"I've made several purchases from expansys-usa.com, now mobileplanet.com. They tend to have the lowest price or near it, and I've never had to worry about dealing with shady fly-by-night operations.
Comments about inventory level mentioned in other comments are somewhat accurate, however. They list their expected date for receiving new shipments when their stock is empty, which may or may not be a good estimate. Moreover, they have warehouses in many countries, some of which take longer to transfer items than their web site estimates. For example, I'm currently waiting on a phone from the French warehouse which has an estimated wate of three days on the web site, but in talking with them on the phone, they said it usually takes a week. I previously ordered something that had to come from the UK warehouse which was transferred much more quickly, although was delayed because they wanted to ensure that I knew it would not work in the U.S. (the delay was a bit annoying, but understandable). On the subject of phone assistance, I've found them to be quite responsive with relatively shorter wait times than I've grown accustomed to (usually only a few minutes from dialing to reaching somebody). The people on the other end themselves tend to be quite amicable.
The company seems to be quite open with general problems in merchandise and delays, posting updates in the site's forums section when issues arise. They generally make it clear where a product is originally from, although given the markets, I tend to assume most phones are an EU or UK version unless otherwise noted given the fact that they aren't usually released here."
"Advertised a product at a really low price, and even after I called to confirm they accepted my order. Only after a month do they now state that the item will cost twice as much and they wonder if I want to still buy it.
VERY poor communication, nobody ever gets back to you. Would not recommend this store."
" I ordered a 3-pack of stylus for my HP Jornada 720 handheld computer from Mobile Planet (also known as eXpansys.com) to use as spares in case I lost my original. When they arrived the problem was immediately apparent.
The styli I received were over an inch shorter than my original stylus , and too small in diameter to fit in the stylus bay of my Jornada without falling out. My original stylus has a pocket clip that served to lock the stylus to the computer, but the Mobile Planet styli had simple nubs instead of a clip and were completely non-functional either as a pocket clip or to lock the stylus in the stylus bay on the computer. In fact, comparing the styli I received to the pictures on Mobile Planet’s webpage, they were completely different. And yet the sticker on the simple plastic bag the styli were packaged in read “eXpansys Jornada 720 Stylus Pack’.
So I got an RMA# from Mobile Planet and returned the styli for a refund. Since the problem was all theirs either in mislabeling or misrepresenting their product, I requested a refund of my return shipping as well. After waiting 30 days for them to “inspect” my return I received a refund for the original order amount, but not my return shipping. Looks like I’ll have to contact my credit card company and see if I can start a dispute. Luckily I did screen captures of Mobile Planet’s webpage showing the styli I ordered, and took some digital pictures of what I received, hopefully these will expedite getting a refund."
"DO NOT BUY FROM EXPANSYS, or if you do, call them first and thoroughly make sure they're sending what they advertise. I bought a Motorola H700 bluetooth headset, which came as the UK version. Their US website said NOTHING about selling a grey market item into the US. I asked for a refund, and not only did I have to pay return shipping charges, they did not refund the original shipping charges to me either. So I lost $10-12 just by ordering from them. If they had said this was a grey market item on their website, I would not have ordered from them. I think they know this so they do not advertise it and choose to continue to mislead their customers. "
"I have recently purchased a Jabra JX10 bluetooth headset from Expansys.com. Although the item came with a manufacturer defect Expansys was very helpful and fast in responding and issuing RMA return number. It's understandable they cannot open every outgoing package and check for such defects. In any case I have placed another order for this great headset on Expansys.com.
As they received my RMA'ed package on next day they issued a refund to my credit card for the first order although on their site it says it can take up to 30 days.
Bottom line
-Great service
-Fast response
-Fast shipping time
-Good prices
-will buy from them again"
"I ordered a nokia bluetooth wireless headset for my mobile. I received what I ordered within 7 days. I am happy with my purchase. I was hesitant on ordering from this company because of comments I read but I gave them a chance and I was not disappointed. "
"I placed an order through this reseller over 45 days ago. My order has NOT been shipped yet, and I have not received any notification regarding my order. I have sent several emails to this company requesting information on the status of my order, and they have not replied. I still do not know where the product I ordered is. I am VERY dissatisfied with this company, and at this time, I will never do business with them again.
Update:
After multiple emails, I have finally been able to get through to someone in Expansys' customer service department. They informed me that it would be AT MINIMUM 2 additional weeks before my item would even ship, bringing my order-to-ship time to over two months. The customer service agent was very short in his emails, and in no way attempted to explain the delay, nor did he even offer an apology for the inconvenience. Overall, my disappointment with this company and their customer service has lead me to cancel my order, and I will look for another reseller for the product that I need."
"I ordered a Palm OS Upgrade CD. The first shipment I received was the correct CD case with the wrong CD inside (the CD has been discontinued by Palm so I'm not terribly surprised that some of the CDs available are incorrect). I alerted expansys to the problem and they shipped a (correct) replacement second day air."
"I ordered the bluetooth GPS like several people below. I think Expansys was prompt about replacing the wrong model with the right model, offered a fair price for the replacement, and followed up very well in replacing the GPS with shipping at their expense and making sure we were only charged the correct amount. I am satisfied with my purchase and would buy from them again."
"I purchased Socket Bluetooth GPS receiver and was sent an inferior model and not the one that I ordered. When I called about the problem, they just offered a refund.
UPDATE: Initially they just offered a refund and no apology. After pressure from several customers, they agreed to send the better model by paying an extra $34 (which apparently was a substantially reduced price). They also paid shipping on the new model and return shipping of the old one.
They apologized for an honest mistake and made amends. The initial response was unsatisfactory and the subsequent one much better. I do wonder if they would have fixed things without the pressure that several customers brought to bear on management. Customer service agents who receive calls needs to be more customer-focused."
"I ordered the OEM Socket bluetooth gps just like the person below. Many people ordered one item and Expansys switched the model with a lower model of lower Sat. tracking ability.
UPDATE: Apparently it was an honest mistake. Expansys is paying for return shipping and refunding the full amount. They apologized to the issue and offered the aforementioned 16-sat model for a roughly $35 more than the original price.
Nice service. I am satisfied. "
"Ordered an OEM Socket bluetooth gps. Received the shipment notification within 4 hours of the order confirmation. They shipped a lesser GPS than had listed (shipped 12 satellite model vs 16 satellite model listed).
Edit: They have since shipped the correct gps receiver with a UPS return label for the old one at an added cost of $34. Not too bad for a gps which has an MSRP that is much higher."
"Order was placed on Jan 17. I chose expansys because they were the only retailers with a certain pocket pc.
I was extremely inconvenienced because they required me to fax a copy of my credit card(front and back) AND credit card statement. I would never purchase from them again after going through that hassle. Be forewarned on large purchases from expansys; they hassle you to fax credit info.
Also do not trust there inventory levels listed on the site. A product which said was 2-3 days has yet to arrive, its Feb 10(thats about 25 days). I made a call to them yesterday, they said they were expecting them from European warehouse any day now; today i received a tracking number(which as of this review is still not in the system). Fortunately my major purchase arrived within 8 days. For some reason i think this disorganized, poorly run company wasn't having inventory issues, my items still awaiting shipment had slipped through the cracks.
Also, I paid 50 bucks for next day shipping becuase i was unaware they were located in Indiana, in which case Ground shipping results in the same shipping time at 10% of the cost since I live in Ohio.
I have seen other poor reviews for this company elsewhere; so be forewarned, find a different reseller if possible."
"Ordered a minolta dimage xg camera on Jan.2nd, they had a problem with the address and emailed to let us know, after that was cleared up we recieved another email saying their office in the u.s did not have the product. So, it was sent from the UK. It finally arrived to the U.S office today (Jan.27). However, the times I did contact customer service they were pleasant and informative, they also adjusted to price of my camera, as it had fallen since I first placed my order. Overrall, I am satisfied with the price, and customer service I received. But I have to say I'm a little dissappointed that it took almost a month to receive my camera."
"I ordered a Samsonite suitcase from them on May 27th, 2004. While I was entering information into the order form, I accidently pressed enter, which submitted the order. I didn't know what information I left out; the system allowed the order to process, though. At this point I was very worried.
I emailed them at ****@**** , which is listed on their site, detailing my problem. I didn't get a reply by the next week, the 31st, so I called them. I called during their business hours, but I was directed by the automated message to send an email, but this time to a different email address, which I never saw on the site.
On the 2nd, I got a reply back, and he said that the only part I left out was my email address. Usually, at other sites, this is a required field.
My order was processed, though. When I placed the order, it was backordered for 10 days. When my shipment confirmation was sent through email, it was already the 17th. That's much more than 10 days.
But note that I DID get a confirmation, which was good. The packaging was fine.
Overall, I would like to see a better ordering system, along with better contact information. "
