"I finally decided to just go with Etronics since I have made prior purchases with them and everything went smoothly. I like the fact that if I choose, I don't have to talk to a pushy salesperson. I suppose if you wanted to double check whether it is in stock you may want to talk to someone, but from many posts on this site, it is just as random whether or not you get the truth from a person as it is on whether their website is truthful. I have gone into local merchandise stores and have been told that the "computer" says we have it but know one can seem to find it. The only benefit there is I find that out before it hits my credit card.
They didn't have the best price, but my experience has been that they have more integrity than most of the other businesses that post lower prices. I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 4500 yesterday and I received an email today with a valid UPS tracking number showing that it had already been shipped. I don't have an urgent need for the camera so I just went with the cheapest shipping which means 5-7 days. The shipping number was a suprise since I was expected that it would be shipped on Monday at the earliest.
I considered purchasing from Dbuys since their ratings on this site are higher and for awhile they had a lower price, but they have since raised their price above Etronics and they make no mention of the current rebate that Nikon is offering on this camera. This made me very wary of whether it would come in the proper packaging that would allow me to submit the rebate which is $50. I am assuming that the Etronics packing will be OK since they advertise the rebate on their site with the camera. I will soon find out. I will update my experience when I finally receive the product."

I saved a grip, although they are not an authorized dealer you can get around this buy buying an extended warranty from there third party.
Use your own judgement, in my instance this was a great experience so far and the prices are unbeatable.

"although some people may have had good purchase experiences with this company, they will eventually change your opinion over time as you make repeat purchases. in my case, it was the second time i bought from them.
the first time i ordered from them it was a nikon coolpix 885 digital camera and everything was fine. a few months later, i was looking for cartridges (ortofon silver cc-pro)for a record player and studio headphones (sony mdr700dj). the headphones were good and price was fine. the cartridges on the other hand was where i experienced the headache.
in their site, they had a picture posted that displayed 2 cartridges and the price for one. i was skeptical, so i called them asking about the product and the representative couldn't give me ANY INFORMATION ABOUT IT IF HIS LIFE DEPENDED ON IT, and he made no efforts to offer to find out and contact me about it.
i figured i would take my chances, so i went ahead and placed an order. i had a strong feeling that it was an error and read EVERYTHING they had in their site about site errors, so i sent an e-mail being very specific about the picture and whether or not it represented what will be shipped to me ... no response. i looked at the site a few days later to find that the same picture was ADJUSTED and one of the cartridges was 'erased' from the picture only b/c the 'cleaning up' was obviously lousy that a blind donkey would notice.
i called the office THREE times and was put on hold for about 20 minutes and finally gave up, so i sent another e-mail asking what the deal was about the picture.
the response was along the line of, 'we did not adjust the picture - it was the vendor and our sales department knew nothing of it. it's a new product, so they couldn't tell you'
THEN my package came in with an INCOMPLETE ORDER in which the cartridge was not included and the invoice stated 'your order was shipped partially ... the remainder of your order will be sent shortly'
after aabout 4 days after the 1st box arrived, the 2nd order confirmed, and when i got that, there was only ONE cartridge.
i sent an e-mail asking for another one and i didn't mind paying for it only if the shipping was waived since i originally wanted 2 as was shown in the picture, but the rep didn't make any efforts to meet my request and only offered to upgrade the shipping for a lower grade shipping cost.
all in all, they are SLOW and their customer service ranks among cow stools in the meadow. their site boasts that their sales reps are well-trained and knowledgeable about the products ... that statement is a bunch of dung, too. if they had been honest and simply said that they made an error, things may have been fine and i would have understood.
i would never order from them again and would not recommend them to anyone. good luck if you do decide to buy from them."
"The customer service is too difficult to find. You must dial a separate number to reach customer support. This number is not listed on the website (why?). This means you must dial TWO numbers to reach customer service if you need help for the first time. In addition the phone wait time is excessive (20 minutes). However to place an order by phone the response is immediate. I think the importance of customer support to etronics is very low when compared to getting your money."
"Ordered a Yamaha RX-V800 receiver and called to confirm it was a new, non-refurbished and US model, they said "all those things are correct." To their benefit they did ship out quickly and a new receiver, it was however an International aka Grey Model. I sent it back for an exchange for a Pioneer, I called Pioneer to see if they were an authorized dealer. Pioneer told me they were but since the beginning of August Etronics has since gone out of business. I cancelled the order and finally received a refund back to my charge card after a runaround for 3 weeks. They did not credit S&H back so I'll have to eat that even though the were deceptive during the order. Don't order Yahama from these guys unless you want an inferior Overseas model. "

I placed an order for something and then called to see what the status was. They told me it was shipped even though website said something else. I dont want to bore you with details but I didnt get the item till 4 weeks later. (This doesnt include the first week of waitng for it.) By the time I got it the price had been reduced at other stores, including theirs. I asked them to credit the difference since it was there fault and they refused.
My recommendatin is to use J&R at jandr.com. They will price match these guys and ship to you quickly."
"Avoid this company if you want to get something soon. I ordered 2 items, both listed as in stock. Neither was in stock. Only after I called 3 days later did I find this out. I finally received one of the items 1.5 weeks later. The other item never came and I canceled the order. All this time their website still said the items were in stock. I pointed this out several times to them yet no action. The website is a fantasy world. Call to get the real story before ordering. If it is out of stock go elsewhere as you may never get you order.
Update 9/11/02. Despite cancelling the order I recieved a notification of shipment today. I called and they said the credited me for the shipping but never cancelled the order???? What gives. They told me to refuse the order and they will credit me when it returns to them. Like I'm supposed to believe anything they say. These people are professional liars. I tried to speak with a supervisor. They were"too busy becasue the website is having problems". So much care for the customer. By the way way the website through all of this says the item is in stock B.S. Never again. "

"Great company, super prices. I ordered a set of JBL speakers from Etronics and promptly received them just as promised - no problems. They were the only online reseller that had the model of speaker I wanted in Cherry woodgrain. I called in my order and made sure they were in stock.
They have a great website and I was able to track my shipment across the country right from their site. On top of the good service, they had the lowest price online. For two pairs of bookshelf speakers shipping only cost $30. Ok, I only ordered one time so far but my experience was very positive. I'll order from them again.

"Despite their competitive prices, don't buy from these people unless you like being ignored, lied to, and forgotten. Here's what happened to me:
22 March 2002: I ordered a Canon WD-58 0.7x Wide-Converter 58mm, a Lenmar NoMEM Li-Ion Camcorder Battery Canon BP-941, and a Lenmar Mach-1 MSC-1 Speed Charger.
24 March: Received confirmation email saying order was authorized and verified.
29 March: I sent email inquiring about my order, which I hadn't yet received.
30 March: I received the battery and the battery charger, but not the wide-angle lens. Web site shows order was "shipping dept."
6 April: I sent a second email asking about the status of my order, having received no answer to the first one.
8 April: Etronics sent an email telling me that on March 26, my order was shipped from their secondary warehouse in Arizona.
12 April: I sent another email saying that I still haven't received the wide-angle lens and asking the status. I received no reply. I tried calling, but they have weird customer service hours and were closed.
20 April: I sent a fourth email asking the status of the missing lens. I asked someone to call me with information, since email didn't seem to be very high priority with their firm.
21 April: No one called, but they did send an email (see below) saying the lens has been backordered, and apologizing for the "brief delay."
24 May: Sent fifth email, because I had neither heard from Etronics since 21 April nor received the lens. (I'd say one month is a bit more than a "brief delay.") I again asked them to call.
29 May: I tried calling their customer service lines, but gave up after 40 minutes on hold.
31 May: I finally managed to talk to a real live person by calling their customer service line. The woman I spoke to said the missing lens was in stock and that it would go out that day.
31 May: I receive an automated email notice that the product had shipped.
7 June: I finally receive the lens. Gee, and it only took 2-1/2 months and numerous emails and phone calls to pry it out of them.
When I talked to the lady in customer service, I told her about my previous experiences, and she said "sorry, those things happen sometimes." Indeed, and sometimes customers never come back, and tell others to avoid the reseller like the plague.
