Story:
After being burned by high pressure tactics, delayed shipping, and inventory issues with Expresscameras.com, I came upon resellerratings.com and came down to three companies that are rated high with good prices. They are 17th Photo, Digital Foto Club, and Ace Photo & Digital Store.
I went with Ace Photo & Digital Store. I called them on 10/20/2005 around 10am. The salesperson who answered was Ken. Pleasant, friendly and direct to the point. No high pressure tactics. He inquired if I wanted an extended warranty. I replied 'No' and that was that. There was no offer for other accessories. I asked for availability of the product and he said it is available. I decided to go with 2nd Day air to expedite. Their shipping prices are also very reasonable. Ken promised that the camera will arrive on Monday 10/24/2005.
Result:
I'm happy to say that everything they promised over the phone was delivered. I received the camera today, 10/24/2005. The packaging was good and robust. The camera is brand new and came with batteries.
Other Issues:
As good a story this is, there arose other issues. These are concerns that I still have but am still glad that my camera arrived...
- During the order process I was asked for my email so that I can be provided an order status. I never received a single email regarding order status or shipping tracking number.
- Order Tracking on web page did not work. My order number was always invalid so I end up calling them to follow-up on order status. One person who answered the phone said order tracking works when an order ships. My order was shipped on the day I placed it.
- I called Ace Photo & Digital Store but my credit card was charged under Digitalfoto Discount Club.
- I am wondering why there is another name for the same business. Are they hiding something?
- when you call them, they do not introduce the company on the phone line. They just say 'hello' instead of introducing themselves as "Ace Photo & Digital Store, may I help you..."
- The invoice sheet says the camera was ordered from Digitalfoto Discount Club.
- As of this writing, my credit card was charged twice on the same day for the same amount. I called customer service and they requested that I fax my statement. I will do this tomorrow.
- I am wondering if this is a standard practice to charge twice thinking that you don't receive your statement for 30 days. But my statement is available online and I caught this double charge.
- This is my first time ordering from this store and was not sure if the product will arrive quickly had I shipped it regularly.
Bottomline:
They promised, They delivered. Although I would buy from them again. I would be extremely cautious with high priced items. I have a problem with being charged twice on my credit card. I also lament the fact that I did not receive a single email notification of order status. BH Photo immediately acknowledges all your orders and gives you a timely update of your orders.
The rating for now on this company is VERY DISSATISFIED because I have not received a credit for $326.82.
I will change this rating to SOMEWHAT SATISFIED when I receive a credit.
UPDATE: 10-25-2005
I found out this morning that the amount was already credited. Quick action! The review would have been very satisfied if not for a few minor issues. I would still recommend with caution. Be ready to make follow-up phone calls.
