"I have never done business with gamestop until I tried to buy a use xbox kinect bundle on jonesboro road. I was toold they had the system and would sell it to me, after I drove there they proceeded to tell me it was defective and would not sell it. I called back to talk with a manager and he told me that he lied and took the system back as defective and would sell it to me for full retail price. Then I called the regional manager who didn't help me at all. Every person I talked with did nothing but tell lies and a different story. I will never deal with gamestop again. You can get the same products on ebay for the same price. The store only find a way to rip you off..."
"website says the store closest to my house is open 11am-8pm on sundays. drove by at exactly 7pm just to find out they were closed. sweet."
"FALSE ADVERTISING: I purchased two new games from GameStop because they advertised "Free Shipping". The total cost was $99.98 plus $7.00 tax. When I received my confirmation, I found they had added $7.49 for "Handling". No where in the transaction was there a mention of a "Handling" charge. Just on principal, I definitely will not order from GameStop again!"
"So I got my order today of three used games for the ps2. One of them is fine and in decent condition, what I would expect when buying a used game. But the other two came with broken cases, they are coated in dust, have chew marks, and are so broken along the spine and cover that they don't even close.
I called costumer service and the girl on the other end told me that it was stated on the website that this is normal and acceptable, though she herself went looking and couldn't find where this was stated, she told me, and quote "well that's just how it is."
I was offered to send the games back and they will send me new ones. When I asked if there was any way of doing this through one of their stores I was told flat out no.
After my last experience with them where they sent me an overheating ps2 along with a game that didn't play then to be sent a replacement with a controller that did not function along with a cord that shorts out I wasn't up for sending the games back only to wait and see what was broken next time.
They wont be receiving any more of my business and I'm appalled at their lack of costumer service, on the website and in their stores. "
"I've ordered video games (new and used) from Gamestop several times with no issues. The games always arrived on time and they usually ended upgrading my shipping for free. For used games, I've only received ones in working condition, and fortunately, most included the original case.
Especially for used games, coupons available online make Gamestop's prices competitive. However, for new games, I'd only recommend them for their pre-order specials, which usually include collectible items. Sometimes, they also offer good trade-in values (in-store only, though gift cards can be redeemed on the site), but most of the time, their trade-in offers are crap.
Generally speaking though, Amazon (for new) or secondhand markets like eBay (for used) offer better prices. "
"I ordered three games and Wii System on Tuesday, and also paid overnight shipping cost, so that I can get it before weekend. First they verify my order, they sent me email asking me to call them next business day, I called first thing in morning and they just repeat all information, which I provided during my check out. well then what? I wait till Friday before I received my order and in that box I only found three games, no Wii system. I called customer service, she was very rude, and don't even bothered to apologies. they told me that I will be getting system by Wednesday. and not even offer refund or anything. this was my worest experience in my life, I really hope I will get my entire shippment back by next week, else i have to call my credit card company. NEVER USE GAME STOP.COM, Better using amazon or buy.com"
"The site was really easy to use and the prices were really competitive. I bought both COD and WoW cataclysm for cheaper than I could find anywhere else.
I also used gamestop discount codes from www.gamestopcode.com
They give you free shipping codes, gamestop vouchers and discount codes. Really good site as well, use the coupons to maximize your savings!"
"Pre-ordered Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar from Gamestop in August and also bought a used game. I got them both cheap with fast shipping and no problems whatsoever."
"Having been a customer of GameStop for years (formerly known as Funcoland, way way back in the day), I have until 2010 had no problems with them purchasing in-store or online. However, as of this year, EVERY one of my orders on EVERY credit card I have has been declined! I've lived at the same place for 4 years, I have the same billing as shipping address. They tell me their "verification system" won't allow my order to be processed. I work in the customer service field, I am familiar with various point-of-sale programs and credit card processors such as Authorize.net and PayPal. I might add, GameStop doesn't currently utilize PayPal and they should. It would make life a LOT easier for their customers. I do not have a false address or bad card number, I own and hold all my cards in my wallet. Not like anyone stole them. The customer service messages are unhelpful and repetitious. I quote-
"We sincerely apologize, however in regards to your recently placed order we have run into an issue; as it seems that our verification server is
unable to accept your information. We encourage you for future purchases, to consider shopping at your local GameStop, as they do not have the same verification server as we do online. If you need the address, phone number or operation hours for a local store, please feel free to use the Store Locator option on our web page at http://www.gamestop.com/StoreLocator.aspx
Our website is setup to allow almost all orders to be placed but once this is done the order goes through a rigorous verification process to prevent potential fraud and most importantly protect our online customers."
Well, why the hell have a website if you "suggest" a brick and mortar store!? It seems to me your "rigorous" protection system is a little too rigorous. Oh and a few days later, I got an email very similar to this. Fail. FAIL!! Gamestop, I'm leaving you for a beautiful Amazon.com. She's much prettier, has more coupons and will keep me happy to the end of my days. You owe me alimony and I'm taking the Sega Genesis with me.
Everybody, do yourself a favor and STOP going to GameSTOP.

"I ordered a simple PSP game during a promotion which offered free 2 day shipping on PSP titles. The game was Pangya Fantasy Golf. At the time of my order it was listed as in stock and still in stock several days later. They never shipped it to me. I emailed them after a week and they said it must have gotten lost in the mail and they would ship me a new copy in 3 to 5 days. So I waited patiently, another 10 days go by and still no shipping notification and no game. So I emailed them again. This time they say We're sorry for the confusion here is a 10$ coupon and we will ship the game on 8/09. So I expect to get the game around the 11th or 12th since they are supposed to be shipping it on the 9th of August. No luck, still no game.... Showing far more patience that they deserve I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait until the following Monday Aug 16th. Still no game. So I emailed them again now almost 1 month after I placed the order, a month during which they have the money I paid them for this order and I have no game. I tell them I do not believe they have ever shipped me a game because they have provided no shipping information to me and finally after this email they admit they never shipped it and give me this story about it being out of stock and delisted so they can not fulfill my order. Clearly they lied to me for a month before they finally decided to just tell me the truth. It took another week to actually get my refund. What a waste of time. I used to buy tons of games from them both locally and online but now I will be buying all my games elsewhere. Avoid this joke of a company at all costs."
"I preordered two copies of Starcraft 2 in April. My order status page was updated to reflect the shipping of the items with an included USPS tracking number. Throughout the next week, I made numerous calls to Gamestop to verify the item was shipped since my personal tracking of the item always yielded "There is no record of this item." I was told after 15 business days from the date of shipment, I can request a refund; which I did. After I finish my phone call being told that I will receive a refund on my credit card within 3-5 business days, I think all is well. Now I have an email that was sent to me with documentation that must be filled out stating that I didn't receive the shipment. Unfortunately, the stupid affidavit documentation REQUIRES a notary which is a complete waste of my time and expense over a sub-$100 purchase. I called customer service again offering to sign the documentation WITHOUT a notary and they refuse. Apparently my only option remaining is to dispute the charge with my credit card company. I will NEVER be ordering from Gamestop again."
"Gamestop has the worst payment verification system ever, they really don't want your money. I tried to place an order online with my credit card, it got canceled, I received no email, the only reason I found it because I was curious and checked myself online. I called them and they told me your payment information didn't match your credit card company information. So I called up my CC company and they told me nothing is wrong. By the time I try to place my order the second time it's sold out. I called customer service again and they can't do anything (useless). The next morning (20 hours later) I finally got an email from them saying my order is canceled, well it's a bit too late now. I sent an email to their support team and they basically copy and pasted the same thing from the email I received earlier (Thank you so much Travis for your wonderful copying and pasting abilities). They either fix their verification system or accept paypal like every other online store. Never ordering with them again."
"I've come to the conclusion that Gamestop does not want my money.
Over the past three days, I've tried placing three orders with them. The first one was canceled - I thought this was due to an address mismatch (I just moved), so I both emailed and called them and tried to get it straightened out. It turns out that I got flagged by their "verification" system, and they couldn't tell me anything other than that, and couldn't help me at all. A bit irritated, I gave up.
This morning, I decided to try again. I placed an order under a new account, in order to try and see if the old account was just blacklisted because of the address screwup. Canceled again.
I created a new account and used a different credit card in case that was the problem. Canceled again.
At this point, I called their customer service (who told me again they couldn't help) and asked for a supervisor. A guy named Robby came on the line, and I was able to get him to admit that they CAN help, but they just WOULDN'T. Oh wonderful. I asked for his supervisor, and he said I would receive a call back.
About half an hour later, I got a call, and after a lengthy explanation about what went wrong, he (surprisingly) again told me that there was nothing he could do about it. I again got him to admit that he COULD fix things, but he just WOULDN'T.
It was only once I told him that I've sent them hundreds of orders through their affiliate program that he backed down a bit, saying that if I'm a business partner of theirs, that changes things.
At this point, though, whether I get my order or not, it may be too late. Though I've been a Gamestop customer since I can remember there being Gamestops and an affiliate of theirs since 2003, I'm probably going to sever both relationships because of this ridiculous debacle.
Edit: 8/6: Unsurprisingly, they never called me back. Not only are they incompetent, but they're liars as well."
"I was looking around at the different stores that did Aion pre orders. Different stores had different pre order bonuses. I was specifically after the fire based reward so chose to pay an extra $5 and buy it through gamestop, over steam or any other supplier.
When I received my item, it was not what the promised at all, when their product page clearly stated what I get.
I sent a support email inquiring about this, they gave me a very short reply saying its not their problem and that I should talk to NCsoft(Aion publisher)
False promises, bad support, very dissatisfied customer and will not be buying with them again."
"On the 15th at around 8:30-9:00PM I ordered a game from Gamestop.com. Immediately afterwords, I changed my mind. I checked the order status, and saw I could "Cancel shipment", only that did not work. I was not given an error, I was simply told I couldn't cancel, and to email tech support with a cancel request. I did so that same night, within thirty minutes of placing the order. I waited nearly 24 hours, checking the status of the order several times throughout the day. The status stayed at "Verifying" the whole day. I then checked the status again around 6:30PM and nothing had changed, and I had not received an email. Then at exactly 6:50PM I receive an email saying they could not cancel my order as it had shipped already. I knew it couldn't have as I had checked the order status within the last 30 minutes. I check the status of the order, and it had been marked "Shipped". The order completely skipped the "Processing" stage, and went directly from "Verifying" to "Shipped".
I replied to the email, demanding I be reimbursed for the order price, as I did not wish to pay for it, and am only paying for it at their error. I was told they could not do that unless I sent the item back.
Update 6/27/10:
After exchanging emails they finally agree to refund the full price of the order, but only AFTER I had left this negative review. They stated they were refunding the price of the order "in the spirit of good customer support".. A little too late for that, isn't it?"
