet deals that sound too good to be true and then with the upgrades. And then when I said I wanted to think about it, they lied and said they only had one MacBook Pro left in stock (that's what I was buying.. I called back the next morning and asked another guy who worked there if they had Macbook Pro's in stock and he said yes). They lie straight to your face the entire time you deal with them. Honestly, I've never seen anything like it.
STAY AWAY! Horrible experience. And they forge reviews, most of the positive reviews on this site are B.S."
"I'm very happy with the service and the products that I purchased from this seller. Yes, they did try to tack on quite a few extras, but I understand that the people that answer the phones get most of their commission from these add ons. I can understand it.
I purchased a 52" XBR6, and really love it. After refusing most of the extras, i.e. Extended Warranty, expidited shipping, wall mount kit, etc. I finally gave in on an HDMI 1.3b, 6 ft cable. The salesman included threshold delivery in the deal when I ok'd the cable purchase (the price of which dropped several times during the ordering process). This was all BEFORE all of the fake approval e-mails were deleted from this site! After reading that, I was starting to worry. It turned out that I was worrying needlessly. The order arrived in perfect shape in exactly 5 days! Several e-mails were sent to me that allowed me to track my shipment every step of the way. The cable was correct and the TV works great. I couldn't be happier with this company. They did exactly what they said they'd do, and the price was very good. I would use them again."
"I made a purchase from this company because I saw impeccable ratings on resellerratings, pricegrabber, and nextag.com. However, what I failed to see was that every single rating (all positive, by the way) were from users with 0 history of writing reviews. All the other reviews which were actually legitimate from tenured reviewers were negative and described a similar experience. There is not a single legitimate-looking positive review that is anymore than 2 sentences. When was the last time you saw that for a reputable company?
So after I placed an order (a TV by the way), i get a call from the company to confirm the security code on my credit card and then for the next half hour I speak to a representative trying to sell me any possible extra item under the sun.
First was the HDMI cable. When I told them I had one, they tried to get me to believe that mine was old and junky and I should buy theirs.
Next was the mount. They wanted to know if I was going to be mounting this to a wall and if I wanted a mount. I said no.
Next was the battery backup. Battery backup? For a TV? I told them I had a battery backup, but they tried to sell me on a higher "joule" unit.
Next was the shipping. Apparently the free shipping is commercial shipping and not "residential" and I should pay $75 for the residential shipping. I said no thanks, I was in no rush to get the tv.
Next was the warranty. They tried to sell me a $200 4-year warranty...I'll get to this in a little bit.
After I rejected everything they tried selling me on a $200 package deal for everything. After I said no to that they tried cheaper packages with items removed. $150 for everything without the HDMI cable. $100 for the shipping and the HDMI cable. $50 for just the shipping. I said no to everything.
After all this I asked how they would be shipping this item, and they said they use a private trucking company. In plain English: we are using a delivery company that provides no shipping or tracking information, it will just show up at your door whenever. No UPS, no Fed-Ex, no DHL and no USPS. Just some trucking company.
My order was then finalized and within 15 minutes it was listed as being at the warehouse for packaging and shipping.
Then I dug around. The thing that really got me was their return policy. If you go over to quality sites they say you can return any product within 30 days of purchase. EcomElectronics, on the other hand, says that you can not return any TV product after you sign for it, even if its damaged. In big letters it says to check the package for damage because signing for the product means you are accepting it AS IS! And this is where my little discussion about warranty comes in. On that same page it says damage, at that point, is covered only by the manufacturer's warranty. Meaning even the worst of damage is not covered by EcomElectronics, even if it is theirs or the shipping's fault. So lets assume you get the tv with a big crack, well, you need to pay big bucks to ship the tv to the manufacturer to get it fixed because you can't return the TV to EcomElectronics. Even stores like CircuitCity allow returns.
Now when I asked them about their $200 warranty, I asked if I could purchase the warranty at a later time, to which they responded that I couldn't and it could only be purchased at the time of the tv purchase. So basically this warranty they offer is NOT through the manufacturer, it is warranty through EcomElectronics because as far as I am aware you can purchase extended manufacturer's warranty at any time you want. So if Ecom goes out of business then you wasted $200 (it happened with my sister and CompUSA).
So I eventually got sick to the stomach from all this and canceled the order, to which they wanted to know why. I gave them my reason but they were trying their best to keep the purchase, trying to defend their side, offering a coupon. Seriously, when was the last time a quality company questioned you about a cancellation. Quality companies usually operate with no questions asked.
Everything is very sketchy with this company and placing an order with them made me sick to my stomach. The minimal savings in price by ordering from this company probably is not worth the concerns.
Hey, they might be the most reputable company in the world. The TV might have shipped perfectly fine, no returns necessary. But I just was not getting that vibe after reading countless forum posts and seeing countless illegitimate reviews obviously posted by the company after I made my purchase. Cancelling made me feel like a million bucks."
