"Dell? I thought I was buying from a trusted source, I wish I came here first to read all the poor ratings. Do NOT buy from Dell, no matter how many coupons and how cheap the price. I ordered a Canon lense 2 months ago that was supposedly in stock. Then it was backordered and I was given a new ship date. That happened three more times and guess what, still no product, 2 months later. I've seen this product come and go in other stores, from out of stock, to in-stock, to out-of-stock again. Customer Service is horrible. Representatives barely speak English, this will be part of the downfall of Dell. I am now trying to find out if I'm actually going to receive the product on my new ship date, as I have a project that requires it. They can't even answer me yes or no. It's 2 days away, either they have the product, they don't, or it's coming to them. I just want an answer so I can move on and get this elsewhere... so that's what I'm doing, going elsewhere and I recommend you do the same. Thanks for listening to the rant..."
"Got a great deal on a Dell 20in LCD (the 2001fp). It arrived quicky, well packed, and in great condition. The LCD monitor is crystal clear, with no defects, and works well with Linux."
"dell computers very good service good except the problem of getting to talk to people on the phone cost me a fortune using moblies to wait for someone to talk to not just dell problem."
"got screwed by dell like everyone else
you know drill:
place the order
wait.. wait.. receive no product, no emails
check order status, one month delay
call dell and get bounced around for a couple of hours on the phone
get dell's famous "customer service" with the attitude
finally get someone who can help you just to tell you you have to wait another month.. even though the product was in stock when I placed the order.
Go buy from someone else.. the $10 or $20 you save isn't worth the few hours that you'll need to spend on the phone to cancel."
"I bought Canon SD500 digital camera from Dell since they had the best price using couple coupon codes. However, they do not have the product to ship. They sent me order delayed notification three times. So, they do tell you what went on, but do not expect to get your order within a reasonable time (1 week). They do not normally have non-Dell products that they are selling. They shipped out their computers pretty fast. Do not buy non-Dell products from them unless you have time to burn."
"Wanted to tell you that I recently ordered something from Dell. I found the customer service to be very good. The benefit of ordering from Dell is that you can call and order from a real person. The guy I talked to was named Brian who was very courteous and took care of all of the details to my satisfaction. I would definitely order from Dell again. Delivery of the product I ordered was very fast, faster than they had promised."
"I ordered a CANON EOS Digital Rebel XT (black) on April 8, 2005.
DELL was supposed to ship it on April 25, 2005.
They delayed it three times first to May 5 then to May 12 and then again to May 16.
I called DELL several times and sent them several e-mails. One call resulted in free shipping.
But I got transferred around several times and often my calls were dropped.
I finally received the camera on May 19.
But I found that the battery would discharge in few hours or after 20 shots.
I tried calling DELL and was transferred around several times. Finally I received an e-Mail to contact CANON customer service.
CANON finally fixed the camera.
DELL customer service is the W O R S T online customer service I have ever experienced. Long wait times and calls dropped.
If you can avoid DELL please do. Some of their prices are great but the frustration of dealing with an incompetent call center staff that they call "Customer service" (I call customer dis-service) is horrifying.

"I order from the internet all the time, and this is the worst experience I've ever had. Their "customer service" reps are rude and can barely speak English. When I asked for a manager, she told me she was it. She said there were others there that also "deal with escalations" but that they were all equal. She would not forward me to a supervisor and informed me I would have to pay for shipping to return the product. I will NEVER give them another sale, and will gladly pay the shipping charge to ensure they do not make a dime off of me. They have too many competitors that know the meaning of customer service. "
"I found a 25% off online coupon and combined it with an additional $60 off discount. That made the price break from $549 to $351 for the camcorder I bought, a Canon Elura 80. And it also shipped free. The shipping process was fast, and the camera arrived just after two days."
"I ordered the 2005FPW LCD monitor on Sunday the 22nd, though I got an e-mail later that day that my credit card company had denied the charge. So on Monday I called Dell support and had them bill it to my other card, and then it was shipped out and in my hands on Thursday the 26th. Amazingly quick! The monitor was completely free of dead pixels or backlight problems, and through coupons I had snagged it for $397!
Dell has a really low rating here, but if you actually take the time to read them, you see people generally have no trouble getting the Dell products they order -- it's only when they order someone else's products through Dell that they have trouble. Therefore, DO NOT ORDER NON-DELL PRODUCTS FROM DELL. GO TO NEWEGG OR SOMEWHERE ELSE.
The problem seems to rarely be with Dell, but rather with the shipper they use. Dell products are shipped through UPS, a reliable carrier. Non-Dell products are all shipped through DHL, a very cheap you-get-what-you-pay-for carrier. Nearly all other retailers use UPS or FedEx, so definitely do not buy a camera or memory or whatever through Dell, regardless of what coupons you see."
" I ordered the Canon Rebel XT DSLR camera from Dell.com on May 13, 2005. I used the 15% off coupon that was active at the time of my order, which gave me $150 off, and along with it I ordered a memory card for the camera, which I received a few days after the order.
The camera however was not supposed to be shipped until May 31. On May 20, Dell reported that the camera had shipped, but on May 28 I had still not recieved the camera. I emailed Dell's customer service dept., and was told that DHL must have lost the package.
DHL however, never received any information about the shipment, and the tracking number given by the Dell website was invalid. So Dell never even tried to ship the package, as DHL would report the last known location of the package, or atleast that there was a shipment reservation made, but there wasn't.
I was also offered a $100 coupon to make up for, what they claimed, was DHL's mistake, which does not even cover the coupon I had originally used.
I had noticed something that I thought was strange when I read the email from customer service, and that was that they could not send a replacement, although it did not elaborate. I checked Dell's website to see if they still offered the camera, and they did not. This leads me to believe that they never had any intention of shipping the camera, and that they had no intention of refunding my money without my intervention. If this is true, then it is absolutely appaling, and completely unacceptable, so I will give them the benifit of the doubt, although I will still never place another order from Dell again."
"DO NOT USE THEIR FINANCIAL SERVICES. THEY ARE THE MOST INCOMPETANT COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. BUY A GATEWAY SAVE YOURSELF A LIFETIME OF HEADACHES!!!! THEY ALSO NEVER HAVE ANY OF THE PERIPHERALS IN STOCK THAT THEY ARE SELLING AT TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE PRICES."
"I ordered a XPS Gen2 Laptop with all the bells and whistles and couldnt wait for it to be shipped next day ( which I paid for). Well after reading the invoice they had changed the ship date from this week to a week later, no big deal... I called them up and they gave me the shipping for free and a $100 coupon code to use at their online store. Great I thought.... these people are just great.
The laptop arrived & it was great. A week later I wanted to buy a backpack for my laptop, so I called them up and a technician helped me chose the correct model. Well he sent me the wrong backapck, and I called up and they told me to keep the backpack and gave me another $100 coupon to use on a different case. I was then transferred to 15 different people WITHOUT getting the correct piece, this was over about 4 hours time.
Dell's laptops are as high end as I could find anywhere. XPS Gen 2 I ordered had a 2.13 centrino, 1 gig ddr2 ram, Geforce 6800 256MB card, 60 gig 7200RPM serial ata HDD, 17" screen and a DVD/crdw drive too. The machine came loaded with a ton of crap I would never use so I wiped it out and did a fresh install of Win XP Pro, which was no problem at all but time consuming getting all of the correct "dell" drivers off the web. Their packaging is great too, the laptop camp boxed inside another box lined with foam and worked perfectly. Their customer support is all handled in India, the people have great training and are very polite. Customer service needs to be taught what extensions to transfer the numbers to tho, I am at the point where I was going to return the laptop if they could not get me the correct bag. VERY FRUSTRATING TO DEAL WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SUPPORT."
"Dell was having a sale on their 2005fpw 20 inch lcd display for more than 50% off.
I ordered it on saturaday and it was delivered on thrusday using regular shipping.
I sent an email to them on tuesday and asked what was taking them so long to ship the order. The reply was professional and fast and they explained to me that they were currently boxing my monitor. When i recieved the monitor and I opened it, it was in perfect condition, no dead pixels or any other problems plauging other people who complain. The reason is, people only come on to sites to complain about problems. Remember, dell is a fortune 500 company for a reason, they provide good customer service. Don't worry to buy from dell, they are very good to deal with."
"One of three items -- a DVD drive -- did not get delivered at all even though the shipper shows it to be delivered.
First problem I have ever had with Dell.
Customer Service was very good; shipping out another drive -- no argument at all.
