"Ordered some pre-owned games during its Buy-2-Get-1-Free promotion, got some bargains from it, and yet the order gets cancelled for no reason at all. I also remember a few months back during Summer when I ordered 3 copies of Wii Fit + 3 Balance Boards and ended up getting 1 Wii Fit disc and 1 Wii Play with 0 Balance Boards. It took 6 calls to customer service to sort it all out. Too much of a hassle to deal with again, I'm done with GS. "
"pre-ordered a game that was to be released on Tuesday, 11/17. As of Thursday, 11/19, still no game. Tracking the order is a joke, and I never got my coupon code to redeem a special item online for in-game play (as a thanks for pre-ordering). Will never order a game from them again."
"Gamestop or EBGames digital downloads are a pain. When I contacted Gamestop about the digital order I was told that Trymedia handles all digital download orders and you will need to speak with them. When I requested the 1-800 number I was told I may only contact Trymedia by email. I am paying the same price as the boxed game if I were to buy the game in the store from Gamestop, but I was not provided a manual. When I asked Trymedia through email, the only way to contact them, if I would be provided a copy of the manual I was given a link to try and locate a copy of the manual on a website. For both games I bought from Gamestop there were no manuals on the site Trymedia provided to me. Their suggestion if a copy of the manual was not provide on that site was to contact the maker of the game for a copy of the manual through the markers website. Why should I have to search the net for a copy of the manual when I paid the same price if I bought it at the store? One should be provided to me but is not provided in a digital format when you download the game. I did try to locate a manual for Batman Akrham Asylum on the Eidos site but a manual was not provided for the PC version yet. For Batman Arkham Asylum you need the manual for the serial number. I received an email with a key code but it is not the same as the serial number. I am being asked to enter a serial number with a request code provided by the app to activate the game. I enter the cd key code there and am told the serial number is not on file. In order to get help with this I must send another email and wait. I tried calling Gamestop for help and was told there is nothing they can help with because it is a digital download. I must contact Trymedia via email and wait for their one way response. I would suggest going to a store other than Gamestop to buy games after the way they handled this order. It is like I did not even purchase the game from Gamestop. I feel like I was scammed by Gamestop and Trymedia. I thought I was purchasing a game from Gamestop not some 2nd hand outsourced customer service company. Save yourself the hassle and purchase the CD-rom. You try to do something better for the planet by not ordering the packaging but end up getting second hand customer service in you need assistance with you order. It should be the other way around. "
"Pointless to order expedited service from this company. I ordered a PSP bundle for my niece who was drooling over it. Gamestop sat on the order all day, and then at 7 pm (what the heck?) they sent me the dreaded "Verification required" email. When I called, they couldn't explain why this "verification" was required, but they did say the order would ship that night, which was false. Here it is another day passed and the order still hasn't shipped. I wasted my money on expedited shipping and I will probably never order from this company again."
"I have been a Gamestop customer for a while and I do enjoy their brick and mortar stores; on the other hand, the online store not so much. Previously I have had reliable transportation and frequented the brick and mortar locations and find that the employees seem opinionated yet they know what they are doing most of the time. When I buy used games from them I try to find cases with manuals included, it's just the way I like my pre-owned games. Sometimes they insert the wrong game or do not even put a game in the case; this happened twice in the last year. I was not too irritated by that, because I noticed before I left the parking lot. On one occasion the register rang up a wrong price and I had to visit another store to correct the error. I find there prices reasonable to an extent, because I have there 'Edge' card which I purchased for three dollars that the Game Informer magazine honored for an error they had on there subscription card - now it is ten dollars without the subscription. The prices for the used games are often absurd; for example they would sell a new game for $19.99 and sell the used for $17.99 that they traded in for $3.25.
The online store is where I have all my gripes with. They just started listing the next generation games with a guaranteed box and manual, which I find very pleasing. Prior to this change it was opposite to all their merchandise and literally everything I purchased from them either came with a generic case that the company made and never had the original manual. On this recent online purchase and confident in there guarantee I went ahead and purchased three games and one game was missing the manual, I contacted them about the problem and received a e-mail saying they will replace the item. It had been over a week without and tracking information.
Overall I am displeased with how Gamestop runs there online store and all around business practices. "
"The only good thing about Gamestop is that it's there.
The bad is everything else. They always tried to sell the display copy without telling you and put a giant circle sticker on the box. On top of the hard to remove price tag and the second one on the side.
It's annoying because you pay the new full price and before you leave the store it looks like someone else's used crap. If I pay for a new game I expect the game to look like that.
I bought a used game that was hard to find, I later asked for a price adjustment because I later found out that they have the same used game with a lower price. I asked for a price match, or buy that one and THEY REFUSED.
In the past they charge me 30 dollars on a game with a 15 price tag. They put the wrong label on and REFUSED to sell it to me at 15.
I don't like them and it's not worth the effort. Ebay is cheaper and the wait time is indeed worth it for their headache.
Also, "If you preorder you get a free demo download of the game" WTF? That's for free already as a download already through the ps3 network. I don't understand the store at all sometimes. "
"Just read all the other reviews! This company is an absolute fraud! They list items as NEW, but sell you USED copies. This is a major illegal deceptive marketing. I bought two copies of the same PS3 games and I COULD NOT BELIEVE one was already UNWRAPPED and had their GameStop fake "NEW" sticker physically on the case itself! The case had gashes and was clearly USED. The other copy was wrapped but was torn and did not have the "NEW" sticker on it. Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE and absurd a "major company" would do this. Avoid this company at all costs and everyone should also report them to the BBB. I am NEVER buying or trusting this company ever again. I hear many horror stories from people about their in-store experience with this company, and well, I gave their online store a chance and it's just as fradulent and appalling.
Update 8/19/09 -- So guess what? It just got worse and worse. This is what's happening: I shipped back the two gutted/used copies on 8/7/09 and tracking showed that they received it on 8/12/09. They admitted/gave an excuse that it was a "warehouse error" and that it won't happen on my REPLACEMENT. Keep in mind, I also properly followed their return instruction exactly and wrote "return for REPLACEMENT" on the shipping label. Well, guess what happened? A few days go by and I don't receive the replacements or any updates on my order. I wrote a complaint on 8/18/09 and I get an email the next day stating my money was just refunded. I thought I couldn't have been any more clear? I asked for a replacement -- not a refund. I also noticed the refund was posted on my credit card exactly on the date I wrote them an email (8/18/09); I don't think this is a coincidence -- too many negligence by this company for one transaction. The item has been showing in stock all this time, but now it's currently showing as "Backordered". What a scam. I don't know what they're going to do next, but I will be sure to follow-up on it. Truly unacceptable service.
Update #2: Received coupon to make up for their errors. Item was also re-shipped 8/25/09 via UPS NEXT-DAY AIR SAVER and received 8/26/09. Both items this time were genuinely brand new. I hope the people who shipped the used ones were fired. I'm glad this is all over; original order date was 7/29/09 -- almost a month went by. I hope these issues would not be repeated to future customers. "
"I ordered 2 Guitar Hero III bundles for the PS3 2 days ago and I received it today. On the gamestop website it was listed as a new game and that the game itself is in perfect condition. Well when I opened it, the game itself was not even sealed. The game had smudges and scratches on it and there were no batteries for the guitar. Gamestop listed the game as brand new when clearly it was used. I called gamestop regarding the matter and was told to just simply return it. Apparently customer satisfaction is not a priority for gamestop as there were no other options aside from returning it. The customer service rep was also giving me an attitude. I will never purchase from gamestop again after this ordeal."
"I ordered a game through gamestop and used their special buy 2 get one 1, not a bad idea. I sent the order in on friday, with one day procesing and two days shipping. today is wedensday april 28, and it shows on the website "pending". i ordered another game right after that, used overnight cause i needed it really bad. Expected it monday. it just shipped today, and the tracking number dosent even work. i dont feel like calling because i have had bad experiences before with costomer support personel. i buy games from the store all the time. the employees seem high, confused, and strange. im afraid to hand them my money. they are not friendly at all!!! gamestop has a major flaw with their stores, employees, and their online ordering system. and they either need to fix the problem, or they shouldent even be aloud to run a bussiness. i believe this will be my last time using gamestop.com. and i might not even use the store no more"
"This is the most recent example of the true lack of customer service GameStop offers. Every order I've placed requires 'verification' before they can process it. Sometimes taking up to 3 days to notify me, which is supposedly outside of their 48 hour response window for the verification. When a rep is asked why, their only response is that it's a requirement. It's a hassle and nobody should be made to take 15 minutes out of their day out to simply verify everything on an order placed 3 days previously."
"Tried to order a Gift Card for grandson's birthday. Three days after placing order they emailed me to say there was a problem with the billing address I provided and to please correct it. Three days later? Really? The only difference I could find was using my first name instead of my initial which is on my billing. So I corrected it with them and guess what? They cancelled the order ionstead of sending out the gift card. I called my credit card company and they assured me that they had already authorized the charge for my purchase! So it took Gamestop.com four days and they still screwed up my order. And no one ever gave me the courtesy of a phone call. They are incompetent in the extreme. Avoid this company like the plague!!"
"Paid a majorly hiked up price for shipping 2-Day UPS, and placed the order 3 days ago. Website status just showed "verifying" for 3 days strait. I called finally and they claimed "oh, uh.. it should ship today". Sent 2 emails, plus one the their "Corporate" office. All emails have been ignored. Just canned replies that the email has been received and looking into it. Will not do business with them again. Amazon and other places are better than this. Paying that amount, they need to move their ass in a timely manner."
"YOU CANNOT COUNT ON GAMESTOP.COM!!!!!
Ordered a pair of gift certificates as x-mas gifts for my niece and nephew on Dec 17th, in PLENTY time for x-mas, considering they are simply virtual gift certificates to be EMAILED to me by the 25th! Well, guess what. They weren't received, even after I checked up on the problem several days before x-mas. On the 25th, still no emailed gift certificates, and the company's customer service dept was closed, naturally, so my niece and nephew were out of luck. Seeing as how I actually had talked to the company several times between the day of my order and the 23rd, I feel like I've MORE than given them a shot."
"I ordered a Nintendo Wii system for my children for Christmas on a pre-order. The item was shipped and received when they stated however, the game system was very poorly packed.
The game system package was in a larger box with almost no protective packing material.
It was shipped U.P.S. and you know how gently they handle packages especially around this busy holiday season.
I tried to contact Game stop by telephone but was unable so, I emailed them to let them know that I was dissatisfied with the service and to also let them know that they had conveniently overcharged me on the sales tax. I received an email back simply stating that I could return the item but there would not be any exchange available until after the holiday because the stock had been depleted. No mention of correcting the overcharge. I can't understand why the company would pack a $250 electronic game system so poorly.
I hope it isn't damaged but I won't be buying from Game Stop ever again."
"I've read reviews about this store after I bought a used game. I thought it would happen to me too, but I guess I got lucky.
The used game was pretty good considering it's...used. The cd is hardly scratched and it came with the game box and manual. This will be my first and last purchase from them. They're only good at person instead of online."
