"On February 26th I ordered from Geeks.com an Intel SR1425BK1 rack-mount server for $369.99. I ordered several accessories for the unit (rails, PCI-Express riser card etc) from different vendors totaling $150.00.
The machine is to be used as an asterisk PBX so I had a PCI-Express 1x T1 telephony card for it. It is essential that I get a server with a PCI-Express slot.
Upon the arrival of the unit, I opened it up and prepared to install the T1 card. I boggled as I couldn't find the slot. It was all PCI and PCI-X. looked at the unit, at the documentation and ultimately at the box it came in. All sourced agreed that it was an SR1475, a different machine than what I ordered. A few quick searches online and a few moments with (the exceptionally prompt and knowledgeable) Intel service department confirmed that the unit did not have a PCI-Express slot and was not the unit I ordered.
I called Geeks.com's support line and sat on hold for 15 minutes before the line rang and promptly hung up on me. I believe their system just drops calls after 15 minutes. Later behavior confirms this as many times (and I have been calling many times) a person would pickup and ask me to continue holding, sometimes without waiting for an answer from me.
Finally, I reach someone who doesn't immediately ask me to hold and who listens to my problem. They send a replacement out promptly.
I get the replacement, but again it is the wrong unit! It says so on the box, the documentation and the server itself. I now have TWO of the wrong servers (I was still waiting for the FedEx return slip for the first one).
I call support and go through the same rigmarole and eventually speak with a guy who is less interested in sending me the correct unit and more interested in convincing me that PCI-Express and PCI-X are the same thing and sending a new server will not solve my problem. I tell him that they are not the same and that his business is not to school me in main-board connections and to get me what I ordered.
They will not send me a replacement for the replacement until the TWO original (wrong) servers are returned. So I have to wait for the return slips to get e-mailed (which is not instantaneous for some reason) before they send me the replacement for the replacement.
By the time we get it all sorted out and they get the second replacement sent to me three weeks have passed, the T1 circuit has been installed, a consultant is asked to wait.
The new replacement and it is THE SAME WRONG SERVER! Cripes! They certainly are consistent.
I call support, get passed between Gary, Rick, Diana, Eric, and possibly others. Rick promises to have the warehouse pull the product and confirm they don't have or that there wasn't an error in the web posting.
Three days pass. I call and ask to speak with a manager (I know I have probably let it go on too long already). I hold for a good length of time and am told I will receive a call. I don't I call the next morning the minute strike their open hours. (Interestingly enough I hold for 10 minutes at 7AM PDT). The young lady I spoke with (the same from the day before) boggled and told me she gave my message directly to her manager. She said I should receive a call back today.
It has been over a month since the when the original order was placed. In a week I will be presented with a $650 bill for the first month of service on the Voice T1... that we have not used.
I notice they took the unit down from their website.
Still no call from them. Finally I call.
They want to try for a refund rather than deal with it. I am unwilling to accept another unit unless it is compatible with the accessories I've purchased that has a PCI-Express slot. They have such a unit on their website. They cost $100 or so more. If they don't have the server I ordered, the least they could do is send one of the more expensive ones along at the cost of the one I purchased out of respect for the month I lost on a project, the embarrassment I feel in front of my superiors and our consultant and in deference to the $650 T1 bill I am compelled to pay despite not using it.
Finally, I get Eric to send me an SR1435VP2. But they make me (or my firm, really) pay the difference between their cost and the price of the unit I originally ordered, about $50 bucks.
It arrives a few days later and it is AGAIN THE WRONG UNIT!?!?! My head just exploded as the chassis and the box clearly indicate that it is an SR1400.
I sit on hold for 27 minutes before I speak with someone. During that time I poke around on intel's website that I can spend another 30 bucks to get a riser card that will endow it with a PCI-Express slot. I finally get Gary on the phone (not who I asked for) who I informed that they messed up again and they have a flaw in their warehouse, but that I was done, that I would find a way to make it work.
He was the first and only person who apologized and expressed regret for the debacle.
In the end I spent almost 250 above that I originally planned, not to mention time lost and the bill for the unused T1 circuit.
I just don't get it. My mind is blown... Oddly enough I was going to purchase 300 or so $60 MP4 players from them for my firm. $15-18K worth of business lost due to a cheap $360 server."
"Recieved computer case as expected. Product as expected."
"Order was missing an item. Merchant did not respond to e-mails I sent requesting the missing item. My credit card was charged for an item that was never shipped. Would not purchase from this merchant again."
"My FIRST order with this company, got a mobo that was missing components (AGP slot and SATA ports) in the description. Sent an email to support which went unanswered. Called their number, waited on hold forever, talked to two different departments & got switched to tech support, where I got a message that they were closed for the day. (40-some minutes on the phone)
Called back next day, got a person, got an RMA number PLUS a Fedex 'call tag,' very nice. Shipped back the board, got a replacement that was NO different. Evidently nobody bothered to check the replacements going out.
Called again, waited 20-some minutes on hold, got disgusted and hung up.
Meanwhile placed a second order for four items, some nifty-looking stuff, and the order came in with one item wrong. $10 item, so I had no desire to call after previous experience.
I will certainly not ever do business with these people again. Let's hope that mobo actually works so I can do SOMEthing with it."
"order was processed in a timely manner. prices a very reasonable. most sites are higher. shipping could be more reasonable."
"The RMA process was handled quickly and easily. I will be receiving the new product within a week."

"I had a problem with a newly purchased item, and I was treated with respect and given a quick and very fair result. I will definitely purchase future electronic items from them. It is nice to be able to deal with telephone support and understand what they say. Their prices seem very reasonable too."
"Shipping was a bit slow. I had an issue with understanding of the installation instructions. Guy was very courteous and helpful. One short call and problem solved. Very professional."
"I was not happy with the rechargeable mouse. The battery did not last after recharge.
The delivery time was fine.
Thanks,
Geri Borns"
"ordering was easy but when it got to me it was DOA I sent an email and never got responce finally called and they gave me an RMA. Sent the motherboard back I went online and saw they got it and it tested bad waited 5 days and no update so called again and was told they were out and waiting for one to come in but I could select another and it would be sent out the next day. Four days later and still waiting and wondering how long would they have waited for another to come in. This one makes the second order in a row to come in DOA."
"I had ordered three items, BTW dogle's from Geek and they were delivered in good time. I was charged only for one item cost to ship. Some other company's charge per item, although ship in same container. I tried out two items so far and they work fine. I'm sure the other will work, and if not I'm also sure they would replace it. I also email them to thank them, and the respond quickly to my email, I like that, that shows interest.
thank you Andrew"
"Excellent customer service, AWESOME. I recommend buying from geeks.com. Thanks"
"Ordered 3 laptops and 3 laptop essential kits. Of the 3 kits 2 of the mice did not work right. Geeks made good on their word, sent 2 new mice. Later the cable on one of the cooling pads did not work, again Geeks made good and is sending me a whole new pad and cable. Had previously ordered from them years ago and was also satisfied with their service. They will keep me as a customer. Always good on price and service."
