"Hurrah for Gainsaver! I have purchased three macbooks from Gainsaver over the oast three years and they are all still going strong.
Its really wonderful to have access to discounted Macs which come with the reassurance or quality, reliable refurbishment and extended warranty.

"I had great customer service with GainSaver beginning with the time I needed some help placing the order. I received the computer I ordered quickly and aside from a sticky spot on the top it looks to be in very good shape. It was a gift for my daughter and she just received it so we haven't had a chance to find out how it works yet.

Update: After trying to get my computer to work I have had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. They have no telephone customer service, you have to submit a service request in writing. After submitting several service requests, mostly just to get more information about how my computer is configured and how to get it to connect to the internet, I have had no responses except generic information about how to return the computer. When I called to talk to the sales people they were rude and unhelpful and sent me immediately to the technical line which simply tells you how to fill out a service request online. This company is incredibly unprofessional and I would not recommend doing business with them.

"I sold my Mac Server to GainSaver and the process was really hassle free. I went online to GainSaver.com and submitted the specs for the server. I then received an email stating the price and the airbill. I shipped the server via UPS and it arrived to them in about 4 days. I received an email stating the there techs were checking it out. The next day I received another email stating my server passed all test and my check would be mailed the following Thursday. My check arrived the following Tuesday. Great Job Gainsaver I will definitely do businees again. "

"I found the GainSaver website both easy to use and informative. I was very indecisive as to what I wanted to purchase, and ordered several items that I later cancelled before completing my final order. There was no problem with canceling these orders, and no money was taken from my account until the final order.

"Possibly as a result of the poor review I entered here earlier today, Gainsaver has unceremoniously canceled the shipment of the replacement iMac which was supposed to replace the defective DOA unit they shipped on 12/13/12. They refused to refund the shipping charge for returning the defective unit to them. They said they will credit the purchase amount of the canceled order (which was charged to my card on 12/13/12) within the next 2 weeks.

Steer clear of this company. I certainly will. This was not my first order from Gainsaver, but after this treatment, it will assuredly be my last.

ORIGINAL REVIEW POSTED 12/13/2012:

Order placed 12/13/12, 1 of 2 units received was DOA out of the box. Gainsaver refused to pay shipping cost for return. Two weeks after they received the defective unit back, they still have not shipped a replacement. Impossible to get hold of anyone on the phone. All customer service contacts must be via online "Service Request" form. Good luck getting a response. I've ordered several times from Gainsaver in the past, but this experience shows they do not stand behind their products and do not provide service.

3/12/2013 update:
Gainsaver finally refunded part of my $$ to my credit card for the two DOA Macs they shipped to me, but only after I disputed the charge with the credit card bank. They did not refund the full amount even though they shipped defective units, nor did they refund the shipping costs to return the bad units which they never should have shipped in the first place.

Had I not disputed the charge with the bank, I am certain they would not have refunded a penny.

DO NOT do business with this company.

"I service and sell Apple products and I was impressed with the pricing I saw on their website for used parts. So, I figured I would give them a try. BIG MISTAKE!

I placed an order online for two MacBook Pro logic boards - 7-days later I received a well packed box with the wrong parts inside (two iMac logic boards). I called the toll-free number found on GainSaver.com to try to straighten out THEIR mistake. An automated system answers and gives you two choices; Sales or Customer Service. I chose Customer Service. That gets me another recording instructing me to go online and fill out a "request service form." - So I go back to the site, find the link to request service and am perplexed to find that there is no option for "wrong item received." None of the options given come close to what I'm there for, so I choose "OTHER" and write a very clear, very detailed description of what I had ordered - what I had received - and asked for someone to call me to avoid any more confusion.

After I submitted the form, I received an email about 3-hours later, that said, in part; "The used equipment you purchased from GainSaver is covered by a 30-day warranty, you can return it for replacement by requesting an RMA number;" - and that "products must be returned…AT THE BUYER'S EXPENSE." - WHAT? I'm expected to pay for THEIR mistake?? - Plus, I'm directed to go BACK to the site and submit yet another REQUEST for service!

By now I've had enough, but I go back to their site and try again to follow instructions - but again, the choices restrict me to options that do not fit my situation - I can only choose to return items listed on my original invoice - by part number and quantity that I ordered - NOT the items that I actually received - And the final insult - AT MY EXPENSE!

Thinking that there was no way this business would want a customer feeling so frustrated, I figured it was time to call them, again. This time I press 1, for sales. I get Steve, I explain my situation - or attempt to - he interrupted me and told me to "just go to the website and fill out the form." I started to explain that I had already done that - he began talking over me - telling me to go back and do it again!! I asked to speak to someone in customer service - he said no. I asked for a supervisor - he said he was the supervisor. I asked to be transferred to another sales representative - he refused. I finally asked to speak with ANYONE ELSE in the company - regardless of their position - at that point he abruptly transferred me to the same RECORDED prompt I had heard earlier. And get this, when I tried calling back - I could not get him - or anyone - to answer. Honestly, this man is the rudest person I have ever encountered in business.

I called American Express - explained what was going on - and they suggested that I deny payment - which I did. I then went back to the site, submitted another return request - only this time, in the "notes" field - I told them to cancel my order completely - that I had told AMEX to deny the charge - and that if they wanted the WRONG parts returned (more than a $300 value), they would need to send a pre-paid shipping label - or I would just dispose of the parts. ONLY THEN did GainSaver send me a prepaid label for the return. No phone call, no apology, no offer to try to keep my future business - just a UPS label and an RMA number. Unbelievable!

In summary, I get the impression that this is a VERY SMALL company, pretending to be larger than they actually are. I suspect Steve is more than just a very bad sales rep, I'm guessing that he is operating very close to a "one-man band" business - and has horrible people skills to boot! - Sure you can find positive reviews for them - but do what I wish I had done BEFORE placing an order - do a Google search for Steve + Gainsaver - you'll see there are many, many reasons to STAY AWAY FROM GAINSAVER.COM

"Gainsaver sent me a computer that had liquid damage to the logic board, which caused corrosion and 8 months after I purchased it, it stopped charging and started turning off interminttently. I tried to contact Gainsaver 4 times about this issue and was hung up on once, though I was very civil. I am extremely disappointed in my experience with this company."

"Good company. I am a Mac kinda gal but since I am on a teachers assistant budget, I can't buy new. I ordered from Gainsaver and got what I wanted and it came in like a day or two. The computer has worked well, but is a tad slow. I didn't buy the top of the line or anything so no biggie. The only problem was they held up some money by accidentally charging my debit card twice. I had to wait way too long for those funds to go back into my account, but I am sure this is pretty rare. Everyone I talked to was very helpful and super nice. Would definitely do business with them again."
