"Ordered a Macbook and was told that day it’d be delivered in 1 day – I was told this was even listed in their computer system! – since I was only about 30 miles away.
Six days later, on daughter’s birthday and on last day of “3-5 shipping days,” I called GainSaver’s Customer Service to find out why my order was listed online as “processing.”
My call was picked up by a sales manager. She explained the computer set aside for me was defective (they found this out in Day 4 and, apparently, there were none else in stock) so it’d be a “2-3 week backorder.”
When I expressed amazement that they didn’t tell me this—and I’d have been waiting 2-3 more weeks—they said I was sent an e-mail saying this on the day I ordered (wha???) and there was nothing they could do.
Without warning, the woman said she was going to cancel the order (without my permission!!!). I was put on hold so I called back to Customer Service and again talked to sales, actually the Sales Manager this time, and he was as equally rude and unsympathetic, providing no other help but to say I’d just have to start over.
When I asked to talk to his supervisor, he said he was the only one that could talk to customers and hung up on me!
Worst customer service I’ve ever had, plus I have a roommate who got a GainSaver computer and the hard drive died in two weeks. Lesson learned: you get what you pay for and that includes awful, awful customer service—no surprise when it’s sales people answering the phones!
Don’t try and save a buck with these clowns, they’re horrible at righting a wrong and will leave you wanting… in this case, I missed my daughter’s 16th birthday and had to go to Apple.com to get legit service.

"I was inticed by the low price for the MacBook Air - so far, so bad! The computer shipped almost two weeks after ordering it. It came without the external DVD and Remote that I ordered (both were on the shipper). The 'friendly' lady on their sales line has the personality you'd expect at a utility or government office, not a for-profit outfit in in a high-tech industry. Once I started to ask if they could overnight the DVD drive to me, she parked me on hold forever... I would'nt hang up and she finally came back on - annoyed of course... I asked them to credit my account for the DVD and Remote - we'll see if they do it. It will cost 2x more at Best Buy, but at least I know it will be in the box when I get it!!
Not sure what happens when / if I have technical problems... Guess that's what I get for saving a few bucks! No More Gain Saver for Me!"
"Horrible customer service and rather than addressing the problem with my company they just stopped answering our calls.
Ordered 7 computers took them three months to deliver 5 of the 7 and refused to refund the money or send final two."
"Gainsaver Order 28209
The item shipped was not the item ordered. The Apple keyboard pictured was correctly listed as part number MB167LL/A. The Apple part number for the keyboard sent is M9270LL/A, a full size wireless keyboard with a numeric keypad.
After several tries I managed to get in touch with customer service. My call, a voice mail left the day before, had not yet been returned.
i filled out an on line form and received an RMA number and instructions. It stated "All returns are for store credit only. No returns for refund." The instructions were not clear as to who would be responsible for the cost of shipping.
I called customer service again...no waiting. I spoke to the department manager who told me that they would exchange for the correct item. That being acceptable, I then asked if I was expected to pay for shipping the returned item. He said yes. I asked if he thought that was right when the error was completely theirs. He said it is company policy. I found out that I was talking to the customer service manager when I asked if he had a supervisor that can override company policy.
I will not return the item. I would rather pay shipping to sell it on eBay. I will never do business at Gainsaver again. I strongly suggest that anyone considering buying from this company consider their careless shipping and irresponsible return policies."
"All the bad reviews you've read are true. These guys sold me a refurb'd iMac that broke down within 2 weeks. I returned it asking for a refund. They only issue store credit. Why do I want to buy something else from a company that sold me defective equipment to begin with?
This business is 2 kids in a basement. 1 guy (Steve), 1 girl (don't know her name). Nothing wrong with that business model, but this particular outfit is very shady. They will avoid and ignore your emails, phone calls, etc. They will take your money and run!
There are a lot of people angry with "Steve(Harper)at ext 321." This guy is scum."
"On November 2009, Gainsaver charged my credit card for a MacBook Pro 15.4 (mid-2009 model). They delivered an old 17-inch early 2008 model laptop (not close to what I had ordered - their mistake). I paid shipping to return product with their assurance they would send me correct item. From mid-November 2009 to late December 2009, their main customer service guy, Steve, assured me 3 times I would receive correct item "the next day". Upon calling back to ask for tracking number, I would receive email that item was out of stock. Steve asked me if I wanted older mac models that were in stock; He also asked if I wanted refund. I was so frustrated I finally said I want refund back. On 12/28/2009, I was refunded cost of item but not warranty ($150) and S & H ($27.78); the exact areas credit card companies cannot dispute - how convenient for them. Upon asking why I was not refunded full amount, they said there's a penalty of refund - S & H and warranty fees. Bottom line, I do not receive product but they keep my money; they screw up and I pay penalty. "
"I wanted to add to my last review.
I finally received a refund from Gain Saver.. it was 59.00
short of what my original purchase was.
Lesson learned.
If you want a great refurbished computer go to Apples website. I bought a refurbished 20 inch
2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo.. for 749.00
it had 2gb memory.. I upgraded by installing the
extra memory myself... I found 4gb memory on E-bay for 79.00 new unused. So I paid a total of.
828.00 for a great computer.. I found that I didn't save money with Gain Save at all.. not to mention.. the lousy rude service.. Please stay away from Gain Saver.

"Their prices seem too good to be true and they are. I ordered a macbook and within 15 minutes it proved defective. I returned it, had to pay the shipping, they said I could choose another model if I wanted and they would credit the new order. I chose a slightly more expensive model which the website said was in stock. On checking the new order details I discovered they were going to send me the original model not my next choice. I called, they cancelled that order, and created a new order with the new computer choice. One week later the order status said it was being prepared for shipping. The next week the order status said the same. I called to find out that it wasn't EVER in stock and they were waiting to get one from their distributor. Even though the website says "in stock" and ships within 48 hours! Finally cancelled the order, they said they would credit my credit card but that never happened. I am now having the credit card co. take care of getting my money back."
"Avoid this company. I have had a the same terrible experience as many other reviewers from this and other sites.
I received a much older model computer than the one I had ordered. When I returned it, there was not contact for weeks, despite several phone calls and email requests.
I finally got them on the phone, and the rep said that they will get back to me in a couple weeks because their returns department is backlogged. I was told that I will have to select from one of the older models, which may cost more. I cannot get the model I ordered, and there are no refunds. I will have to pay more for an older computer I do not want.
If you read other reviews, this happens so much it must be purposeful. How do these folks sleep at night?
I am disputing the credit card charge and complaining to every consumer group I can find."
"Ordered a laptop and got the wrong one. They sent a lesser model and stated that the one I ordered wasn't in stock. I said I wanted to send it back because it's not the one I ordered and they stated the one I got was, "just as good". After agreeing to RMA (which I paid for shipping), they gave me store credit. I ordered another model (more expensive) and agreed to pay the difference. I called three times to verify that the model I wanted was in stock, and each time rep "Steve" told me it was and was shipping that day. Four days later I get an email stating a problem with my order, and that they have a lesser model that's "just as good". NOT WHAT I WANTED! Their "in stock" is bogus. They have no idea what they have and don't and try to pass it off as if their inventory flies off the shelf. Other companies seem to have no problem showing their real time inventory.
After filing a complaint to the Better Business Bureau their response was"
"Per accounting department the customer was refunded in full minus the UPS freight charge. Please call if you have any questions. Thank you, Customer service".
Total lie! I called after a week to ask why no refund and a very rude woman said it was rejected for store credit only! AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE!"
"Two kids in a basement? It might be, based on their quality of service. I ordered an Acer Aspire netbook on 11/19. Today, 11/23 I received this email: "There is a problem with you order. Please give us a call at: ***-***-**** M-F 6AM-5PM PST". I called repeatedly, pressing 2 for Customer Service, only to finally hear "We are not able to take your call at this time."
By the fourth time I heard this, I received another email from them as follows:
"Dear Customer, Your order has been cancelled.
Thank you for the Business!" ????
I am still waiting for an explanation. There is a customer service number, but no one answers it. I bought the item elsewhere, on the same credit card. If you need good service, or any service, look elsewhere!
"
"DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! BEWARE! BEWARE! THEY ARE SCAMMERS. I configured a Macbook Pro on their site and paid for it. When it came it was not configured the way I specified and indeed had paid for. I was given a run around for three days and never got any satisfaction. It seems the whole operation is run by two people who are really unhelpful and completely unaccountable. I was so unsure about their integrity after dealing with them, I didn't even trust them to do the right thing If I returned the item.
I wound up walking away with a computer that I had to finish configuring myself and after that cost I could have purchased a new Macbook Pro with all the guarantees. THE LESSON! THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS AND THIS COMPANY IS NOT AN ANSWER FOR ANYONE."
"I ordered an intel Macbook on 9/11 just to develop iphone apps. It shipped 6 days after the order. When I turned it on, it froze. I could not boot after that. I bought snow leopard to try and correct the problem. I returned it and asked for another. It's 10/7 and I still have no computer. "
"I cannot agree more. I bought a MacBook Pro from these guys which came defective and then crashed upon upgrading to Snow Leopard. The infamous Steve Harper, the owner, lived up to his horrible reputation. I asked him for my money back and he said no, and then I said I would dispute the charge and post on forums about them. He said he didn't care, would send it to collections and then put me on perpetual hold...the equivalent of hanging up on me. All attempts to contact them have failed. They have no email address for customer service and only provide automated responses to online help requests. I got an email of some guy who buys the used computers, but he didn't even have the decency to write me back!
The Internet is full of stories like ours. I do not know how they stay in business. They are actually committing fraud and no one is doing anything about it. Meanwhile, people keep buying from them...stupid people like me who did not do their homework first. I wish there was a way to warn the world about them.

"Had no problems making the order (iMac) and receiving it promptly. However, when we hooked it up, it didn't work -- kept freezing. Had no trouble reaching customer service by e-mail AND phone, but we have to pay to have it shipped back, even though it was defective on receipt and we purchased an extended warranty. This problem is not the kind of problem caused by shipping/handling. They obviously did not check out the hardware before it shipped."
