"Power supply and shroud fan both failed after 11 months. Dell tech support (in India) has said they will ship the parts. It has been 4.5 weeks and still no parts. They keep giving me the runaround. I have had no computer for over a month! And to think the system cost $3000. I have influenced over 100 dell purchases in the last 4 years. I can assure you that it will never happen again. Dell was know for their excellent customer support. Now it nearly gives me a stroke!"
"Ordered a notebook (640m) system from the Small Business Segment on 06/07/07, with estimated ship date of 06/14/07.
Received an email on 06/14/07 indicating that the estimated ship date slipped to 06/21/07!
Earlier, I was considering cancelling the order in view of a more attractive E1505 system offer by the Home/Office Segment but decided to keep the Small Business order in big part because of the earlier ship date.
I'm now left feeling bad about this purchase with Dell. :("
"Having bought both computers and digital cameras and equipment from them, I have practically no complaints. Once I bought a lens that was supposed to include a lens hood. When the lens didn't arrive with the hood, they had me return it and shipped another. When that also didn't include the hood, I called their customer service, explained the situation, and offered a solution of crediting my account by $40, which they did without hesitation. No complaints."
"I ordered a mouse from Dell on the morning of 20 September. It arrived on 21 September. The packaging wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't a terribly fragile object, and it was in the retail box.
The truly impressive thing about this was that I asked for 3-5 day ground shipping, which cost me $1.10. Too, Dell's base price for the mouse was nearly the lowest available."
"I ordered a pc and laptop computer from dell on 09/04/05. Dell instructed me to mail a check for $3057.57 to an address in Richardson, Tx. My check was cashed on 09/09/05. Dell has no record of me or my check. I have called countless times and get hung up on, transfered and just plain lied to about the situation. India does not are about my money. I have tried to contact the corp. office, but all numbers link me back to India. What can I do. Does anyone have dell's corp office phone numbers? Please I am desperate. Any suggestions???"
"A friend of mine asked me to help him buy a desktop system and I recommended Dell. I had good experience with Dell over 6 years ago, but I now regretted that I recommended him to purchase the system from Dell. I noticed now Dell no longer live up to their credibility as one of the top 10 computer suppliers. Just like any other computer suppliers with poor rating, Dell learned to play games with consumers who knows nothing about computers. They are very pushy and will try to persuade consumers to upgrade and of course spend more money. The system my friend bought came with a free printer and the sales rep said the ink cartridge will last only 10-15 days (unheard of) and suggested to upgrade it for $30 more. Also, the system doesn't come with a floppy drive, it will cost $30 more to upgrade. I told him you can get one for $15 from a local computer store. As myself, a PC technician & an inspector, I inspected the system my friend received from Dell, I noticed the computer case is poorly designed. The front cover fell off after trying to remove the system from the package. When I tried to put the cover back in, it doesn't securely locked in. The cover can be easily removed by children. The system has no 3.5" bay where you can install a floppy drive. Of course if you want a floppy drive you have to buy it from Dell specifically designed for Dell systems. I built over 25 systems and noticed that all systems were built with universal floppy drive bay. If you're intending to purchase a system from Dell because you think their price is good, trust me you will be very disappointed."
"Placed an order online with Dell for an Olympus D-595 digital camera. Used some coupon codes to discount the price and the shipping was fast. It showed up at my door on Wednesday. "
"I ordered a new Dell Inspiron 9300, fairly maxxed out. But, and I still cannot believe it even after knowing it for a week now, DELL NOTEBOOKS DO NOT COME WITH BUILT-IN MICROPHONES making them very unsuitable for voice chat or telephony (unless you want to carry around and connect a headset with your notebook everywhere in case you want to say a few words).
Also, thei return policy is NOT as many (myself included--blast!) thought, 30-days money back, it's 21-days partial money back.
This was a disastrous purchase--Dell's engineering flaws combined with their effective deception about them were then compounded by my ignorance of the return period. I'll be regretting my purchase of a Dell for years to come, I fear."
"First time buyer. Pretty big name. Terrible technical support. Terrible product (Inspiron XPS), unable to get an ongoing issue resolved in more than 2 weeks already. Had replaced multiple parts on my system already by dell technichian that knows less than me. Tech support located in India and representatives do not even have last names!!!. unable to reach anyone in corporate office, no answer!!! Do not buy from Dell"
"Ordered a Creative Labs Muvo MP3 player from Dell. Item came packaged well, and delivery was prompt. "
"I purchased this monitor because Dell's website claims Dell-branded monitors undergo exhaustive testing for performance, reliability, durability and compatibility with Dell systems and are designed to their exacting quality standards and meet or exceed relevant industry standards.
I would have given this monitor an average rating, since I may just have a defective one, but I have to give it a poor rating because of the worthless customer service support. The 19 inch flat screen is very nice. Brightness, contrast, color and geometry are good however the picture looks slightly grainy. It's as if you can see the space between each individual pixel so instead of seeing a smooth picture, you see a screen full of dots.
The problem with my monitor is that after a couple of months, I discovered that the right half of the screen shakes up and down. At a resolution of 1024x768 it is barely noticeable. However, the higher up in resolution you go, the more the right half of the picture shakes up and down. This may have been a problem since day one but since I didn't try higher resolutions until having the monitor for a couple of months, I'm not sure.
I went to the Dell website to see about getting an RMA number in order to return the monitor under warranty for repair. Dell goes to great lengths to hide any real form or customer support on their website. After clicking on many links and not getting the info I was looking for, I finally attempted to contact customer support through Dell's website contact form. However, before you can submit the form, you are required to enter a service tag number from your Dell product. The website tells you where to find the service tag but conveniently leaves off any info about finding it on a monitor. You also have the option of getting it from your account, or past order info, but when you attempt to do this you receive an "Unable to determine your service tag" message. Perhaps monitors don't have this service tag but since it is required to use the online contact form, you may as well forget about using that method of contact. I then used the website's online chat to speak with a customer service rep. I didn't ask for an RMA number but simply asked how I would go about obtaining one. The customer service rep said she couldn't help me and told me to call a number. I attempted to respond but the customer service rep immediately terminated the chat session.
Based on my experience, I don't feel this was just an unfortunate series of events but instead a deliberate attempt by Dell to avoid supporting their products. Because of this, I am afraid to send my monitor back for repair. Dell has the option of sending me back a used one, rather than repairing and returning mine, and I feel I may get one back that is worse than the one I have. "
"Purchased a 7800GT and a 25-pack CDRs. I ordered on a Friday and got my stuff on Wed the next week. Not bad considering it was the first week of the 7800GT's release. Everything went as you would expect, timely shipping and good prices after coupons and discounts."
"I bought a desktop computer from Dell Home last year, which broke about seven months after I bought it. I think it burned out or something due to bad ventilation. I was pleasantly surprised when I called Dell and they honored the one-year limited warranty. They actually set up an appointment for a technician to visit my home! The technician came, changed my motherboard and power source and it cost me nothing. Dell really stands behind its products. I just hope the computer doesn't break again because my warranty is now out."
"I have ordered an Inspiron 6000D from Dell and received it with prompt shipping. I was very satisfied with the product and especially their service. "
"INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING!!
I ordered an Axim X50v through a killer sale (multiple coupons/discounts).
Order placed 7/27. Estimated ship date of 7/29.
On 7/29 I received an email stating it was delayed until 8/5. On 8/5, email delaying until 8/12. 8/12? Yup, you guessed it. Delayed until 8/19.
Since it was obvious by that point Dell didn't know when it would ship any better than I, I complained.
After complaining I got a free upgrade to overnight shipping PLUS a $50 coupon for future use.
Was it annoying, HECK YES!! However, I got a great PDA at an AMAZING price plus free overnight shipping and an extra $50 shopping spree. In the end it was worth it, but it was a PAINFUL wait.
Oh, it finally shipped on 8/18 and I received it on 8/19."
