"Got the same hard-upsell and when I didn't bite, suddenly it was 8 weeks to get the camera. Phone guy was incredibly aggressive and rude. Cancelled the order, which of course is what they want if you don't knuckle under.
Found THIS site by googling for "digitalliquidators scam", it's the #1 result, so that should tell you something."
"Reviews on this website scared me, after I placed the order. The camera, a Canon S400, arrived within three days, was new, was a USA model, and no extra fees were tacked on. Shipping was a little high ($19.99 ~ NYC to South Carolina) but overall the price was very good.
They did the e-mail scam, requesting a call back and gave me B.S. about warranty and memory card stuff which I didn't accept. I've been insulted by smarter people; the game didn't bother me.
So unless they surprise me with another credit card charge (no reason to think so), my experience was good."
"I found the company to practice preditory sales techniques. They sent me e-mail telling me they could not process my order. It seems there was no problem with the order, they just wanted to sell me more items, and persisted even after I told them I didn't want to buy any thing else. Sales person was rude and treating, tell me he "wouldn't place my order". He refused to forward my call to a supervisior when I wanted to complain about his phone behavior. "
"I just bought a camera from Digitalliquidators.com and I am nervous as hell. I saw there ad in MacHome magazine, a magazine for people with Apple computers. So I went to the website and found an awesome price on a Canon digital camera. It was $200 less than the price I could get it locally at circuit city. So I bought it online. The next morning I get an email saying 'call our cust service to complete the order', At first I was annoyed, it defeats the purpose of online buying if you have to call. But I have had to call in before when I bought a camera from dbuys.com.
When I called the guy(Peter, seemingly nice guy) he started asking me to buy all kinds of extras. No big deal, I know they usually have a high mark-up on accessories so they try to push those. He offered a new battery because he said it only came with a 30minute battery. I knew that was B.S. so I didn't bite. I declined all options except the 5 year warranty. My last Canon had several problems so I wanted a warranty anyway. He offered a warranty for $150 plus a free case and express shipping for the same price as regular shipping. A major selling point of the warranty is that he said they pay for shipping if it breaks and they garranty a 10 day turnaround on repairs. That sounded great because the last warranty company I used kept it for months and shipping was all on me. One time they even sent it to the wrong person.
So I bought the camera and hung up. When I got to work I told a colleague and he warned me about these photo shops in New York. He said they are very shady. Thats when I started reading sites like this to get an idea of what I got myself into. Needless to say I am very nervous. Peter said my camera would be here on Monday (in 5 days). It will be a nerve racking weekend because I just hope I get a fully functional camera that is the american version.
After reading this site I get the impression that DL.com's MO is to sell cheap cameras and get the customer with extras. I they don't want extras then DL.com tells them it will be a 6 week delivery time. I guess my purchase went relatively smooth because I got the warranty. We'll see what I get in the mail though.
I called DL.com and posed as a new customer just to see what would happen if I declined all extras. I asked if he had it in stock and he said yes. He asked if I wanted the 3 yr or the 5 yr warranty. I said neither, I'll just use the 1yr factory warranty. He said it didn't have one and I said of course it does. This is when he became very very very rude. I won't waste time telling everything he said. Suffice to say if we would have been face to face I would have knocked his teeth out. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the manager. I asked to speak to the owner and he said he was the owner. Lies flow out his mouth so easily. I hung uo and started feeling very nervous and debated cancelling my order.
Later I called Peter, the guy I originally made my purchase through. I told him my concerns about peoples opinions of DL.com's business practices. He assured me I was getting a brand new american version of my camera. Of course he could be lying. He said he doesn't know why "some people feel the need to talk bad about us".
I am wondering now what my options are if I get an unacceptable product shipped to me. Can I call my credit card company and have them do something? Can I try to outsmart them and get the camera at the low price then get a refund on the warranty?
If anyone has any advice please help me.
Oh yeah, 1 more thing. I called to get a tracking number and he said it has been processed but no tracking number yet. Call back tomorrow. I just bought it 12hrs ago so i am giving them the benefit if the doubt but after reading these sites I can honoestly say I will never buy from them again.
Also I found out the warranty is thorugh the same company (MAck camera) that gave me all the problems before and I know they do not pay shipping and have a 10 turnaround tiime like Peter told me.
Its amazing that these people can lie like this and stay in business.

"Found best price on web search. Ordered product (Sony DSC-F77) E-mail says I need to call to complete order. Got a high pressure push for accessories & extended warrantee. Declined. Got told that they will not include the docking station and software (that comes with the camera) unless I purchase extended warrantee for additional $99. Told them to cancel order."
"Never before have I experienced the lack of customer service as with digitalliquidators.com. I placed an order for a digital camera on May 23, 2003. It is now July 5, and I have not heard from them. In the meantime, I have moved. I have tried calling, e-mailing, and writing to them--at first to change my address and now to cancel my order--all with no reply. Customer "service" is open 10-5. The last straw that made me decide to cancel the order was Thursday, July 3 when I called at 4:30pm. I selected the choices for customer service and was put on hold for THIRTY minutes at which time someone in sales picked up and told me that customer service was now closed and had rolled their phones over to the sales department. This company is UNBELIEVABLY bad to work with. "
"Bought a Minolta dImage 7Hi from them. Price listed on the website was $709. Called up the company to "verify" the order. They tried to sell me items that were already included in the package: case, battery pack, imaging software (which they told me I needed, and that Adobe Photoshop would not work. They lied about this.), and warranty. I agreed to buying these additional items, since they said they were needed, and the grand total came out to be $1059.99, more than I would have paid at any other company. It shipped fine (probably because i paid the extra money), however they attempted to charge my VISA twice. Even though they cancelled the 2nd charge immediately, they did not bother to contact either me or my bank, resulting in a 3 day hold on my account, and 2 returned checks: $77.50 in fees I am responsible for now that were a result of no fault of my own. They failed to take responsibility for it, despite my repeated emails and phone calls to them. My bank says that they are responsible for reimbursing me this amount. They were extremely rude on the phone and would not let me talk to the manager. The one time I called, they forwarded me to the person I had just talked to 10 minutes earlier about the problem, and I got an answering machine. I will NEVER do business with this company again. I have notified the BBB and the Attorney General of New York about their dishonest illegal activities.
Update: I have also just found out that a 3 year warranty, which I had paid $300 for, was not included with the package. The package only included the 1 year warranty that already came with the camera. They have 3 days to refund me this amount.
Update 2: Called them this morning. They refused to refund the amount I had paid for the warranty, but claimed they would send out the warranty. We'll see if this actually happens.

Their business practices are fraudulent and there is no reason they should continue to make any money off of this scam.

"I contacted Digital Liquidators to purchase a Canon EOS 1D. After placing the internet order I received a phone call trying to sell more items with the camera. I did purchase a couple of extra items. The company guaranteed to ship the product out on Monday to insure that the delivery would be to me by Thursday. On Wednesday when I was able to finally check the order on their web site, it said that they shipped on Tuesday via ground shipment and I would not be arriving until the following Monday because of the holiday weekend; which was why I wanted it on Thursday.
Based on their promise I called to confirm the unbelievable information on their web site. After speaking with Bill at the company for a couple of minutes trying to explain my plight, he ended up calling me too cheap to pay for the 2nd or 3rd day air. Needless to say that I no longer wished to speak with him I asked for his supervisor. He told me that he did not have one, so I asked for the owner's name and phone number which he would not give. Finally getting fed up with me, he transferred me to another person who at least apologized for Bill's behavior.
Again I told my story, and although seemingly understanding, he would not admit that their company did not ship the order on time and would not refund even part of the shipping as a good will gesture. Considering that I am the one that is out the camera for the fourth of July weekend, it was the least that they could do – and I would have been happy with that.
The whole situation could have been avoided with proper policies, customer support, respect, and admission of wrongdoing; instead they lost a customer for life.
In case they read this, the person that you upset is an employee of one of the big three auto makers. I just created a PO for the purchase of some photographic equipment totaling over $35,000 and I will be using another retailer. Hopefully the next person that has a problem with your company will not be dealt with so harshly.
Be careful who you upset, you never know who you are dealing with."
"I purchased a Digital camera (Nikon D100) from this outfit. I would like to bring some concerns about their business practices.
1. Buying from them was an unpleasant and risky experience because they tried to lure me with a low price and than tried to insist that I add on accessories for ridiculous prices. They also presented some untrue facts such as “the Nikon G lenses will not work with this camera”, which is not true.
2. They sent me a “gray market” camera and lens even though they clearly told me, in three separate telephone conversations, that I would be receiving a Nikon USA warranty camera from them. (The USA warranty they offer is an in-store warranty for 90 days, whereas a Nikon USA warranty is for one year).
3. During my order, they indicated a $49 Shipping and Handling charge on their web site. They then charged $91 for S&H.
I saved $70 by purchasing the item from them, but I would never again buy a single item from them, nor would I recommend this store to anybody. You could buy the same camera outfit for $70 more, and get a full USA warranty, and get peace of mind and a hassle free shopping experience as well. This company is not reliable."
"Deceptive advertizing and basically dishonest business practices. This operation should be shut down and put out of business. Probably won't happen--they are too slick, and spend thousands of dollars on advertizing on the internet to "sucker" people in. So the best you can do is SHOP ELSEWHERE and tell your friends to do the same."
"Their web site reported camera in stock - at best price on the web - I ordered - received an email requesting I call in to verify order - I called they tried to sell me $200 extended warranty, I refused, they tried to sell me items that were supposed to be in the box, software, cables etc, I refused - now camera is not in stock and will take 6-8 weeks to order from over seas - I cancelled order - they better not charge my card."
"STAY AWAY, STAY FAR, FAR AWAY!!!!!!!
I too, got the email stating that in order to process my online purchase, I would have to call them. So, I did and spent the next 15 minutes on hold. That did not start the exchange well. My call was answered by Chad, whom I could barely understand. Chad proceeded to do the whole sales pitch thing for accessories for the digital camera that I had ordered. The price of the accessories were up to 5X average retail. I straight out told Chad that I didn't have the budget to buy any accessories after spending $700 for a camera. I said, "I just want to place the order for the camera."
To which he replied, "No." I asked him what he meant by no and he told me that unless I bought at least one of the accessories, I could not purchase the camera.
This company is fraudulent. Most of what Chad told me were lies. Do not buy from them!"
"They delayed the order and it took over two weeks to process my order. After several calls they said it was processed, but they never actually shipped it. They said it would deliver in 7-10 days, but it never showed up. They delayed the order and it took over two weeks to process my order. After several calls they said it was processed, but they never actually shipped it. They said it would deliver in 7-10 days, but it never showed up. When I called to check on the status of the order, the customer service rep only wanted to sell me accessories to the camera. The accessories are extremely overpriced and appear to pay some type of commission to the sales people. Go to another website, I did."
"This company gives "bait & switch" a new spin.
Advertise one of the best prices...service reps offer two weeks delivery...but turns into 8-12 weeks when you don't buy overpriced accessories or extended warranty. I doubt if you'd ever get a low priced gray market camera ever...but I'm sure they'd ship an overpriced USA version right away. I cancelled my order. Wish I had read these reviews before I got "involved" with these masters of the "two step!"
Save your time and find a reputable seller."
"I found this site two days after ordering a Cannon S400 for $439 plus $35 shipping. (Actual shipping cost was $8)
I bought a case for $20 (A similar one sold at Wal-Mart for $5)
I called my order in and was given the hard sell for the 300% marked up accessories.
I told them I would order my accessories elsewhere online, at a online store that did not grossly over charge for accessories. Spare Battery at Broadway $79, at Amazon.com $35 with free shipping, a 512 meg compact flash card for $359, bought a new one through e-bay for $81 and $6 shipping and it was a 30x high speed Ultra card. My camera arrived 6 days after I ordered it. (From New York to Maine)
It was not a gray market camera.
It included the Cannon USA warranty and all accessories were there. The invoice stated a price of $459 for the camera (Not $439) and $0 for the camera case.
I have used the camera a lot in the four days I have owned it and the camera works great.
Would I buy from Broadway again?
Most likely not.
I attempted to purchase the same model at BestBuy and Circuit City for $499, but both were out of stock for 2 weeks and Best Buy told me if I ordered one, the wait would be a minimum of 3 weeks on back order. So I ordered a camera first from Digital Liquidaters for $409.
I got a very heavy sales pitch on the way overpriced accessories including a $99 one year warranty because there was no manufacturers warranty with it. the guy was also very rude.
I did order a case from them for $24 (Half price because I was a first time customer) Ya right!
After 10 days of no camera, I called asking for a status on my camera, they said there was no record of my order. I gave them the invoice # and said they still could not find it.
I then called my credit card company and no money was charged for the camera. So I called Digital Liquidaters back and asked if the camera I ordered was a gray market item.
He said "Of course it is, for this price." Like I was an idiot for asking such a question.
Nothing on there web site states that these are “International” models that come with no warrenty and Cannon USA will not repair.
I told him to cancel my order and they did, with no hassle. I had a similar bad experience with A&M Photo World.
Bottom line is there not going to sell you a USA warrenty camera unless you buy enough of there over priced accessories to negate the great base price of the Camera .
I got from Broadway exactly what I ordered, but they were not professional and they insulted my intelligence when trying to sell me stuff I bought elsewhere online for one third the cost.
In the future I will buy from a more reputable on-line company and spend the extra $20 or $30 dollars to deal with a less shady more reputable outfit than Broadway, Digital Liquidaters or A&M Photo. Remember to add in the ridiculous shipping cost when pricing at the questionable on-line stores.
When you deal with these companies it is a crapshoot.
Is it worth it in an attempt to save minimal dollars? That is your call.
