Fraudulent, bait and switch

"I sent two sealed unlocked Samsung S23 Ultra phones, in sealed boxes, directly from Samsung. They offered me $711 for each phone. When they received the phones they adjusted the price to $348 per phone claiming the phones were not unlocked, reducing what i receive by $726. "

Fraud, will give you one price, then offer you less once you send in the phone.

"My personal experience with a recent attempt to sell my phone on Gazelle, where they downgraded the condition of the phone once I sent it in and reduced their offer. A web search has found many others online experiencing the same issue when they used Gazelle.

For me, tried to sell my iPhone 11 on Gazelle. I’m a perfectionist at heart, and have always kept the phone in a lined case with a screen protector since the day I bought it, so no scratches/blemished areas, etc. Inspected the phone and even took close-up photos, and verified there was not a single scratch or blemish. I filled out their online form, and indicated the phone was in “excellent condition”, and was offered $251. Sent it in the padded box they provided, and a week or so later after receiving the phone, received the following from Gazelle:

"When we checked out your Apple iPhone 11 128GB (Unlocked), we found some conditions that affected the value of your item. Here's what we found:
• Scratches: We found that the device has more than the acceptable amount of scratches.
Because of this, we are adjusting your offer to $194.00 for your Apple iPhone 11 128GB (Unlocked). You can choose to accept the new offer of $194.00, or have us return your item to you. If we do not hear from you by 09/28/2023, your new offer will be automatically accepted and we will pay you the new price."

Needless to say, for an almost $60 devaluation of a perfect phone, I did not accept their offer, and had them return it, which they did. Inside was the phone with a tag stating the phone exterior condition was rated as “C”… mid grade. I inspected the phone again, verified it was my actual phone, and inspected it carefully again, no, there is not one scratch on it!!!!

I tried selling again with another online business DeCluttr, was offered the same amount, and once they received the phone they paid me the full amount right away, no issues there.

I’m aware that a condition of a phone is subjective to whoever looks at it, but for a business to say it has more scratches than acceptable when it does not even have one scratch is fraud.

This business will take advantage of you if you let them...go elsewhere!

Scammed by Gazelle! Stay Away!

"Sent Gazelle two different phones for trade-in. To my surprise, they processed the lower-value phone twice, overlooking my pristine-condition trade-in meant for a higher offer price. Despite multiple attempts to clarify, they failed to grasp their error and refused to rectify the situation. Their handling was highly unsatisfactory. Beware when parting with your device to this company."

Beware in sending in multiple devices

"Beware of sending multiple, different devices back. I mailed in 8 Air 2s and 6 Airs for payment. They assigned wrong ID numbers when they came in (so some of my Air2s were assigned with the Air quoted price). Most of the Air2s they said had too many scratches, so they knocked my price down from $52 to $26. Then they attached the $26 line to an Air so the price "increased" and it auto accepted my offer. I could not get back my devices even after calling within 2 hours of getting the email. I was told it was already processed for payment and all sales are final. WILL NEVER USE AGAIN!"

Ridiculous Scammy Offer

"So Gazelle initially offered me $180 for my iPad Air 3 in very good condition which I thought was good. So I sent my device to them. They then emailed me claiming to have found “too many scratches” on it which is totally false and offered me $30!! They baited me with a decent offer and then obviously hoped I would just take it so they could take a tidy profit. Ummm, no I’m not stupid. I only hope they return it undamaged now. "

Horrible! Untrustworthy!

"This company sent me an email offer for my phone. I accepted it and sent the phone in. A week later, they tell me it has a crack and scratches on it which I did not have when I sent it in. Then they offer me $100 less than the initial offer. I accept it just to avoid hassle. But then when the confirmation email comes, it’s even $50 less than the already lower offer. They are a bunch of liars and thieves. Do not do business with this company!!"

Stolen phone

"The phone that I bought was locked because is was stolen or locked because of a delinquent bill. Gazelle knew this before selling it to me. I could not activate it at Verizon. Gazelle is accepting the return, but selling it in the first place is unacceptable. "

Do Not Sell Them Your Phone !!

"Had a phone that was put in a case the moment it came out of the box (Otter box defender) It had 1 tiny scratch on the glass and one very tiny scratch on the back. Submitted as flawless but was at least lightly used. they didn't even offer me the lightly used price. dropped my original offer by almost $100. I read many other people with same issue, but figured there was no way they could get me as I knew the condition of my phone. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS !!!!"

"Bait and switch...Never use gazelle to sell your used items. Once they receive your item they will offer you less saying your item has too many scratches on it. I sent them a samsung phone in immaculate condition. They offered 90 dollars less than my offer. This is deceptive business practice and they should never be trusted. What a horrible way to conduct your business"

"Bait and Switch

Gazelle is a total fraud! I got an offer for a 4 month old iPad 10th generation, still with AppleCare+. It was for $311, which is basically equal to the selling price on eBay, minus fees. The iPad was immaculate, as it has been kept in a case, its entire life. After holding onto the iPad for over 10 days, I received an offer of $205, claiming that there were “an unacceptable amount of scratches on it. This is Gazelle’s business model— make a decent marketable offer, and then lowball the offer, claiming that the device is damaged. Read all of the reviews of Gazelle, before doing business with them. There is no phone number to discuss the situation; all there is offered is digital communication. Expect the “buy low, sell high” business structure from this unscrupulous company!
