"I was dumbfounded. Just opening the sleek black box for my m17 notebook was an experience! The notebook arrived earlier than expected, and it is everything I hoped. Fast, pewerful, and very quiet. I definietly would purchase though alienware again!"

"Overall I am very pleased with my Alienware machine that I purchased in February. I love the customizable order interface, and being able to modify and review things easily. I have purchased two Alienware machines and have been VERY happy with the quality, customer service, ordering process, and shipping. I especially like that the system does not come with a bunch of extra junk installed on it - free trials, programs I don't need, etc. I also like the case and front panel configuration - makes it very easy to use peripheral USB and Firewire devices.

Two things that would be nice to have - one is to be able to select different operating systems (i.e. in this case the option to have Windows XP instead of Vista, or offer Linux options). The other is that for the operating system that comes with the system, have a real install CD instead of a recovery CD.

"I have an M17x that I ordered back in December. I ordered this instead of an M17 because I could not get 8GB on the M17 and memory was more important than video performance. I had trouble tracking the order as the on-line system did not work right and Alienware did not seem to be able to answer e-mails in a timely fashion. A phone call resolved any questions I had about order status.

The system performance is excellent. The case is a little too flexible for my taste but fit and finish are very good. The weight is a little higher than other systems of this size which is balanced by having more features available (dual drive bays, dual video cards, etc.). The only real issue I have had is resume from hibernate where the video never comes back. Since I don't really need to hibernate, I have not looked into resolving this issue.

Overall, I am very pleased with this system.

"This is my 2nd time purchasing from Alienware, and I'll say this, they finally have it through their head that this is a luxury item. the laptop I got this time, came wraped in felt cloth, with a fancy custom keyboard cover. Along with this the user manual was bound in a leather case that really screamed 'hey you just spend 2800 dollars on a computer lets make you feel speical.' the previous computer I ordered from them came with a plastic sleeve, and the user manual was wraped in a sorta carboard envelope, so that was a vast improvement. all in all the machine is fast as hell, and a great gaming system. it screams through L4D with everything turned all the way up no problem :) would recomend over a dell any time. "

"One word WOW. I always wanted to purchase and alienware computer. This year when i finally got one it was everything that i thought that it would be. The power that the m-17 offers is great! The primary reason that i went with the brand is that it pushes the limits for PC gaming. Playing on it everything is running so smooth. If you are thinking about getting A alienware tower or laptop STOP thinking just go get it. Will be buy from them again!"

"I must say that I am exceptionally pleased with the service that I received from Alienware. My order was placed on a Friday, and was already on the last step of its 200pt performance check be the next Monday. However, for some reason, it stayed at phase 8 for about a week, which had me somewhat worried that it wouldnt make the exprected shipping date. But I was pleasantly supprised to see it ship out 4 days early, and arrive exactly on time. Although the update emails were not always that "up-to-date" they were still informative enough so that I was never at a loss as to the whereabouts of my laptop. So far, it has been able to tke any game that I have played on it, and is a huge step up from the old Dell Inspiron 9300 I have been using. Although their machines are fairly pricey, you get great performance for what you pay for, and then some. I would most definatly recomend Alienware to anyone who has the money and will to do so."

"I am very happy with the system i received. It operates flawlessly, and while being quite large looks good just sitting there. The inside of the case is extremely neat with the wires placed behind the MOBO. The standard cooling works better than the standard cooling on my previous gaming systems. Very Very good quality ."

"Horrible RMA experience:

Ordered a top of the line system with liquid cooling.. So called more reliable solution. Well it failed a little under a year later just before the warranty is up. So I call up alienware for help, they determine that they have local techs that could come.. But after a few mins of checking they determine the techs are too dumb to work on the liquid cooling system.. It is a complex propiatary system.
So I ship it off to them.. Being canadian they tell me to send it to Ontario to a great new repair center and it should take around 2 weeks to repair, seems fine to me. They give me a fedex ground waybill - I give it to fedex the next day. Fedex takes a week just to confirm they have it, then another to ship it. Another 4 weeks pass and no word from alienware.
I send several email asking for an update - they reply with the same thing each time telling me nothing. Really dumb replies just saying "Hi I requested an update on your system but got no reply from the repair center yet".. Aparently they are totally incompetant and unable to even communicate with there canadian repair center!?!? So I call up and ask them to call in and find out right now, but acording to tech support them have no telephones there?? They offer to send an email.. I tell them thats useless. They say they really can't do much but offer to transfer me to customer server.. Which has me waiting 15minuits on hold. Finally I get someone and ask politely for an update. He tells me the same thing at first but then offers to actually figure it out. He says he will send an instant message (god knows why the email support couldnt do this) and after just a couple minuits gives me an update basicly telling me there canadian repair center are totally worthless so they cannot repair it and are going to ship it to Miami to get repaired. Offers no explanation why this took a month other then "fedex delays" ..sure.

Another week passes and I send another email. They reply telling me the system arrived in Miami and they will look at it. Another week passes and I ask for another update - get a canned reply saying they haven't received one from repair center yet (heared that before).

Another week passes and I get a phone call from a woman at Fedex saying they have my system, but it's in Quebec at customs. They want me to give them the proof and export when I shipped it to the USA.. But the fact of the matter is I did not do that, I shipped it to Ontario so I couldn't. I her Alienwares phone number and she called them. I emailed her for an update and she said she left a message to a couple people at Alienware asking them to send the document.. But ofcourse they still haven't.

And the really dumb thing is - Alienware replied to me again saying they still don't know whats going on with my system. They don't even realise they've repaired it and shipped it back to me.. Wow this company really needs to learn to communicate better. I wouldn't of even known the tracking number or anything if Fedex didn't call me.

So grant total of wasted time:
4 weeks sitting in canada repair center
1 week being shipped to miami
2 days actaully being repaired (i hope)
1 day being shipped to Quebec only to get stuck being alienware didn't include the correct documents
13 days and counting sitting there stuck
Including intial ship time thats about 9 weeks my systems been gone.

So canadian customers - Beware there awful RMA service. If they ask you to ship it to Ontario, demand to ship it where they might actaully fix it, Miami.

Update:
I received my system finally after calling in to get the customs problem cleared up. They did repair my problem by replacing the liquid cooling system with what seems to be a new/different model. CPU temps are slightly higher then they were before but still very good (20ish C idle, 40ish load).
Oddly they have also replaced the motherboard (swapped from xfx to evga 680i), rewired some stuff and re-installed windows too. Not sure why they did that as there were no issues with the mobo, perhaps they detected some minor issue. The new motherboard has a cooling fan on the northbridge unlike my xfx, and ofcourse ran at rather loud 6000+ RPM by defauilt.. Luckily it was easy enough to lower its speed and noise.
So overall I am satisfied with the repair.

Also it appears Alienware does monitor these reviews as they contacted me my choice of free stuff from their shop to make up for the incredibly slow RMA experience. That was cool of them and does somewhat improve my opinion of them.

"My Gaming system was unbelievable, have never seen my game look or run so well...I was so impressed, untill I got an overheated system shutdown. Had the system for two months and it has been gone for four weeks and still has not reached the repair facility..they telling me another three weeks if they can get it back across the border. I would not recommend this company to anyone. "
