"I bought a pair of logitech z-560 speakers after reading all the rave reviews on the internet. Ordered on 9/16. Came on 9/19. Best price I could find on the internet with a 10% off coupon and free shipping! Works like a charm. I wouldnt hesitate to buy from Dell again."
"I have ordered many items from dell and have never had problems with my orders. They almost always ship out my items the same day that I place my order. The one time I returned an item for a refund, they provided a shipping label for return shipping. These guys are the best...if you are a dumba$$ and need tech support, be a little more resourceful and find the answers to your problems from usenet..."
"They changed order from confirmation to invoice, did not include wireless keyboard or Office Pro CD or certificate of authencity, and keep insisting that their inability to put a CD in a shipping carton is a "technical problem""
"I placed an order online for a 19 inch planar monitor because Dell had the best price and had free shipping. As soon as I submitted the order the free shipping offer disappeared but the monitor was still a good price so I place the order anyway. The monitor was suppose to ship on 9/10 but I recieved an email today telling me the order would now ship on 9/19 which was totally unacceptable so I called to cancel my order...it took almost 3 hrs. to talk to a live person! As for as I'm concerned it's not worth the hassle buying from Dell."
"Ordered the same Dell SC400 3.2 Ghz Dell server. recieved confirmation wihtin 15 minutes (11PM Thursday night). Monday status said was in production. Tuesday(today) shows status as shipped out. I am impressed with how quickly they did all of this. I have bought a comp from an Etailer before and didn't see any move for weeks. I am stunned how people canget so upset over their choice not to pricematch. I don't think 1/2 of the Etailers on Pricewatch pricematch. Nor do any large comp makers (like HP). Overall I am impressed with their service. I did call inquiring about my order on Friday morning. For Dell home, I spoke to their "Indian" rep. she was courteous and spoke perfect English. Being a Dell business order she transferred me to someone who was American. obviously, I have not recieved the order yet. But my experience has been positive. "
"After ordering 2 3.2ghz dell servers for my home-business at a screaming deal. All goes well, website was easy to navigate, good pricing, was submitted and awaiting confirmation within 15 minutes. Well i get this for my first email.
9/5/2003 (Order Placed on 9/5/2003)
Thank you for your on-line order with Dell. While processing your order, we
were unable to obtain credit card authorization from your bank for this
purchase.
So i call my CC company and verify that the card is working properly and that i have enough credit. So i email dell back, using my wifes card (same credit acct, just a different card with a diff expiration date).
2 DAYS later i get this.
Hi Mr.Derek,
Please provide us the CID # of your Discover card,so that we could place
your order.Or Please contact us at the number listed below. Sales
Representatives are available to provide you with further assistance
from 7am to 8pm CST Monday through Friday.
***-***-****.EXT:61843
I give them the CID in another email. And i get a 3rd email from dell stating that there was a problem with my card. I call Discover again, they tried to charge the full non-sale price for the machines because the sale was now over. I cancelled the order for the machines via email, and am awaiting reply."
"great price on lite-on dvd-r/+rw or whatever drive. shipped AMAZINGLY fast and everything worked great. dell=awesome. i have never had a problem with them."
"Horrible, horrible, horrible! Do not buy from Dell, their service is awful! I have placed an order for 10 Inspiron 1100 notebooks that they advertise very cheap. They cancelled my online order without any reason and without letting me know why. It is impossible to get a hold of anybody in sales or customer service. They don't honor their pricing and we can only guess why the promote the offer so low prices... "
"I will make this short and sweet. Have purchased from Dell before and was very satisfied. This time.....invoice overcharge of $186 (have gotten them to agree to a $165 credit-will it show up?), told was approved for the promotional 90 days same as cash, only to find out by accident that that was not true (though our credit is excellent and it took me 10 minutes to find someone to transfer the balance to). I was lied to/misinformed by their sales force and it takes HOURS to try and untangle their errors. ABSOLUTELY WILL NEVER BUY A DELL AGAIN. I now classify Dell in the same category as car salesment (Buyer Beware)"
"Very lousy service. They charged my account without ever shipping a product to me! They delayed my order from the original ship date. I was like, ok, I can accept that. However they have just sent me another delay of shipment so I'm rather fed up with them at the moment and am simply canceling my order!"
"Ordered a memory stick from Dell's website. The site doesn't show the item to be out of stock until AFTER you've placed the order. Dell's website doesn't allow you to cancel the order. After two days of emailing customer support, they give me a 1-800 number to call and cancel the order. I call the number...estimated wait time, 28 minutes.
The order was cancelled by what a pain! I guess it takes awhile to transfer calls to India. "
"Don't buy DELL if you, don't like:
1. waiting for hours on end for tech support.
2. Getting technical support from Indian Nationals, no not Cherokee, its INDIA..were people speak Punjab or whatever. They make ENGLISH sound like a foreign language.
3. My computer crashed 8/18/03 and there has been no reasonable response.
I strongly advice against buying this brand. THEY WASTE MONEY ON BIG ADS . THEIR SERVICE IS UNTIMELY AND THE RESPONSE TIME INSULTS YOUR INTELLIGENCE. IN MY OPINION THE THOUGHT OF GETTING TECHNICAL SUPPORT FROM INDIA SOUNDS PATENTLY UNPATRIOTIC. I BOUGHT DELL BECAUSE IT IS MADE IN TENNESSEE, USA. I LOVE TENNESSEE, I ASSUMED THE BASE OF OPERATION WOULD BE IN THIS GENTLE SOUTHERN STATES. I FELT ABSOLUTELY DECEIVED BY THIS COMPANY. BUYER BEWARE...IF YOU ARE SMART CHECK OUT ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS, NOTE IAM NOT ALONE...BE NOT ONE TO FOLLOW OUR PATH..."
"After looking around the net and stores for the best deal on my Nikon camera, I decided that I would go with Dell since they were a big company and I thought it was reliable enough. Boy was I wrong. After completing my purchase with Dell, I saw that New Egg had the same camera for $50 less then what Dell had it for. They were not as big as Dell was but the ratings on this company was through the roof. But being stubborn as I am, I still wanted to stick with the Big Company.
So I called Dell back and after holding for about 15 minutes I got through to the customer service. I had asked if they would match prices and was told they do except that he would have to transfer me to the sales department, which was no problem. After being transferred to their sales and on hold for another 15 minutes (so far that’s ½ an hour) a voice came on and said that they were now closed. Still not wanting to give Dell a chance, I called back the next day. Again, after holding for another 20 minutes (50 minutes all together now) I was told again that they do match prices but I had to wait till I received the package before they will make the price adjustment. Not thinking I agreed and got the person’s email address so that she would know what we had talked about.
After hanging up, I thought about it and decided that I didn’t want to take a chance that New Egg would change their prices (which they didn’t, it’s their normal pricing) I called back yet again and this time waited about 30 minutes for the sales (so far 1 hour and 20 minutes) and yet told again that yes they do match prices, but they would have to transfer me to their ONLINE sales department and they will take care of me. Off I go to ONLINE sales and waited another 15 minutes (1 hour and 35 minutes in two days so far). When I got through, I was told NO THEY DO NOT MATCH PRICES. WTF???
After explaining the situation to them including mentioning all the customer service/sales person’s names that had told me that they do match prices I asked for the manager (Chris, they would not give me their last names, said it was company policy. I thought that was strange). Went through the same with him and was told straight out that if I found a lower price to go to that store. After spending another 10 minutes trying to reason with him, I figured out that it’s not going to help. So I told him to cancel my order and after it was confirmed my order was cancelled, I went to New Egg and bought the same camera (2 day free shipping Awesome!!!).
You think that was the end??? Guess again 9 days later a package showed up at my door from, you guessed it, DELL(by the way they had just left it at my door without knocking or requiring any signature). After having them confirm the order was cancelled, it was still delivered. Being the honest person that I am, I called dell again. On hold this time for about 20 minutes for their customer service. They were ready to return the product without a quibble though.
However I still had to spend another 30 minutes on the phone with this person because their computers didn’t work (aren’t they a computer company?? Makes you wonder what their products are like doesn’t it?) So finally I was issued a return number. So all in all I spent about 2 ½ hours in a all together 3 day span. I WILL NEVER BY FROM THEM AGAIN!!!! The long wait times plus their computer problems (how ironic) and VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE makes you wonder how they ever survived. After reading some of the other reviews, I now know I wasn’t alone!

"Dell spends mucho bucks on advertising, so you think they'd be good to buy from --WRONG!!!! First of all, when I called them, the person who took my call was located in India !! English was not his strong suit. Then, when I tried to get him to give me a price, he was all over the map with different figures. When I got a good price and free shipping, I figured, what the heck and placed the order. BAD IDEA !! It took two days for the order to process, then they used "Airbourne Express" to ship -- stupid company. My order has been sitting at the local airport(20 miles away) for two days waiting to be delivered. But I can't pick it up myself. Don't deal with DELL -- it's a mistake."
"This is an excerpt from a customer complaint letter sent to DELL. It describes the miserable experience at DELL. I will never buy a single thing from DELL again.
I ordered a digital camera, a case and compact flash card from Dell last Thursday. The Dell website indicated, on Friday, that the camera and case would be delivered today. The card is supposed to be delivered in early September. Because I was due to go on a business trip, I arranged to retrieve the camera and case from the shipper, Airborne Express this morning.
At 8 AM, I received a carton from Dell which contained the case but no camera. For the last seven hours, I have been attempting to navigate through that miserable, diabolical, anti-customer service telephone tree system that Dell uses. That alone would motivate me never again to purchase anything from Dell. The choices simply do not capture the variety of possibilities and there is virtually no way to address a human being. It is like being caught in an endless silly fun-house game.
Far worse is the actual customer service when one can actually reach a customer service representative. All of them seem to have the experience and intelligence of the three interns featured in your advertisements who lose themselves trying to determine a strategy for Dell.
Based upon my experience, the Dell reputation for service is undeserved.
I thoroughly dislike dealing with Dell and will describe my experience to my friends, co-workers and business contacts. A simple order should not require hours of customer dis-service to track an order through legions of under-trained and indifferent people.
