"I ordered the Chem2056 (2.0M, 60GB 7200, 2GBRAM, etc...) a couple of days ago, and it's on back order becuase the DVDRW is on back order. Hopefully the this notebook lives up to all its reviews.

The level of service was exactly what I expected from a notebook reseller. They called to confirm the purchase, and made sure everything was in order. They also gave me an ETA on the DVDRW drive, which was acceptable for me. The price and service was the best I found online. Although I did wish they emailed me an invoice of my order for record keeping.

I'll update as soon as I get the notebook, but I doubt there'll be anything negative to report.

I recieved my Chem 2056 to my complete satisfaction. No scratches, no loose pieces, no dead pixels, battery and optical drive detached and attached perfectly, and the fan was nice and quiet when the laptop turned on. I worked in a big 5 consulting firm as a software engineer for the past three years, and I've seen many laptops come and go in everyday use (and abuse), and this laptop, in my opinion, is excellently built. It feels very durable yet light, thin, and surprisingly quiet. The LCD is well protected.

I haven't loaded up my typical setup yet, but I did install WXP Pro and the included drivers without any problems. WXP started up in a snap with the 2.0 Ghz Dothan and 2GB RAM combination. The screen resolution was exactly what I was looking for. The internal wireless 802.11 b/g worked just as expected. This laptop will be perfect for my development purposes. Discountlaptops.com has my seal of approval, and I'll be recommending them to my friends and family. Good job!"

"This is an update to my review posted on 12/03/2004. Let me just say that after I posted that initial review, I was contacted by the reseller himself, "Matt Richards". Matt was upset that my shopping experience with his company wasn't 100% "perfect". He and his colleagues, however, srtive for total customer satisfaction everyone they do business with. I would like to take this opportunity to clear up any misunderstandings I may have caused this gentleman and his company. First off, unlike other companies I've dealt with, Discount Laptops pretty much answered all the questions I had within hours (not days, or weeks) of me emailing them. I felt comfortable emailing Matt on the weekends because he replied fast during off peak hours, as well. We had a few minor misunderstandings during my purchase, but he and his company were always courteous to me and always gave me the "real deal", so that I wouldn't have any surprises with my order. Anything that the Discount Laptops staff said that they would do--they did. They broke no promises and always kept on top of my order. That's the type of customer service that people are looking for in a company. I happen to run an online business myself, so I know about customer service on the business end of things, too. I just let these people do their job and patiently waited for delivery on the product. Speaking of the product itself, the laptop is very nice, big and fast, and everything else. I purchased this machine with an interesting configuration that works for me and my business. I bought it though Matt's company because his site had great reviews, competitive pricing, flexible payment options, and a host of other reasons. Read the reviews on this company, as I did, before purchasing. Shop around, too. But, ultimately, Discount Laptops is hard to beat. My first review was entered in a rush. I was looking for a high-end laptop like an "Alien Sentia" or "Area 51m" and had to weigh my intended use and balance that with overall cost. I was shopping for a laptop to replace a failing Compaq Presario 2700US. I am taking IT classes that require an array of software applications and study materials. I am tough on laptops.
