"My case is similar to many of the customers' cases described here: I received a non-functional device and the merchant refuses to refund shipping fees ($45 total). Looks like this is their business model: they ship a number of non-functional devices to the customers, customers return them, but GainSaver doesn't refund shipping and so on, so they make money on shipping.
Plus, they charge extra for alledgedly installing additional parts which turn out to be built-in by the factory such as Airport Extreme wireless card (they charge $29.00 for "installing" it on Mac mini, however according to Apple it's already built-in).

"In short: DON'T shop at gainsaver.com for anything. Do a google search of company first---i forgot to do this and i have paid the price. There are many dozens of compalints against Gainsaver.com

1st problem: Wrong system software preloaded.
When this was discovered--After taking product to an authorized Apple Store, was told that what we received was not ordered. Product received is not what was advertised or what we paid for.. Unable to use product. Operating system Software shipped (Leopard 10.5) not what ordered (Tiger 10.4.11). Can’t use my existing software with Leopard system.
2nd problem: The product shipped had fraudulent Manufacturing date of April 1978. Apple was not in business then. The product also had notation that Apple Care warranty not to be given. This apparent fraudulent date was discovered by authorized Apple. Was told that the machine was probably stolen and that only a Apple Corporate employee could change the manufacturing date. Apple Corp received my complaint and is investigating.

3rd problem: unauthorized debit from bank credit card. Wanted to pay by certified bank check since origonal credit card had Puerto Rico billing address that Gainsaver could not use. Gainsaver then proceeded to charge another credit card I have with stateside address not waiting for vertified check to be received to facilitate shipping.

4th problem: Gainsaver refuses to refund actual cash back to me or pay for the return of the computer or reimburse me for initial shipping. Only want o give a store credit.

I have filed a complaint with better business bureau in Long Beach California for fraud, deceptive acts and practices.

"This is a company that lies to you. Under its Home Page section Top 10 Reasons to Shop at Gainsaver it says:
"3. Satisfaction Guarantee
If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase from GainSaver, just return it within 30 days for credit or refund. Some restrictions apply. See our Terms and Conditions for details. If you are looking to return a product, please see the Online Help"
This seems fine, until you go to the Terms, where it only states that items may be returned, within 14 days of purchase, and only for STORE CREDIT. So it's not 30 days, now it's 14, and not refund, only credit.

I purchased an IMAC from them. It arrived and within one day I determined it was defective and needed to be replaced.We got the proper RMA, and they accepted it back and issued us a store credit.So far so good.Then they said they would send us another of the same unit. After about a week the store manager Steve said that they had some more of the units coming in and would ship any day. After about another 5 business days it still had not shipped and I was told that they no longer carried this model and could not ship it!
If you go to to their site they always offer many Imacs for sale. So I decided I wanted a refund, not trusting them because they had already lied to me, and the girl I spoke to in Customer Service said that they would issue it. After a few days with no refund,I called and she repeated that they would issue a refund. Finally after another few more days with no refund I got Steve back on the phone and he said they do not issue refunds only credits.I asked to speak to the owner and he said it was a large firm. I asked the name of the firm and he refused to give it to me.
He became evasive and refused to do anything other thas offer store credit. I have issued a chargeback on my card purchase.

The main point is that nobody should deal with these people.You are playing Roulette with your order and they really do not act like they would support any prpoblems.
I feel that the FTC should investigate them for false advertising since they claim to offer refunds but then do not give them.

"I bought a laptop from gainsaver and they sent me one that wouldn't even start. Now they won't give me my $558 back. Steve Harper, the manager, had absolutly no sympathy towards my problem, when I called. I would never recommend anyone shopping from Gainsaver!!"

"DO NOT BUY FROM THIS MERCHANT!

Placed an order almost 2 months ago and things are still not resolved. They sent me the wrong product and I'm still waiting for a refund. They have stated in no uncertain terms that they WILL NOT refund shipping either to or from me even though they sent the WRONG PRODUCT.

Note, most of their customer service reps were very nice but not exceptionall helpful because of company policies. They kept telling me "there's nothing I can do, you have to go to the web site and enter a service request" - I currently have six service requests and counting.

The customer service manager was the worst of them all.

"**** WARNING!!!!! DONT BUY FROM THIS MERCHANT!!****

On June 20th I purchased a brand new 320 Gig Western Digital Harddrive from them for 46 bux. I thought, wow what a great deal. They shipped it fedex which took a week to recieve and then once I recieved the harddrive, i discovered it was some "MediaMax" brand drive. I looked up the information and no one has anything to say about this mysterious brand. I come to find out in one blog somewhere that its the off brand refurbished kind no one has ever heard of. So it was a western digital, they just sent me one that was labled another brand after it was refurbished. The site and my invoice clearly stated that I paid for a Brand New hard drive and it would have been in a box thats never been opened and shrink wrapped. I got a brown box with bubble wrap.

I called customer service and tried to talk to someone but they were VERY rude. One lady even hung up on me and told me to email them about it. So I emailed them a "Service Order" and they temporarily responded with a "We'll get back to you within 24-48 hours". Several days later I got fed up and contacted Paypal, whom I used to buy it through to protect myself (I highly reccommend!!!) and made a dispute with Gainsaver.

Finally they emailed me back saying FedEx will be there tomorrow to pickup so have it ready. I sent the harddrive with the carrier on June 24th, recieved a recipt for the harddrive and on June 30th a confirmation letter saying they have recieved it.

Now I've waited and its July 8th and no money returned. I called Gainsaver and the lady asked for my email address and as soon as she entered it in, its like they flagged my account. She was really nasty and irritable with me and told me they already sent it and it wasnt her problem anymore and to call paypal. I called paypal and spoke to a resolution specialist whom was so kind and told me that Gainsaver made no attempt to refund my money back to my account. He then called and was pushed over to gainsavers voicemail

(how convienient) and left them a message. The resolution specialist then came back on the phone and said he left the message and hopefully they will refund the money in a few days but its they didnt to contact fraud websites.

So here I am, passing this to you. If you have been scamed by this rude company, you can make a complaint with the following websites and they will investigate it.

"I ordered a motion computing le1600 as a gift for a artist friend of mine, I was so excited i got a good deal i told my friend about the gift. So i didn't hear a word and it was supposed to ship same day so i logged into my account and saw a message that i needed to call about my order. They service rep told me i had to buy the "90" 100.00 warranty
what a rip off, if that was it I would have been just a little disappointed but then she told me that she couldn't even ship the tablet till the next week when its like 8am why wouldn't they be able to ship it to me the next day like they said they would. I know they were trying to screw me with the 100.00 warranty that was an option for the tablet all of sudden it was not an option anymore . To top everything off the customer service rep, who claimed to be a manager was upset because i asked her to explain the situation to me so i can writer everything down. They never contacted me so i could have take care of this in a timely manner.

I would not recommend these guys. I am so angry cause I will have either disappoint my friend or pay more somewhere else.

"Not satisfied: Was told computers would arrive by a certain date. That day passed, and efforts to phone the company were met with answering machines only. There was no return call. I had to leave town for several weeks and did not want the equipment delivered while I was away. Contacted Steve, Sales Manager, from another location, who at first told me FedEx had tried to deliver on the original date, but when I tracked the order through FedEx there was no record of a delivery on that date.

I cancelled the order. Hard to do beuiness with people who do not stand by their word, do not respond to phone messages, provide inaccurate or dishoinest information about the shipping dates, and offer no apology.

Ain't worth it.

"Summary: Don't *ever* shop at Gainsaver; they cheat you, lie to you, and sell your email address to spammers.

I ordered a bunch of Macbook power supplies from Gainsaver because they had a very low advertised price. The order went through just fine and
when I was presented with the on-screen invoice, I printed it. It turns out I was very lucky to have done that.

When I received my order, I was disappointed to find that the parts I received were old-style Macbook Pro power supplies. The invoice included in the box, and my online invoice at the Gainsaver site when I rechecked it, represented that I'd ordered these old, huge power supplies. But I hadn't, and my printed receipt proved it. Upon calling Gainsaver with my complaint, I was quickly routed to Steve H., who appears to be in charge of the store. His approval was required to process the RMA. He claimed that I'd made a mistake when ordering, but I refuted this with my printed evidence. He made me fax him a copy of this printed invoice. In that fax I also included the copy of the invoice that was in the box when I recived it. On that copy, printed from a web browser, the URL in the page footer showed that someone at Gainsaver had been using a manager's code to modify the order.

With this evidence that I had ordered one part AND THE STORE HAD SECRETLY ALTERED MY ORDER to make me believe that I had made an error when ordering, so that they could rid themselves of their inventory of obsoleted parts, they approved my RMA. I shipped the parts back to them and they credited me for the amount minus fifteen dollars. This process took SEVERAL WEEKS, so by the time I got the rest of my money back, I was so happy to be done with Gainsaver that I decided they could keep my $15 just so I wouldn't be hassled by them again.

I re-ordered the parts from a better vendor and received them two days later, no hassles, no lies, no problems. I'll never do business with Gainsaver again.

UPDATE Nov 25 2008: When I ordered, I gave Gainsaver a personalized email address that I generated on the spot. Well, now they've sold my email address to spammers: "Secret Style" has begun emailing marketing offers to the address which supposedly only Gainsaver had. Way to go, Gainsaver, in your goal of being the WORST VENDOR EVER.

"I have orderd 3 other computers from gainsaver and never a problem when I did receive a forth it had some trouble, I was a little worried when I called, but the customer service staff was very helpful and willing to fix my problem and are shipping out a replacement machine the day after they received the merchandise, they explained that it happens some times with used equipment and not to worry, with the package tracking I am able to see it leave their warehouse. The prices seem to be unbeatable and they deliver what they say they have. I also purchased the extended warrenty, 1 year on used uquipment, on my PowerBook G4 1.5GHz. it was $100, after all I plan to get a few years out of this notebook."

"Leanne and Gainsaver were very helpful in authorizing a return for something that was defective. Within an hour the return had been approved. Leanne called me personally when the defective model had been received. She helped me reorder another model. Gainsaver has a very courteous staff and great product line. "I recieved the powercord I ordered on time and it seems to be in good working order. However, after reading several negative reviews of Gainsaver containing accounts of repeated rudeness, absurd incompetency, and overall poor customer service (the selling of a stolen computer with a missing serial #, restocking fees for return of damaged merchandise and worse- you can read for yourselves) my mind is made up to never buy a computer from them. "I ordered a PowerMac G5 from Gain Saver. They processed the order efficiently and quickly resolved a problem with my credit card (my bank declined the charge initially). The people at Gain Saver provided great service.

The computer had a small dent in the cover but this was clearly stated on their website and I knew it at the time of purchase.

The computer works great and is currently serving as a development platform for a 10G Ethernet adapter with a part-time job as an FTP server.
