Better than ratings

"I felt compelled to write a review here because of all the current rating of this store and the contrast with my own personal experience. This spring I decided to get back into hiking and my gear needed some serious upgrade. So searching online, I find campsaver has some nice gear and often at a better price than the competition. It looks like a serious enough site, but reseller ratings has them at a score of under 5 out of 10. Not good. For the most part though, the negative reviews seem to revolve about misunderstandings or different expectations. So I go ahead and take a chance with them. After completing the order, I felt a little paranoid and started thinking that maybe the store is not legit or maybe they will pull a switch and bait scam on me or...after all they don't even score 5/10 at reseller ratings.

Anyways, I received my gear no problem in about a week 10 days, got a tracking number for my order even talked to customer service. Ended up buying lots of stuff from them (6 orders over the course of a month) and received everything within the expected delivery period. I did have one problem with one of my orders - I had ordered a pair of hiking boots that came with a complimentary pair of socks, but I was informed that the socks were back order and they gave me a 10% discount for my next order instead. Not the way I would've done it, but in the grand scheme of things, an irritant not a show stopper. I did not try their fast shipping options, I always used the free shipping option so I can't comment on that.

So the point of this comment is to let people know that from repeated orders from this seller, I have received all my gear and the online experience is similar to other major retailers (you can see all you orders, track them, etc.). Bottom line, the store is legit and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

excellent experience, no issues

"I placed two orders with them in the last month or so and they arrived OK all the way to Australia (and not taking that long either). I cannot think of many other stores offering such quality items at such prices. I would have no hesitation in buying from them again. In fact I have just placed another three large orders with them. A bit baffled by others' poor ratings, it really doesn't look like we are speaking of the same store. No issues with payment either."

worst online shop ever!

"This is my first time experiencing weird credit card payment verification. They ask us to call the credit card company, but because I want to send the order to USA, while I'm not from USA, and only travelling to USA. So they are expecting the customer to make expensive international call to verify the payment. So crazy! And delaying the delivery, even though I wont be in USA forever! I cancelled it in the end, cause I'm afraid my order won't arrived. I ordered it 17 days before I leave USA, but they haven't shipped it after a week!!! So I cancelled it. To make it even worse, they email us about the verification, but they always take so long to reply your email! After the cancellation, I ordered from other online shop, and they shipped it the same day that that I ordered, no difficulties. So disappointed with campsaver. And I'll copy paste their weird verification here:

Option 1
Every credit card transaction has an authorization code/approval code (This code may also be called the transaction ID, transaction code, or authorization number.). Please contact your bank using the phone number on the back of the card that you used, and they should be able to provide you with that credit card approval code. This is a six digit number that may also contain letters. Once you're able to get that six digit code from your bank, please reply to this email, call or chat us so we can verify that number with what we have for your transaction. For U.S. customers we know that most banks will not provide this code. Please the option below.

Option 2
For U.S. customers we do have a Second option for verification. All you would need for this method is access to your online card statement. This option involves Campsaver processing a new, small charge (less than $2 USD) on the same card used on the order. This new charge will be available for you to view on your online statement immediately. Once you have verified the amount charged to your card we will void out that small charge so it is never deducted from your account. For this option we will need you to call our Customer Service to provide your card information once more, since we do not store any credit card numbers on file.

If you are willing to do the extra work, and delayed shipping cause of the extra work, you could try campsaver. Else you better buy from other online shop!

Great company, ignore the reviews of entitled people

"Let me start out by saying I have purchased things from many different online retailers, and this company is right up with the best of them. I get that some fellow customers may not be familiar with the workings of an online retailer, but some of the reviews here are just ridiculous. I had to write and inform you that if you order from Campsaver, you will be treated fairly like I have on many orders. I have always been treated with respect and had any issues that arose worked out quickly and efficiently. Their customer service was great, and while they do have some processes for verification that seem frustrating at first, they are always willing to bump up the shipping times to make up for it. For the people that are getting mad from the 1 day shipping not getting to them in time, it's obviously their fault for waiting until a day before and expecting the unreasonable. STOP ACTING SO ENTITLED and give this great company a chance. Or take your money elsewhere and pay more for the same product and service."

Camping Trip not Saved

"I had a short notice trip pop up and needed a new sleeping bag. Their website stated they had it in stock and could provide 1day shipping. One day later I received an email stating they actually did nto have it in stock and listed some options. I responded but did not receive a response back and did not know if I needed to purchase from another vender. 2 days left before the trip and I was still without a sleeping back. Had I gone thru another vender that I had previously purchased from without any issues, I would not have had to deal with all this worrying while getting ready. I will not be using Campsaver Again. They have not Saved my Camping trip. "

At your own risk..

"I’ve never given a business a bad review though I felt compelled to warn others of CampSaver.com. I placed an order nearly 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive some form of confirmation or invoice; no delivery date either. The only way you’ll know if the transaction took place is by checking your credit card authorized payments as they waste no time accepting payment in full. On top of not receiving any form of order confirmation, days after requesting an invoice and delivery date, I received a call then an email with instructions that I was required to take additional steps to verify my identity for an authorized payment. It seems once the order is placed and paid for, the business intentionally forgets their customer and any additional procedures unbeknownst. It is also unethical to refuse delivery of an order based on identity verification after accepting charges from a customer's credit card. After prolonging the delivery of the paid ordered merchandise, their customer care sent me an email only to claim that they have sent an invoice/order confirmation via email which I have yet to receive (even checked my spam box + you'd think it would be logical to simply attach it to that email). Upon figuring out there was no parcel tracking, I requested an immediate refund as I questioned the legitimacy of this business; they replied, their systems are down and will be unable to issue any refund for the time being. The business falls short of honesty and business ethics; the false claims of sending confirmation make for an uneasy/uncomfortable feeling with the sense of being hustled even though the dialogue between the vendor and myself was nothing less of professional. – scheme or not, I currently wonder if this is a legitimate business.
My recommended fine print on CampSaver.com: If you cannot resist the urge to take advantage of a slightly lower priced item compared to other shopping sites and if you certainly do not value time or possible fraud, then by all means order from this company at your own risk.

Good experience

"I bought a Mountain Hardwear vest from Camp Saver. After reading a lot of poor reviews I decided to give it a shot anyway because the item was a lot cheaper than anywhere else and by paying with Paypal I'd have some protection. No worries, I ordered Nov 2nd and received the vest on the 5th via Priority Mail. Can't ask for better service and the vest is perfect."

Lied to then ignored

"Called them up because I needed a rope for a climbing trip and was told unequivocally that if I paid the overnight shipping upcharge I would receive it on time. Waited patiently for shipping confirmation but never received it, called to confirm, no answer. the next day when it was supposed to arrive I finally did get an email that said they hadn't even shipped it yet. So now I don't have what I needed, am out the 45$ shipping and the rope is sitting on my front porch for the next 10 days. Three emails and no response."

"I'd ordered from Campsaver twice in 2012 but not since so I checked ResellerRatings before making my purchase. Wow, what a terrifying score and reviews!

The backpacking quilt I was interested in was $35 cheaper than any other store online so I took a chance. And everything turned out fine! Zero problems.

I took the free shipping and the box arrived in eight days.

I see some people had issues with Campsaver with items that weren't in stock, but this was on sale so they had it in inventory.

Don't buy from CampSaver!!!

"Disappointing. Ordered a backpack I needed for a camping trip. Not only did it not show up in time, but I had to call three times to try and find out why it hadn't been delivered for a month. Customer service was confused, said they always have tracking numbers, but mine didn't. Additionally, after a month of follow-ups, they emailed me back and said this has been happening lately, where items are not shipped. Wow....that should be red flag! Just a quick sorry and we'll refund your money. Geez....I actually needed a backpack. A true company that cared about it's customers would get another pack out immediately and offer a big discount for the trouble. I emailed back this exact request and never heard another word. DO NOT SHOP WITH THIS COMPANY!!!"

"Real disappointed in this website. To be honest I thought it was going to be a great experience as they had a killer deal on the products I was looking to purchase. First, I ordered items that totaled over 600$. Now on Backcountry.com or rei.com you would get free 2-day shipping. Now for this site it wasn't the case but it also wasn't really a big deal for me to pay for shipping as I had saved on the particular items and (3-5 day) shipping was only 9$. I order the items on Monday not expecting it would take a whole week to mail something from Utah to Oregon. I also needed the order to be placed by the weekend (Sat) as it was a gift to my wife and we were going backpacking that weekend. Well turns out they flagged me as a potential risk and when asked for what criteria I had been flagged for they could not tell me. Even though they had charged my account for the amount of the original order. Therefore, it makes me think that they didn't have the items in stock and were stalling to make it seem like they needed to check my information before they made the sale. Still have not received the item and I had to call and complain to make sure they would at least deliver it the following week. Items have still not arrived (Day 5) following Monday. Watch this company (who cares if they are google certified.) Their phone service was alright, but backcountry.com or rei.com still have better customer service and to be honest this company just really seems like an inferior little brother."

"If only Yelp allowed negative ratings - I think they should make an exception for this gem (read: sarcasm) of a company, and it boils down to dishonest business practices and a total disregard for good customer service.

I ordered two items over the summer, and I wanted to return them. This was my first time doing business with Campsaver, and it seemed like a good choice, seeing as though they have the "100 percent Customer Satisfaction Guarantee" plastered all over their website (note: they recently removed this verbiage from all webpages after I called them out for it...hmmmm... makes me think I was actually onto something...).

I politely spoke with a customer service rep who politely informed me of their 60-day return policy. I had failed to read the fine print, because I had assumed, wrongly, that the customer service guarantee meant that they would take the items back at any time if I wasn't happy. Boy was I wrong. Okay, fine, my mistake. I politely asked for an exception and was informed that they could not give a refund because technically they were not able to - something about how their credit card company shuts down after 60 days. This seemed rather odd - I had never heard of this before. But it's a convenient way to shut a customer down who makes such a request. "Hey, nuthin' I can do about it...it's our system?" I was immediately suspicious.

So, I was resigned with the fact that I had to settle for a store credit. But upon boxing up the two items, I noticed that they had sent me the wrong size of one of the items. No wonder it didn't fit...I hadn't bothered to check the size until I was packing it up. So, I immediately contacted the crack customer service team, who were now in a bit of a pickle - "now we have to refund a customer's money, but it's past the 60 days...what do we do?" I'm sure they asked themselves. Why, PayPal of course!! So with this situation, I showed that CampSaver can indeed issue a refund at any time if they choose, and that they essentially lied to me about not being able to issue a refund. I asked them if they make it a habit to lie to their customers. And, since they are processing a refund for one item, they may as well do it for both items as a token of good customer service, consistent with the 100 percent customer service guarantee pledge plastered all over their website. You would think this modest request, considering they had inconvenienced me by sending the wrong size, is the least they could do to win over a skeptical customer... Well, no such luck. They have obviously shown that their pledge is completely false, which is why that had the (belated) good sense to take it down from their website I suppose. By the way, I asked them if they mean what they write on their website, and never received a direct answer on that, either.

Oh, and I forgot - they couldn't take me at my word that they sent the wrong size. They made me take a picture of the item to prove that I wasn't lying to them! I guess a company that makes a habit of lying is rightly suspicious of other people lying to them. Makes sense.

People, this company is dishonest. This company cares about holding onto your cash at whatever cost. They could care less if you shop with them again. Spend your hard-earned cash elsewhere. They don't deserve any business. Give other companies who understand what good customer service is all about your business. Teach them a lesson. I for one will never shop at this place again. Oh yeah, I have to - I have a store credit with these lying dingbats...darn!
