"Great company, excellent prices and good service -a really terrific combo and the best on the net IMHO for the built on Asus line of laptops - can't beat their prices unless you can buy wholesale. They shipped out my custom laptop one day after the order was processed. It is hard to get someone on the telephone if you're calling before 12 EST but other than that absolutely no complaints - highly reccomended and if you need to contact them quickly try emailing first. "

"After considering a Dell or IBM, but not getting a "warm fuzzy" as far as customer service and upgrades, I stumbled on ASUS, and their site listed GenTech as a vendor. Idiscovered they were one of the only ones selling the V6V. Their prices beat their competitors, and even had a faster processor. When the item was backordered, I was emailed and called to let me know. When I had to change shipping addresses, there was no problem! The shipping email contained the tracking link for UPS. The item arrived on time and well packaged. All in all a superior purchase experience. Top notch vendor, great staff. Other business could learn something from the GEnTech folks."

"I needed a laptop for my spring semester at school, and spent most of my winter break looking for one. I decided on my perfect laptop (Asus M6Ne) with about one week until I had to go to school, and thus began looking for a seller. That is when I stumbled upon GenTechPC, who seemed to be selling the laptop (actually, the components – you can opt to have them put it together for you for very cheap) for significantly less than any other seller I could find. I was also concerned with how much time the laptop would take to build and ship, as I was leaving for school at the end of the week. To my delight, I ordered it on Tuesday and received it that weekend!

However, with computer components being as finicky as we all know, I ran into a problem. My computer would not always boot up, and would not wake from sleep/hibernation. I called the support, and after about an hour they had narrowed the problem down to one of the RAM sticks. I RMA’d it, and had them to ship it to my school address. (I was still able to use my laptop as it had two ram chips) My first week at school, I received my new chip, popped it in, and became a very happy customer.

For those who don’t want to read my novella there:
-Ordered laptop on Tuesday – received on Saturday (and they built it from “scratch”)
-Had a bad RAM chip – fast and friendly support sent me a new one in about a week
-Couldn’t be happier with my laptop or GenTech

"First time dealing with these guys so I was a little apprehensive. They stocked a particular barebones notebook that every other vendor seemed to be out of. Ordered on a Friday and they shipped it out the same day. Free shipment via UPS ground took almost a week to arrive. I'm not really complaining, I guess I'm just spoiled by Newegg's super saver shipping that usually only takes 2 days to get to me. Overall positive experience and would likely purchase my next notebook from them."

"I had ordered a laptop from Gentechpc about 6 months ago, and had a pleasent shopping experience at that time, so I decided to order from them again for my new laptop.

When I ordered my previous laptop, I had decided to spend the $25 to have the thing assembled and tested. This time around, I decided to save the $25 and put it together myself.

The laptop arrived a day or two after I expected, but the delivery time wasn't bad. When I received the laptop, I promptly put the thing together only to find out that the laptop booted up, but nothing appeared on the screen. So, I took it into a local computer shop and asked if they could figure out the problem. After a few mins, they thought it might be the ram and tried using a 512 chip (rather then the 1 gig chip I had purcahsed). With the 512 chip the laptop booted up nicely.

I called Gentechpc back and informed them of the problem. They told me that since I didn't choose the option to have it assembled, the components (processor, memory, and network card) were new and not tested. Long story short, they walked me though a few troubleshooting steps, then we agreed that the memory was indeed corrupt, and if I sent it back to them they would replace it at no charge.

I mentioned to them that it was quite inconvient that I had to wait another week for the new memory after waiting for it to arrive, paying $10 to have it looked at by local computer guys, and paying for shipping the bad memory back to them. They acknowledged that things like this happen, and to help easy the inconvience, they would ship the memory overnight at no cost.

So, even though the memory was a manufactures problem, I was pleased that Gentechpc.com helped me out with the overnight shipping. That to me plays an important role in my shopping experience and customer support. They've always provided top notch customer for both laptops.

I will probably purcahse my next laptop with them because of the way they helped me out with the memory problem on this laptop.

"WARNING, PLEASE READ THIS!!! WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY FROM A LAPTOP FROM THIS SITE!!!

I recently purchased a laptop from GenTech computers (www.1toppc.com). The laptop came pretty quickly and this is when I'll my problems started. First, the laptop crashed twice during installs of software. This wasn't any special type of software, just standard windows stuff. Second, the laptop would reboot for no reason. I talked to a gentech representative, and he said to send it back in.

Being a software contractor, I need my laptop for work or I loose money, so I asked if we could do a cross-ship (like their site advertised). Gentech refused to follow their own policy, however after some bitching, finally agreed. I received the 2nd laptop a couple of weeks later, and this time the arrow keys don't work. WTF?!! Now I have two laptops (and two charged on my credit card) both not working correctly. I immediatley sent the 2nd laptop back and asked that he cover shipping. Of course they denied my request to cover the shipping. So now I'm out money for 1st laptop, plus shipping charges for 2nd. Gentech is telling me that I should have tried to FIX my laptop, and this is the reason they wont pay for shipping. WTF? I'm supposed to fix a brand new laptop?

Now Gentech is refusing to do another cross-ship (which they know is the only possibility because of my job). So I'm now stuck with a laptop that reboots and crashes. I'm now out money for 1 laptop, 1 shipping, and 1 service repair charge at a local store to diagnose and fix.

If your 'lucky', and get a good laptop from this site, then I'm happy for you. If you get one with a defect, like I did, WATCH OUT! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER OR DOING THE RIGHT THING, THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MAKING MONEY. Sad... very sad...

"Hi all,
I have had such a wonderful experience shopping with these people that a review of my whole experience to be shared with others is more than justified.I ordered on 02/21/2005 and my asus z80k barebone notebook shipped out on 02/22/2005 and I received it on 02/25/2005.Wow all within 5 business days, way faster than what I had expected.The product was very well packaged and the machine arrived in mint condition.Also contrary to some other reviews that I had read, gentech didn't forget to send the built on asus stciker.In fact the box was unopened and it was indeed a complete package inclusive of everything.Ken from gentech was very kind all throughout.In fact this being my first assembled notebook (and first notebook overall) I wasn't quite sure how to install the different components.The lack of manual from Asus didn't help either.So I called up Ken about 5 times in about 3 hours with an array of questions and he answered them all very patiently and helped me thru the assembly.Even after the purchase, Ken has been very kind.The wait time is nominal, the call is answered within 3 minutes unlike some other big oems.So far I m very happy with my purchase.Being a full time student and having limited resources, this laptop has to last me about 3 years at least until I find myself a job.In such a scenario, I am glad I decided to spend USD 1300/- buying from a company who cares about its customers more than anything else.I feel I m in safe hands.HAving said that, I do not have words to recommend them enough.All I can say is

BUY FROM GENTECH & U CAN'T GO WRONG!!!

- Asus Z80K Notebook

The Bad:
- 1 Dead Pixel

The Good:
- Accept Canadian Credit cards but you must fax copy of card + ID. A bit of a pain but I'd rather that then have to send in a money order.
- I had many questions and many concerns, but received prompt responses to my emails.
- Product was built and shipped in 3 days.
- Good Price. I found a couple other sites with *slightly* better prices, but I stuck with Gentech because of the customer service.

Notes:
- Haven't thoroughly tested out the machine yet, but will post later if I run into any problems. So far so good though, thanks Gentech!

" I ordered A Asus Z8000k Laptop from these guys the store front is www.gentechpc.com (for complete systems) but if you buy barebones or parts the redirect you to http://1toppc.com . Its the same company though. Anyway everthing went well cept for the fact that they didn't update thier order status screen I finaly called 7 days later after I ordered it and 3 days after they charged my CC & they said it shipped the day after I ordered it, no one updated the status page or e-mailed me!
A oversight for sure! I got it the next day on the doorstep free shipping. For right before X-mas cross country took 8 days from the day I ordered it, not too bad. Everthing is what I paid for and other than the no update or e-mail everthing went fine.

P.s When I did call the customer service they were very friendly & helpful & e-mailed me A invoice with A tracking number, as well as updated my processing page.

"I ordered the asus m6bne, as well as the CD-RW/DVD combo, and the intel 802.11bg. It took one week exactly to arrive (free shipping). Everything was well packed and the cd-rw/dvd was already installed.
I had never installed anything in a notebook before, so I called gentech's tech support a few different times during the process, and I never had to wait to speak to anyone. The man was very helpful and patient and even talked me few of the parts I was having problems with. I am really happy with the laptop, and the folks at gentech. I would definatly order from there again. Also for the m6bne they had by *far* the best price. Its a good place.

"I've bought hundreds of computer related parts over the net for the past years, and after dealing with gentech pc, this is one of the vendor that i will continue to do business with. To start off, their quick same day reply to emails for all my questions and their expertise on the subject over the phone have already won me over before i ordered. I ordered a barebone asus m2n on monday, and i just received it now on wednesday as i am writing this, all assembled and ready to go. This is just amazing, not to mention i mistakenly chose the wrong "install option" when i was ordering, not only did they change it for me and didn't even charge me for the higher install price(which i did not need) this isn't the service you'll get anywhere else, go ahead and order from gentech. you won't regret it, i am very very happy with this purchase."
