I ordered my laptop on Monday evening, and to my surprise was told it would ship the next. Two days later I get an email telling me Chembook was out of corsair ram, but my laptop should ship by Friday. I asked them to upgrade my shipping from Free shipping to 3-day, but the laptop actually shipped out Thursday night instead of Friday, so they could not change my shipping type. "I purchased a 3790 notebook on the 6th of October through Discount Laptops. I live in the Bahamas recently, needed my notebook shipped to Miami, and I was using a Canadian Credit Card for verification. A fairly complicated purchasing situation. Thanks to Matt Richards quick responses and help we were able to sort the situation out quickly. In a matter of 2 days after the order the notebook had been sent. And it arrived in Miami on schedule. I have yet to receive the notebook only because I have not gone to Miami to pick it up, so not sure if I am totally satisfied yet. Emails were sent to me at each stage of the order, shipping, and payment process and my laptop arrived right on time and was packaged well. I especially appreciated the cash discount I received by using their "Secured Cash Payment" option.
The model i chose was in very high demand and was often on back order during the time I was considering it. Unlike some other vendors DiscountLaptops constantly kept their website up to date with the latest availability info and I was able to know when the product became available again.
My only complaint (and it's minor) would be that the DiscountLaptop site will only allow you to place an online order if you use Internet Explorer as a browser. Since I run linux exclusively at home I had to place my order from work which was a minor hassle. DL, please allow other browsers, especially in light of all the security problems with IE!

"I shopped around quite a bit for a notebook. I'm a developer, so I care quite a bit about the quality of hardware and the performance of any laptop I buy. For this laptop purchase, I wanted to get a high quality system that was made by one of the ODM (original design manufacturers--these are the companies that ACTUALLY manufacture the notebooks for all the big name resellers such as Dell, Toshiba, IBM, HP, and Sony) companies. There were 2 reasons I wanted to buy from an ODM:
1. When you buy from one of the big names, you usually get very little choice about how to configure the laptop. For example, if you go to Dell, they let you add more RAM or a bigger hard drive if you want, but you can't choose WHICH hard drive, which name brand of RAM, things like that. You just don't get control over the details. And often, they put in "medium level" quality components, but not high quality components, which I wanted. The advantage of buying an ODM notebook is, many of the resellers let you configure them to your heart's content, by putting in ANY hard drive that will fit, ANY RAM that will work, etc.
2. A second reason to buy an ODM notebook is that usually the price is WAY cheaper. The notebook I bought from Discount Laptops was $600 to $800 less than comparable notebooks from Dell, Toshiba, and Sony. At the same time, even while my notebook was cheaper than name brands, it ALSO has higher quality components and better performance than similarly equipped notebooks from the big companies, because at Discount Laptops, I was able to configure it myself and put in top name brand components.
Some of the leading ODM's are Clevo, Quantum, Compal, and Asus. I finally settled on Asus, because even though they're not the largest ODM, they are known for outstanding quality in the motherboards they manufacture, and their notebooks also have a great reputation. I tracked down half a dozen online resellers that carry the Asus notebooks and put their own name label on them.
One of these resellers of Asus notebooks was Discount Laptops. They sell one of the leading Asus notebooks, the one I bought, under a U.S. company label (the company that assembles them for Discount Laptops). The unit is called the "Chembook 2060E."
The reasons I chose Discount Laptops over the other resellers were:
1. Excellent, proven service. Check out their customer reviews at Resellerratings.com, and you'll find out they have a great track record. And talk to them yourself, they're very helpful and willing to answer questions.
2. A good warranty. The unit I bought has 2 year parts/labor warranty. This is in no way inferior to the warranties supplied by the likes of Dell. You can also buy more deluxe warranties if you want, extended time periods, on-site service, and so on.
3. Great configuration options. Discount Laptops allowed you to configure the greatest number of options on the notebook. Some resellers let you configure a few items, but Discount Laptops let me twiddle with and tweak almost everything, to build my perfect laptop. If you know what you're looking for, or you have a friend who does who can help you buy your laptop, this place gives you the most choices in building your dream machine.
4. Great price. Discount Laptops had nearly the lowest price I saw for this notebook, and when you factor in the above advantages, they were the clear winner. One or two places had lower selling prices, but they either skimped on the warranty, or charged a ton for shipping, or other items. But Discount Laptops has the nice warranty standard, charges no sales tax for out of state, and currently has a free shipping special, so now's a great time to buy.
All in all, I would definitely buy from Discount Laptops again, and I would recommend them even to my non-technical friends because I trust their integrity and think they provide a great value for your money.

Before I posted an extremely positive review on my purchase experience with Discountlaptops.com. Therefore I thought it would be fair that I posted my RMA/RETURN experience with Discountlaptops.
When I decided to return the laptop -- it just wasn't for me -- I called Customer Service and talked to David who was very courteous and professional. I explained why I wanted to return the laptop and he completely understood and said "no worries." There was no badgering or hassling, the experience to get my RMA number was completely stress free. I thought this would be important to those who purchased or plan to purchase using the Cash option because that's how I paid for it.
About an hour later I received a courtesy call from someone at Discountlaptops, last name is Nguyen, who again was very professional. He kindly asked why I wanted to return it and if there was anything else they can do for me (exchange, etc.). I told them I was reconsidering buying laptops altogether, and again he said he understood and thanked me for my interest in their products. Again, stress free and no hassle.
Within 24 hours I recieved my RMA number via email. It is stated that it could take up to seven days for Discountlaptops to check my laptop and refund the money. I called twice for an update on the status of the refund and both times I talked to Shannon. She was very sincere and took the time to let me know the status of my order and was gracious in patiently answering every question I had. Today, on the sixth day of the return/refund process, I received my refund via Paypal. In my opinion this was a very fast process.
Overall I found Discountlaptops customer service to be GREAT. Everyone I spoke to from the customer service department were extremely nice and helpful. Believe me, if I ever get that urge to look into laptops again I will check out Discountlaptops. They have all-around fantastic service.

After playing with my M6Ne for about three days now, I feel I can safely offer my opinion on discountlaptops.com. Simply put, it was one of the most enjoyable and stress-free purchases I've ever had. For instance, I've never had luck with LCD's. Not putting much faith into the possibility of getting a perfect screen, I emailed discountlaptops asking he could have my LCD scanned for dead-pixels. Within half an hour I receive a reply from Matt telling me he would request a LCD scan. A familiar pattern emerged. I would email Matt with a question, and immediately I would get a thoughtful reply. One time I emailed Matt at 11:30pm and received a reply within a few minutes. The man does not sleep! :) It's some of the best customer service I've ever received.
My package came on the expected day via UPS. Everything that was supposed to get here got here (free carrying case, drivers, software, etc). The machine itself is more than I hoped for. AND NO DEAD PIXELS! THANKS MATT~!
I used the cash option and saved a nice bit of cash for later use, maybe a small wireless mouse. With the CA reverse shipping option and the cash option, you can tell discountlaptops.com really goes out of its way to save the customer some cash. I appreciated this.

"Ordered a Sager 3790 on Aug 17. Website indicated a backorder on the laptop, and was immediately notified by Matt, the owner of DL, upon ordering. I was able to get the extended warranty discount even though it had expired a few days before I ordered. Throughout the whole ordering process, and including the time before ordering, the response time to emails was amazing. Had a 1/2hr conversation through email at 2am.
After almost 2 weeks, I was notified that my laptop was shipping and was given a tracking number. After it arrived, I noticed that the extra battery I ordered was missing and let Matt know immediately. Surely enough, the battery was shipped to me next day, and arrived a week later including the labour day long weekend.
