"I had very bad experince with buy.com. When I
ordered the item, its status is in-stock. After
a week, I checked my order, they just cancelled
it, saying that "Our supplier recently informed us that item(s)on your order contained information from our supplier that was in error". So what? an ordre is a contract, if it's in error, that is your responsibility!"
"Buy.com's business model is seriously flawed. The inability to cancel an order before it ships is enough to keep me away in the future. The practice of sending the order to the "vendor of the day" results in inconsistent experiences at best. In my case I placed an order on August 2 for three different items all listed as "in stock". The order quickly went to "sent to warehouse". On August 12, I sent an email asking about the status. The same day email reply said something was backordered, that sometimes the status may take 24 hours to be updated. It might have been believable, except all three items were still listed as "in stock". In fact, two of the items were now listed at lower prices. I tried to cancel the order, status went "cancelation requested". I tried to reorder with the cheaper prices. I should have checked resellerratings first!
The very next morning, the first order was listed as shipped. I am very disappointed that an order cannot be cancelled directly and quickly. I tried to use the low price guarantee but you can only do this within three days of placing the order. It does not matter that my order had not shipped until today, 11 days later. I tried to cancel the three items in the second order. One item was successfully cancelled, the other two stayed in the cancel requested state over the weekend. Both eventually changed to ship, one on Monday and other on Tuesday.
Now the interesting part. Both of the items from the second order arrived Aug 19, one by UPS the other via FedEx (these are the lower priced items). The items from the first order finally arrived via USPS on Aug 23. The tracking system used by this vendor was useless. As for my low price guarantee request, Buy.com did refund $1.29 for one of the items. I have no idea which item or how they came up with $1.29 but better than nothing. Fortunately I can use all of these items so I will not have to deal with returns.
The slightly lower price is not worth the added aggravation."
"Great experience. Maybe one of the best web sites around. I did not have to communicate with anybody, but the ordering process was quick and they shipped the very next day. Product arrived quickly. No complications. Can´t complain."
"Bought a book on Tuesday, received it via USPS (free shipping) on Friday. Packaging was VERY minimal, but fast and quick, considering they're in So Cal (I'm in Bay Area). Used a coupon for the order, no problems with billing or checkout. Bought a few items from them before (last 4 years). Thought I would add some positive feedback. However, I do have some negative comments. I submitted question via their web form about the product, but they never replied. So if you know exactly what you want and don't expect to deal with customer service, then go ahead and order. "
"I received an e-mail from Buy.com indicating shipment of my order (placed on 7/19) had occurred on 7/26. I attempted to track the shipment from their web site but the tracking site issued the following message: "The tracking number xxx was not found in our tracking system." I waited another week and the status never changed so I sent an email explaining the situation and asking why the tracking number was invalid. Several days later their canned response told me once again that the order had shipped, and didn't address any of the questions in my original email. I sent another email asking for an answer as to why the tracking number was not found and several days later a response can telling me to submit a lost shipment claim. This has all taken 4 weeks. I don't think they ever shipped the item I ordered. Their customer service is pathetic. Save yourself the trouble and do business elsewhere.
Buy.com ranks as one of the worst, if not the worst, online resellers with whom I have ever done business."
"Beware of buy.com and their poor customer service. I have yet to receive any reply regarding the status of my order. Since I did not receive a reply, I submitted a request to cancel the order. The item was listed as 1-2 days and I paid for 2nd day delivery. The item was needed on a particular day.
Even though they did not respond to my original inquire on the status of the order, they did promptly reply that my cancellation request. However, their response was that my request was just that, a request. They may not process the cancellation request and it may be denied.
Unfortunately, they did promptly cancel the coupon that was used to place the order. Appearently they have no problems cancelling a portion of your order to increase the cost of the item. I do realize it is much easier to cancel a coupon electronically vs sending a request to the warehouse and having someone pull the item from the FedEx pickup area, however, I did not request for the two parts to be cancelled independently. It was for the entire order. If they could not pull the delivery, I still wanted my coupon applied to it.
In the end they shipped the item dispite my request. They had responded via email to my cancellation request 8 hours before the item actually shipped (plenty of time to send a request and have an employee pull the package) and I had place the cancellation request 12 hours before the item shipped. That was plenty of time for them to stop the order and cancel it completely, both the coupon and the item.
So the end result is that I will receive an item I cancelled and I will pay more than when I place the order for the item. The charge has been place on my credit card.
I will refuse delivery and dispute this purchase and charge. It is unacceptable that they do not answer your inquiries (to this day my original status inquiry is still unanswered) and they cancel only the coupon but not the item (resulting in higher costs).
Do not purchase anything from buy.com unless you do not care how much you pay or when you get the product. Do not expect to be kept abreast of the status of your order or for them to know what the status is. Good luck in contacting the company and receiving a reply.
I will never deal with buy.com again and hope that other do not either. Until consumers stop purchasing from them and force them to improve their service, they will continue to cut costs and provide the bare minimum in customer support.
God forbid if anyone actually uses one of their coupons and needs to cancel an order. You will end up with the product at a higher cost.
This is completely unacceptable for a company.
Had they just responded to my original order status request, we could have avoided this entire situation. However, they have shown repeatedly that they can not provide customer services and do not care to."
"I agree with all the previous posts. I ordered a Netgear router 108 Mbps with the WG511T from buy.com . They claimed it would ship in 1-2 days, it STILL HAS NOT SHIPPED. I wrote 4 emails to them and eventually told them to cancel it. It's still listed as "Cancellation Requested" and no responses have been given to me. If they still try to send this to me and charge my CC you can bet my CC company is going to hear from me and get some fraud charges going. I also wrote to the FTC regarding the whole situation and also about all the complaints I've read here and at fatwallet.
Here's the link to the FTC complaint form.

"I have been attempting to purchase a SpeedStream ADSL Modem from
buy.com. I chose this company because they were cheaper than the
others. The experience has given new meaning to the expression "You
get what you pay for." First they sent me a used product when I
purchased a new one. Not only was the product preused---it had
scratches all over it, but the box it came in was missing parts. When
I plugged the modem into my phone line it shorted out my entire phone
system! I called customer service, on a number that is not listed
anywhere on their website (it's 1 ***-***-****, if anybody needs to
know). Customer service was totally unhelpful: "we never send out
refurbished parts." I said: "but the modem was covered in scratches".
Ans: "it couldn't have been".
So I talked to a supervisor, and reordered the part. A couple of
hours later, I checked with my credit card, to see if the order had been
processed. Buy.com had called in for credit authorization, but had
incorrectly entered the expiration date on my credit card (even though
it was correctly entered into their data base). I immediately called
them back to get them to call in the authorization again. Two days
later, the order was still stuck in processing. It will take 3-5
business days to process, they said. I said: "but last time you
called in the order within an hour of my calling you." Answer:
"that couldn't have happened".
I talked to many people at Buy.com. They were all staggeringly
bureaucratic, repeating pre-scripted "placate the consumer phrases".
The worst of all was a supervisor named Warren Kimbal. Any company
that specializes in dissing it's customers and wants to find a customer
service agent who is an expert at protecting them from irate customers
should go out and try to hire this guy."
"After ordering, I sent them an e-mail for cancelling my order. They sent me an e-mail that says they cancelled it. 16 Days later they sent me another e-mail that they shipped my order. They do not know what they are doing.
Now I have to send back the items and pay shipping charges."
"Absolutely worthless (period)
Says it's instock when I order, however after 4 days of "sent to warehouse" I call them up on their obscure (not on their website) customer service line
***-***-****
write that down somewhere so you can tell the outsourced (New Delhi, India) customer service department to cancel your order. Brought my business to another company. STAY AWAY!!!"
"Ordered in-stock product on Aug 2, site says "ships in 1-2 days." Online status updated to "sent to warehouse" within 2 hours of purchase.
Then... nothing.
Still hasn't shipped, I've received no word on what's the hold up. Tried to cancel order 5 business days ago and still haven't received confirmation of cancellation.
Summary: they won't ship it, even though they say it's in stock and over a week past the shipping date, and they won't let me cancel the order either.
I've used Buy.com in the past (2000, 2001) and had excellent experiences with them, which makes their current customer service quality even more disappointing."
"Horrible service. I ordered two items that said the would ship in 1-2 business days. 4 busines days later, it took 3 phone calls to find out that their website lied and that they are out of stock. For a company this large you would think they would have a working inventory system. I will NEVER do business with this lying cheating outsourcing company again.
Update: totally crazy. After cancelling my order, the next day I was notified the items shipped. Go figure. Seems they were having "inventory control problems." Would still be very hesitant to buy from here again."
"Tried to order the DI-624 DWL-G650 bundle with a 10 dollar off coupon code. They told me the next day that they were out of stock even though the website listed it as being in stock. I thought nothing of it until I noticed the bundle is STILL listed on their site (3 days later) as being in stock and they have ignored my email from 2 days ago asking why their site says it is still in stock. Personally I think they just didn't want to honor the 10 dollar off coupon. I used to love buying from here several years ago but this company is going downhill fast."
"Ordered an item stated to ship within 1-2 business days. NOw going on 1-5 weeks and item has still not shipped. Customer service is a joke and gives canned CS answers. They could care less that the product page still claims shipment in 1-2 days and no one is getting their orders fulfilled. I had to cancel. Buy.com is 1 for 4 in successfully fulfilling my order. 75% of the time I end up cancelling my item when two weeks have passed and the item has yet to ship."
"I hate dealing with their offshored India customer service. They are not helpful at all, and often have a difficult time understanding English, due to either cultural differences or a bad phone connection. Once again I tempted fate with buy.com and ordered something that said In Stock. Well, it's been "In Stock" for the past two days, yet my order status is still "Sent to Warehouse", and their customer service is still saying the item is Backordered. Buy.com has probably the worst order management and inventory control systems, and they've further screwed it up by offshoring their customer service to India. Before buying here, try newegg.com or amazon.com for much better customer service, and especially if you'd just like to receive what you've ordered. Both amazon and newegg have great order management and both have extremely helpful customer service."
