Setup and installation was easy and in less than 30 minutes, I was up and running.
I immediately installed Fallout 3. It ran buttery smooth on ultra high settings at max resolution on the 24" screen.

"This review is for the Alienware M17 laptop I purchased on January 27, 2009. I will be up front, I AM NOT a computer game player. So, you are probably wondering why a non game player would purchase such a computer. For one, all of the features that were offered. Secondly, it is a laptop, a space saver that contains 1 TB of hard drive space. My Alienware M17 shares a table with a massive 77 lb "gaming" computer that also has 1TB of hard drive space. Thirdly, it has a quad-core processor... it is ULTRA FAST! Forthly, since I do not burn CDs and DVDs, I chose the Blu-Ray reading option. This means I can watch Blu-Ray movies on it which I think is great! Lastly, I purchased the Alienware M17 because I believe it is a computer that will accomodate my computer requirements for who knows; maybe the rest of my life! "
"This is the second PC I've bought from Alienware and my experience both times has been stellar.
Customizing your PC is an easy process online. The selection of components is nice. There isn't usually a huge selection per component, but I like the fact that they cut out the bloat and select the few best items for you to choose from. Placing your order is easy enough.
The system ships in a little over a week, with a great, informative progress/tracking page where you can tell exactly what stage of production your system is in.
It is shipped by FedEx (my only complaint, simply because I've always had trouble with them.) and arrives in a few days. Packaging is great. The system is well protected inside the box.
Once I hooked it up, I ran the system through it's paces; surfing the internet, watching HD video, using Photoshop, editing video, and most importantly playing video games. It handled everything I could throw at it flawlessly. I haven't even had a BSOD or restart or freeze since I first turned it on. Oh, and it looks cool.
The only deterrent I can think of is the price, which compared to building it yourself is quite high. This time around though I wanted some brand new parts (intel i7), and I did some research. I found out that the Alienware cost about as much as one I could build alone, except I get that 3 year warranty with Alienware.
Overall I've been extremely satisfied with my purchases from Alienware and I'm happy to suggest it to all my friends."

"I bought an Alienware M17 Notebook a few months ago, and I am absolutely thrilled with it. My only qualm is that it only has three USB ports, so I had to buy a hub. The computer was expensive, but worth every penny. I have only had two problems with it, and they have both been solved by calls to tech support. "Alienware is a fantastic brand and my new Area-51® m15x has not let me down in terms of multitasking and gaming. The fans are a bit noisy and the keyboard takes some wearing in and is already squeaking on a few of the keys. However, these are some tradeoffs for the processor power, nice graphics, and cool lighting effects. One other thing I did not think of beforehand that I now consider a bit of drawback is that the control for the volume is similar to the touchpad; you drag your finger along it to increase or decrease the volume... but it is incredibly difficult to work and I find it hard to get just the volume I want and have to instead use other methods of adjusting the volume.
Otherwise, as I said, it's fantastic for gaming and pretty sleek and visually appealing so it depends on what characteristics are important to you."

"Although Alienware is a premium gaming machine source, that's not why I chose them. I don't really play games that require the type of hardware they supply. However, I do write software and give presentations on high-end, programming techniques.
As such, I needed two things in my new system: a quad-core processor and at least 4GB of RAM. Alienware offered this in a laptop with dedicated video memory and 64bit drivers, so I wouldn't lose any of my RAM to inconsequentials.
The communication of status after the order was phenomenal; I was able to tell on a daily basis how close my new system was to shipping.
I've now had the new laptop almost two months and have nothing but good things to say about it. If you're looking for a high-end system and excellent customer service, Alienware is the place to go."
