I buy mostly electronics and camera equipment, but I have also purchased things you would not necessarily associate with Amazon: food, hardware, AC filters etc.
It is just great that they update the price of the items in your cart continuously: my cart is actually a wish list (I keep a lot of products in the "save for later" section, and when an item reaches a certain price I place my order).
It is true that free shipping can be slow, but I never had problems with the condition of the items received. On the few occasions I decided to return an item, the process was very simple: you go on the web page, view the order you want to return an item from, print the authorization and stick it to the original box. Once Amazon receives the item, the refund is pretty fast, a couple of days at most."

Like one of the other reviewers, my Amazon.com account was suddenly closed without warning by the account services people at Amazon because I had returned too many items that were damaged due to poor packaging. For people shopping at Amazon.com, I just want to warn you that unless you have low expectations for the quality of the products you purchase, this is not the place where you want to shop. Yes, Amazon.com does offer cheaper prices for certain products (NOT ALL PRODUCTS) on their sites, but as the old addage goes, you get what you pay for. And don't expect them to change their habits of using CHEAP packaging for the items you puchased because I was never able to convince them to use better packaging after all the incidents that I had with damaged items purchase thru them or their affiliated sellers. They will only penalize you, the consumer for returning damaged items too many times. Most people (just like myself) think that Amazon.com have a good returns policy with the so call "A-Z buyer protection plan", but the real truth is that they treat the consumer as a means to squeeze money from rather than to provide good service to. It all sounds good, but try returning damaged or defective products a few times in a row and your account could be SHUT DOWN without even a WARNING!!!!
Frankly, I was always hesitant to shop with them and this experience only confirms and reinforces my apprehensions about shopping on their site.

"8/22/08- I pre-ordered software from Amazon.com using a gift card. When placing the order there were 2 "Pre-Order" icons. Sadly, I disnt realize one was with Amazon and one was with a "Third Party Seller".
After realizing the order was being processed under Amazon AND Hubbagames (3rd party) I got concerned. I saw that Hubbagames did NOT have a phone number on thier site. I sent 2 emails to cancel the order. One to Amazon and one to Hubbagames. No response from Hubbagames.
I ordered the same software directly from Amazon.com, since I do NOT do online business without a phone number to call (Hubbagames).
I spoke to Amazon's customer service. Your typical foregin call center. Explained that I needed the first order cancelled and the gift card applied to the second order. Trying to get them to understand was hard enough. I was told they cant cancel the order placed with the 3rd party seller. I have to cancel with them. I explained I tried and it hasnt happend. I asked for a contact number for Hubbagames and was told they dont have a phone number. I asked how they do business with a company that does not have a phone #, and was told they are not required to have a phone #. Odd. I thought standards would be higher.
I spoke to a supervisor (Cody B.) and was told he will personally take the 3rd party order placed with a $50 gift card, and apply it to my second order, so I would only be paying $4 and some change, one the oder gets cancelled. I said great, and asked for an e-mail detailing that information. I never recieved that e-mail.
8-29-08- First order through the 3rd party seller has STILL not been canceled. No response from Hubbagames. Called Customer service again. Was told it might take 1-2 weeks to get it the 3rd party order cancelled going through Amazon. Was also told by a new supervisor (Jason), that they will apply the gift card from the 3rd party order to the second order placed directly with Amazon. Again, asked for the e-mail to confirm it. Still nothing.
I will NOT be doing business with Amazon.com again. Their 3rd party sellers are no-name businesses with no contact info. Be VERY careful when ordering with Amazon.com. Make sure you are NOT buying from a 3rd party. And good luck calling customer service. Good luck with understanding them, and them understanding you. Its a call center with no idea of what they are doing. They dont even give out last names so they dont have to take responsability for what they tell you.
There are plenty of other e-tailers out there that DO communicate with the customer. I would suggest trying them first.

"Ordered a camera bag on August 19, early AM. They gave a suggest time frame of about a week (August 26) for the free shipping option, so I continued. But the item didn't ship until August 22nd. Items was in stock too, and there weren't any other items that held up the order.
I realize 'free shipping' doesn't give you too many perks, but I've had plenty of experience with 'free shipping' with them in the past, and I can't ever remember a 3 day delay.
Even an automated e-mail saying the item will not ship for 3 days would have been nice...but no such notice of delay.
I'm noticed that with more expensive items, they tend to ship faster. I bought a $1145 camera kit from them just last week, paid for a simple shipping upgrade, and the item was at my door the next day. That's what makes Amazon great....and it also highlights all the more when they don't a great job, like with this order.
I'm sure I'll order from them in the future, but I'm not longer convinced their 'free shipping' option is all that great of a deal. If you're on ANY kind of a time table to get an item, don't rely on it....even if you think you have 2 or 3 days to spare."

I tried to return a damaged item to them due to their poor packaging which isn't the first time already. Now they decided to close my account. I sent them an email to find out what's going but no reply. I called their customer service and they refused to assist me. I can't return my item to them and it costs me $250, they are just simply don't want to deal with me and blacklisted me. Amazon.com is a rip-off and HORRIBLE."
