I was in need of a new honda eu2000is generator for an upcoming job. Didn't have the time in the week I had to go buy one "locally", and sending an employee on the 1+hr drive each way, plus gas, plus lost productivity …well…was going to add at least a few hundred dollars to the price.
So, since maxtool was 8hrs away- 2 day ground shipping I chose to order from them rather then one of my normal sources. Big mistake.
I placed the order online on a sunday night. Get a "your order has been approved" confirmation message and email- and my card was charged.
Tuesday morning I get an email- due to a "glitch" they had no idea what I ordered. So I had to waste a half hour looking up the item number and calling them. Then they tell me they need the card info as well. Ok…
That evening I get a call they can't confirm the phone number associated with the card. (I do much of my shopping online and have NEVER had this problem). I honestly had no idea what number my bank had on file. I haven't set foot in a branch or talked to an employee in years. I have their app on my phone. Get text alerts. Get emails. this IS the 21st century. So back online to check with my bank. I see that the number they have is my old home number from when I still had a home line. But they just need to verify the phone number on file right? (and if I update it on my banks site how long will that take to show to a merchant?). So I give them the number and they say they will confirm it with the bank and call me right back if any problem. No call back so all's good right?
Next day (wedsneday) comes and goes and no shipping notification. So just before their customer service closes I call. Sure enough- "the number you gave us is disconnected. Passed this off to a manager- they may approve it but their gone for the day." They'll call you in the morning.
No call in the morning (thursday) so I call them. And get the brush off. "looks like its confirmed or maybe being confirmed and will ship later today. Won't pass me up the line and essentially hangs up on me. I'm too busy…wait until late afternoon- no shipping notification. Am told definitely yes it was all worked out and will ship out tonight…or maybe tomorrow.
Friday evening now and no shipping notification. Didn't realize their customer (dis)service closed at 3:30 on fridays. So now I am looking at, at best, not getting it until wednseday or later. When I should have had it absolutely no later then thursday or friday.
So now, on my one day "off" during the week, I have to spend 2 1/2-3hrs to go buy the item I should already have. And spend another $1k+ I should not have to spend.
Hands down my worst online shopping experience ever. And as a side note- The same day this saga started I ordered another similarly priced item from one of their competitors in the midwest. Same card, all the same info used. (It was a smaller/lighter item so express shipping was not as oribant as it would have been on the gen). Item arrived wednesday with no problems.
I will never, ever do business with maxtool again. Absolutely no effort on their part to work through this nonsense
I will update this once I see how cancelling my order and getting a refund goes.
