"I per-ordered Nikon D800 in early March, I knew that is going to wait for a while. but not three whole month and billed me. most of the company have been ship out per-order during the May. but i have been charged $3000 for 3 months. nothing shipped. So i cancelled the order the end of June and able to buy the same camera from other online stop within 1 day. later I found out ABE of Maine never sold and stop selling Nikon D800 now. They waste my time and hope for 3 months. I will never shop there again."
"I am writing this to revise an earlier review of Abe's. I had a horrible experience with the delivery company. However, I called Abe's and reached a manager, Jason. He was awesome. He got on the phone with the shipper, arranged for a special delivery for me (so I didn't have to take more time off from work), and credited the additional shipping charge.
WOW! Nice to know that if there is an issue they will take care of their customers that way."
"This review was written by another customer and it was exactly the same thing that happened to me with a different product and date. Pretty sad when one can cut and paste bad reviews because the exact same thing happens to you. Buyer beware--this is a lousy company with poor inventory, poor customer service and poor follow through!!
"Their website said the Canon Camera I wanted was "In Stock", so I placed the order on 8/26 that I needed 10 days later. It apparently was not in stock, as my account was showing 'In Warehouse' for over 13 days afterward. They never bothered to let me know the camera was unavailable, BUT my credit card was debited when I placed the order(8/28) for the entire amount, even though they did not have it in stock. This is a very poor business practice; most do not debit the account until the item has shipped. I sent several emails requesting an update on my order (WHEN WILL IT SHIP?), with no response - another poor business practice. Finally, after 13 days of waiting, I was able to talk to a real person (be prepared to get transferred twice and wait 30 minutes on the phone to cancel an order) and was able to cancel the order, (I hope!), although my credit card account has yet to show the credit for the cancelled amount, so I have disputed the charge with my credit card company. Do NOT give your business to these people. "
"Do not place an order with abe's of maine they are rip off artist!!!! I purchased a laptop from them 2 weeks ago for $800 & it was completely fried doesn't even turn on & guess what they won't return my phone calls/emails or i sit on hold for hours! They said they would send me a return lable & they never did this has been going on for over 2 weeks!! Don't risk your $$$ with this horrible company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Their website said the Plasma TV I wanted was "In Stock", so I placed the order on 8/20. It apparently was not, as my account was showing 'In Warehouse' for over a week and a half afterward. They never bothered to let me know the TV was unavailable, BUT my credit card was debited the very day I placed the order(8/20) for the entire amount, even though they did not have it in stock. This is a very poor business practice; most do not debit the account until the item has shipped. Do NOT give your business to these people. Fooled my once, shame on YOU...fooled me twice, shame on ME!
09/04/2012 follow-up; I just got a call from 'David' from Abe's of Maine - same guy who called me after I placed the order hard-selling shipping upgrade, cables, extended warranty, etc. I was very busy when he called and told him so at the onset. He then said that he had noticed that I had cancelled the order and wanted to know why. I proceeded to tell him that had he read the review, he would know WHY and that I had no more time for him. I said goodbye and hung up. These guys are crooks, and I do not talk, or do business with crooks! Darn shame I can't rate them with ZERO stars! Get it, Dave???
09.04.12 - (afternoon) update - based on AOM's last comment, not only are they crooks, they are also LIARS! I will no longer respond to any more of their rebuttals; they are not worthy of my time and effort. I, and you, should not waste your time dealing with these CROOKS and LIARS!"
"Ordered aa 55 inch tv Sunday. Monday aa message was left on my voicemail. Thinking that there was an issue with my order, II called back. The representative needed to "check" my order, which consisted of attempting to sell me everything under the sun. Finally he said that if II didn't upgrade the delivery it would take 3 weeks to get my tv, so II ended up paying an additional $100.
The Tv still didn't even shop until Wednesday.
II have never had to go through BS like that when placing an online order, and II buy everything online.
Don't let the price fool you, it won't be what you end up paying and you'll have to run aa telephone "sales gauntlet" before your order is fulfilled.
Btw, II have aa house in Maine. These guys are in New Jersey, and they have aa hard edge. The store's name should be "Tony's ofNewark".
Finally, the order was placed 8/26, but the shipping email has an order date of 8/29. BS.

"12/12 update. After I posted my detail review below I was contacted by a representative who states he would research what went wrong and would make me whole by sending the correct filter. That was several months ago. I have not heard from them nor received the filter. I am only updating because I was writing a positive review for new camera gears I ordered from Adorama. I have moved on. If you are reading this review and other similar negative review you should wonder and make your own opinion and decision.
I've been buying products from Abes's of Maine off and on the past three years. I have spent a little bit over $4,000 with them, including Canon 7D order with flash and accessories that's not showing up under my account profile. The $4,000 is roughly 20% of my Camera budget over the three years.
I shop primarily with B&H, Adorama, Cameta, and Abe's of Maine. Lately I've been looking at Amazon as places for future orders. Who I choose to purchase from is mainly how I feel that day but my expectations are quick and accurate shipment of what I ordered. I have never had any real issues with any of my previous orders with Abes with the exception of two cases. I will start with this one. I ordered a Canon 135mm F2.0 Lens from them because they had a special with the lens:
Special Offer: FREE Hoya 72mm Super HMC Multi Coated Glass UV FilterFree Item: HOHMCUV72(QTY 1)
I also purchased the camera bag at the same time.
What was strange about my order was I didn't get a shipment notice from Abes but instead I got an email for me to call them. I replied to the email stating that I just wanted my order shipped and if they don't have the product on hand cancel my order so I can order the product from somewhere else. A day or so goes by no reply so I contacted customer service about my order then a day later, I believe the 3rd business day after I placed the order I got a notification the order was shipped. When I got my shipment I didn't get the Hoya filter as advertised and what I perceived and expected to be receiving when I placed the order. Frankly the Hoya filter deal was what made me decided to order from them vice B&H and added b+w filter for the lens that day. I wasn't informed of the bait and switch deal and had not authorized the change. I am not happy about it. I think the email for me to call them is so they can switch the deal to their brand - Nikura filter. Why do I think that? Well -- let's go back to one of my previous orders a couple years back. I ordered a Canon 100 f2.8L Macro and Nikon polarizing filter from them back around when the lens was released and got a phone call from an Abe's representative telling me I don't want the Nikon filter but instead a filter package deal with all kinds of filters, including a polarizer filter for much cheaper. I politely declined but the sales rep was quite pushy. Words to Abe's of Maine. I don't know how much you really saved by switching from the Hoya filter to the Nikura but if I were to guess it would be $10-$20 at most. However because your antics you have lost a customer who you may say -- he only spent $4,000 but let's say over the course of my lifetime I spent $30,000 and your profit margin is 30% - You lost out on $9,000 over a $10-$20 saving by your switch. Business is competitive and all want to increase profit margin by reducing cost or sell more products with higher profit margin but don't do it at the detriment of losing customers since you have to work harder to earn new customers. I'm also removing myself from your email promotions. Thank you."
"I have ordered Camcorder Sony on Abe’s of Maine, but manufacturer does not send the goods to Russia.
Management Abe’s of Maine gave me apologies for it.
I have received the refund for the order very quickly.
Many thanks David Mosseri for His help.
"
“I have read and researched your allegations and I have found out that you had placed your order from Russia and we do not ship to Russia this Item.
You had placed your order June 27th and order had been cancelled a couple of days later.
No money has been taken out of your account as per your review.
Feel free contact me showing me otherwise

"I am highly disappointed in Abe's of Maine. I bought a Plantronics Discovery 975 from them or so I thought. I've never used them before and I can say I will not be using them again. I placed my online order with a unit price of 39.00 what I thought was a great deal. Turns out it was to good to be true. My order was cancelled and I was told that they didn't know when they would be getting any more in. I go back to the site and the item is still showing available however the price has jumped 63.36. If they would have sent a message saying we are sorry the price was mislabeled I would have been upset but it happens but to call and be told that my order has been cancelled by one person and then be told if I would like I could place another order for the same item at the higher price they would be glad to help me I find it to be in very poor taste. "
"I ordered a TV from them on August 21st. They called me later on in the day to confirm and tried to sell me every possible option. When I refused the sales rep got mad and said he would call back the next day. When he called back he pretended like it was the first time we spoke. He again was rude and told me it was an additional 99.00 to open my tv and inspect it . I informed him that I didn't need any setup. All I wanted was the box dropped off in my garage and he said that was an additional charge. Never again!!"
"HORRIBLE. Everyone I have spoken with sounds entirely un-professional. States on order confirmation that Credit Card will not be charged until order is verified and processed. Ordered a 600$ Laptop Thursday evening. Order verification was called in to girlfriend once friday, i was called, she called back and verified again. Card was charged. I called Monday for status update. Talked to someone who was like " hi what do you want... " Called another extension who informed me that the order was cancelled friday and said the bank denied shipping to my address... Even tho the payment went through fine and they took the money. Was told that the refund would be issued today... 4 days after the order had been cancelled and we were never informed of this... This company is a joke and doesnt even deserve to be called a business."
"I ordered an 80" Sharp HDTV for $3949.18 from Abes of Maine. Fred convinced me that I needed to add another $149.99 for "white glove delivery" instead of the free delivery. He stated that the service included;
FALSE GUARANTEE BY ABES OF MAINE #1: Two man crew as the TV's size and weight was substantial.
TRUTH: One pleasant elderly gentleman showed up. I HAD PAID ALMOST $150 FOR A TWO MAN CREW!!!
FALSE GUARANTEE BY ABES OF MAINE#2: The two man crew would unload the HDTV from the truck.
TRUTH: My wife and I needed to assist the elderly pleasant gentleman as it was impossible for him to unload it by himself. I have been suffering from chronic back pain and the mandated work was painful. I HAD PAID ALMOST $150 TO AVOID THIS EVENT!!!
FALSE GUARANTEE BY ABES OF MAINE#3: The HDTV would be stabilized from bouncing and damage by resting on its own pallet on the truck.
TRUTH: The TV was transported bouncing in the back of a van. The TV appears undamaged, but this is not at all that which I was assured given the substantial extra cost burden.
TRUTH #4: I will insist that American Express not release the $149.99 for service not rendered.
TRUTH #5: I will not again order from Abes of Maine given the fraudulent effort by Abes of Maine.
RECOMMENDATION #1: Order from amazon instead of Abes of Maine as amazon sellers need to adhere to a higher quality of service or lose access to a huge customer base. I am now ordering a 92" HDTV via AmEx and amazon through One Call. I called One Call and they stated that the free shipping is paradoxically faster than "white glove" but white glove will include a 2 man crew for $100 extra, not the $149.99 of Abes of Maine.
RECOMMENDATION #2: Do not seek to save money by buying from Abes of Maine as they engage in fraud, necessitating communication with your credit card company, explaining the theft to reverse the unauthorized FRAUDULENT transaction.
RECOMMENDATION #3: Use American Express for your purchases, especially electronic equipment, as not only do they double the warranty but they support you when efforts are made by negligent companies such as Abes of Maine to defraud you for services not rendered.

"I had done business with them before a couple of years back and they were great. They have deteriorated considerably since then.
Placed an order for a tablet, went online a week later to see the status and stated 'sent to warehouse' . Went online a couple of days after that still same status, so I gave them a call. The guy told me the order was in my state and it should ship in a couple of days. A week later still nothing. Called them again, guy that orders had taken off for the day, the would call me back the next day. Guess what ? They never called. Called them back 2 days later ( closed on Sat) now they tell me they are waiting for the tablet from the manufacturer. So the earlier guy lied to me. The person on the phone told me it's been close to a month do you want to cancell the order ? I said yes of course. He then states ok I'll send the email to the dept so they can cancell the order and refund your money. I ask how long is that going to take. He states I don't know I do not work in that dept. Grrrrr I asked for the person who works in the dept so I can contact him. At this point I am extremly po'd God only knows when I'll get me money credited back.

Review update Aug-16-2012
After writing 3 emails to 3 different departments. I did get a call back from them and my monies were credited back to my credit card 2 days later. About a week after a gentleman from the Co. called to inquire on my order and what happened. I told him the whole story, he profusely apologized asking if I would give them another chance. They are doing some restructuring in their procedures and communication in the CO has suffered. He asked me if I already has bought the tablet and I had told him yes that I had, so they sent me a $25 certificate for a future order. Since I had great service with them prior to this incident I will give them another chance. I do give them credit for calling me, I think any other CO. would have just blown this off.
I do give them credit for calling back and follwing up.

"I ordered a Gemini FIRSTMIX I/O USB MIDI DJ Controller with Soundcard at 129.95 from Abes in July 15th. Today is August 4th and I have NOT received my product. I tried calling and the customer service rep stated I ordered a special order item and it takes a while longer to ship out (which was NEVER advised to me anywhere on my online reciept or the website) Then the customer service rep transferred me to a shipping warehouse dept. which rand for 10 min and noone ever picked up. I called the store a week and a half ago, since then i have not been able to get anyone on the phone. I called my bank and sent a dispute to get my money back after waiting 3 weeks to recieve my order. I will NEVER use this company again. Horrible customer service, lack of information and disorganization. Ive been buying online for 8 years and I have NEVER had any problems. Would NOT advise anyone to purchase online through Abes of Maine. "
"They spam you before you even get the product. I carefully unchecked the multiple pre-checked "spam me please" boxes on their order form, yet the "back to school specials" emails started to arrive immediately. Not recommended."
A rep from Abe's of Maine, dvm1818, has responded:
“Update:
First of all I am not the same guy that you spoke to since I am not a salesman, I honestly can not believe a posting stating that I was the same person calling especially we do not even sound the same.
I work in customer relations and here at Abe`s , if for some reason our customer is unhappy we work on making sure we correct the problem where he/she will return and they are very happy with Abe`s.
So please do not write things down that is not true.
I again i had called you to ask for your help by telling me exactly what happened.
Dear Valued customer.
I have reviewed your posting and do apologize that you had an unpleasant experience.
But I must say after our brief conversation I do not understand how I can know what took place with out any information from you if you will not work with me so I can help.
Please contact me at 1800-227-0400 ext 203
David Mosseri”
