"I ordered an Asus S96J from GenTechPC on Friday, August 18th at about 4:30pm. Ken called to confirm the order about 30 minutes later and said that the computer would ship no later than Tuesday night (8/22).

On Monday, 8/21, I sent an e-mail to Ken requesting that he add another 1G of RAM to my laptop. He called me back within 20 minutes, upgraded my order, and told me that my laptop was shipping that day.

It arrived on Friday 8/25. UPS (I hate UPS) had obviously banged the box around quite a bit and retaped it. GenTech packs their shipments well, though. The computer was fine. Plugged it in, turned it on, and it's fantastic.

First, I called and talked to Ken several times prior to my order while I was researching the laptop market. He was very helpful and, at the same time, he never tried to pressure any sale. After these calls, I felt good about Gentech so I placed an online order for Asus S96J. 20 minutes later Ken called to confirm the order. It took 7 days for shipping, as promised. Once I got my laptop, everything was in great shape. However, soon I disovered a BIOS problem. Ken and I tried to fix it through phone conversations several times but nothing worked, so I had to ship it back. No problems there. Finally, according to Ken, they weren't able to solve the problem so they sent me a new barebone with the components from the previous laptop. Again, received the shipment in promised time and my new laptop was (is) working perfectly.

Ok, I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do appreciate the "good things in life" ...especially a well-built laptop. I was tired of buying off-the-shelf computers & wanted a custom-built lappy that would serve me well over the next 3-4 years. Ken @ GenTech PC was more than helpful in assisting me configure the laptop to my needs. He was very patient & thorough in answering my questions, recommending what he thought would be ideal for my intended use. My ASUS S96J was ready to ship within 2 days of my purchase. Ken was even gracious enough to notify me of Intel's price reduction & offered an upgrade. I received my laptop in a box packed so securely, I had difficulty disengaging it from the box! "Notebook computers (NBs) are essential to my work. I always like (or try) to have the latest technologies. I have an IBM-T31(SXGA), a Fujitsu- P7010 (mini-WXGA), a Toshiba-M200 (Tablet-SXGA), a Dell-700M, a Dell-D600 and built an Asus6000N and a generic 12.1"WXGA in the last 18 months or so. I have also upgraded all these “name-brand” computers, e.g., changing CPU, HD, optical drives, memories.
Based on my experience with these NBs, Asus600N is, perhaps, the best when considering its display (15.1SXGA), battery life, etc. However, it is slightly on the heavy side for long travel. Thus, I use my Fujitsu and Toshiba for my long-term out-of-office usages. On the other hand, I really do NOT enjoy my Dell600 and 700M, e.g., poor battery life, USB ports in these two NBs do not have enough power to drive an external portable 2.5”HD, etc.
Since I have had 6000N for about a year, I’ve been looking for a new NB and found AsusZ71V with the specs (15.4WSXGA, 533/400 CPU, duel-channel 533 MEM) that I want. I went ahead to order one barebones on-line.
Mr. Ken Lee called me to verify info on the next working day. I “accidentally” asked him if he could provide me installation instructions while I really did not expect him to respond. (I spent some time and effort to find “instructions” when I put together my 6000N.) Surprisingly, Ken emailed me the instructions in about 10-15 minutes. I really appreciated his response which saved me a lot of time and efforts.
The NB came in a week, via free-shipping. Following instructions, I put CPU, MEM, HD in. The machine wakes up and runs without any problem, with Windows disk. I love it very much. Overall, it is an excellent computer. My sincere thanks to KEN.
There are two issues that you may want to pay extra attention when you put together Z71V. 1) The default speed switch is “533MHz”. You need to switch “up” for 400MHz CPU. 2) For HD assemblage and connector to NB, you need to attach HD to HD fixture (4 screws on back) before connect to NB.
