I ordered the ASUS dual XEON PC-DL deluxe motherboard at www.compu-terra.com
There price was $184.99. After I had placed the order, the next day I received a call that the ordered board was an EOM board but for $200 I could get a retail version.
I mentioned that the website did not mention anything about that, but they did not care.
I agreed to the retail version. Although they said $200, they charged $200.21 to my Credit card. This was a little annoying, more annoying was that they shipped it one week later then promised. The total wait was 2 weeks putting me out of the 7 day return policy for the 2 XEON cpu’s which I ordered the same day at NewEgg.com.
So I see now in the other reviews below that this is common practice for this company. They let you hit the lower price during the search and then call you back for an additional higher price with the reason that they are out of stock and that an OEM product was selected.
Anyway when I received the board it was defect (DOA) This does not have to be their fault, but it was very unpleasant which they should take care of. Compu-terra told me that they do not give any service not even for 1 days, and they totally rely on the service delivered by ASUS. So I was send away at my first call.
Do not buy from them. They have no knowledge, no service and are not honest.
They did have a good price at first.
Read the rest of the story I placed at the ASUS reviews.

"I ordered a motherboard/CPU combo from this company... The same day I ordered, they asked if I would like to upgrade from the OEM version to the retail version, and they also told me that they were out of stock on the OEM version. So, I said sure, why not, since I would get the backplane and cables and whatnot as well that way. I just received the board a few days ago, and it is not even the board I ordered. I ordered the FIC AU13, which has the nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset; however, I received a Syntax SV400, which has a VIA KT400 chipset. I am left wondering if I want to fight with them more and try to get what I actually ordered, or if I should just take it and move on. I will *never* order from them again."
"I ordered a motherboard from them on 12/27/2004, it finally arrived on 1/13/2005. I waited and waited and never recieved any emails of it shipping so I email them. They never responded to the email, so I talked to their online customer support, that person lied to me and told me it shipped that day (two weeks later) and I waited a week and it never arrived so I called and talked to someone and they said it was on backorder and that it was going to arrive the next day and then they would ship it out. I called the next day and the motherboard had arrived but it was 4:00PM and they still hadn't shipped it out. Finally after I got off the phone with them they shipped it and it arrived. NOT GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICES!"
"They called me back and wanted to upsell me to a retail box for $20. I thought I was getting a retail box. He told me it did not say retail box on the site, but it did not say OEM anywhere either. Also just send me what I ordered dont upsell me. They were nice and worked with me to make me happy, but it was to late. I felt dirty dealing with the whole thing and I canceled the order. I paid $10 more for a retail box MB from newegg and I know that they will be there for me if needed in the future. If a company wants to make it in this competitive industry, customer service is number one, that is how you get return customers. I have learned a lot from this company and for that I thank them, I will only deal with known and proven resellers for now on."
"Ordered FIC AU13 2200xp processor. Called to upgrade to retail box motherboard. Wanted bundled software with retail box. Also ordered 512 3200 micron memory. Additional $115 total. Recieved bulk MB, no software. Threw in a set of cables which must qualify as "retail box". Recieved 512 3200 Kingston valu-ram, not micron.(told it was better.)Haven't installed it yet, so I might not be done. Planned on upgrading videocard and hard drive(also need dvd) Not going back to 7-bytes(also known as compu-terra.)"
"STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! 7Bytes, AKA Compu-Terra.
I found and ordered a Sony DVD±RW drive for an awesome price from these guys on the 13th of Nov. On the 15th I received an email from them asking if I wanted to pay an extra 7 bucks for software and the screws for the drive and I replied, "no." They sent back an email saying, "OK," so I figured everything was going well.
I tried to call them on the 17th to find out the status of my order but the customer service telephone line immediately connects to a recording. I wrote an email to inquire as to my order but no word from 7Bytes. A little later I received an email from my PayPal account telling me that Compu-Terra refunded my money because the item is out of stock. No explanation or courtesy email from 7Bytes to let me know what was going on. It seems that my refusing to pay the extra 7 bucks for stuff I didn't need changed their minds about selling to me. That's fine, I'll take my business to Newegg or someone else just as reliable. I've had nothing but great purchases from Newegg in the last 3 years.
I'm a computer tech for the Army and I've made thousands of dollars in online purchases in the last few years. I have been ripped off only a couple of times in the past and 7Bytes displays the type of treatment toward customers as the companies who have ripped me off."
"the old bait and switch. i had to place 3 toll calls to "confirm" the order. in the end, they didn't have the oem cd-r advertised on pricewatch and tried to sell me a more expensive retail box. phone rep was arab or something and didn't seem to understand that i did not want to upgrade my order. finally cancelled."

Oct 19, 2004 11:36AM: Sent to Warehouse

Received a voice mail from a Compu-terra rep on my order (1 week after order date!) The call was a ruse to extort additional monies from me. The rep (from a company based in India) informed me that the item ordered was an OEM mother board and that additional $5.10 was needed for a retail box.
The Compu-terra rep was hard to understand and a long distance call was required to get this order moving. I ordered from this company as they were in Ohio, just one state away and UPS overnight range. From start to finish this order took !14! days. UNACCEPTABLE"

"this store screwed me bigtime. I purchased a Lite-on 16x DVD-ROM, and I recieved a generic CD-ROM (that didn't even work) packaged with "Office 20003", a bogus ripoff of MSFT office that had spyware on it. When I tried to get the correct product, I never recieved any response whatsoever aside from "We shipped the correct product". I dropped the issue because I had only paid around 35 dollars for it, and it wasn't worth the trouble."
"item arrived faster than expected and product was as advertised! thanks."
"i found this company on the internet through pricewatc. i was looking for a hard drive. they had the lowest price hard drive, then i found out i donot live that far from the store i went there, bought the hard drive at a good price, i went back bought memory, new processor, i was pleased with the service, and i plan on going back again"
"This is not the first time I buy from this store and what I can say about them is that they are very serious in the business. All my orders was processed and shipped same day ordered. The Items arrived as described and the packaging was very good."
"the board I initially ordered was out of stock, I got a friendly phone call from the vendor. they came up with another board (neat trick btw I'm still using SDRAM) for just 2 dollars more, and it had video and lan onboard. Shipping took 2 days on a 3 day package, once again, thanks for your support."
"They screwed up my order! I ordered a 200 G hard drive and mounting screws. I got an 80 G hard drive and no mounting screws (theere was no invoice in the package i received). The customer support I called issued me an RMA #XXXXXX. The next day, I get an email referring to XXXXXX and addressed to a totally different person. It was an order placed for a Motherboard!!. I call them back to report this and was asked to ignore the email. The item was sent back by US priority mail on 4/26/2004 and was delivered on 4/28/2004 (I have receipts to prove this). Called support on 4/30/2004 and I was told to wait for a couple of days for them to process my RMA. If this is the way they do business, I would recommend everyone to stay away from them. "
