"I bought an Asus S5N from ProPortable. Good aspects of the service:

Quick turnaround. Got what I wanted in very short order.

Parts availabilty: they had the latest and greatest CPU's and memory available. This matters when you want your laptop to be futureproof for as long as possible.

Price. Very good pricing.

Problem with ProPortable:

Assembly. I got the laptop and Windows XP was only partially installed (computer would not boot up). I needed to wipe the drive then reinstall Windows XP THEN reinstall all the ancillary programs and drivers that Asus requires. I knew enough about computers to do this, but if I didn't, I'd be in very bad shape. I honestly don't know why ProPortable took 3 days to build this thing if all they were going to do is slot in a CPU and a memory module. That sounds like a 15 minute job to me. The software setup is the real work and that was left to me."

"I had an amazing experience with ProPortable. I was in the market for an Asus S5N for college next year, and came across ProPortable in my search for the best price. They charged as much as $800 LESS than other online retailers.

One of the best customer support ideas they have is an AIM account that buyers can use to ask questions and chat with someone from the company. I talked to a person named Sean there, who was an incredible help in deciding to buy the laptop. He had an M5N which is very similar to the S5N, and he even pointed out some of the shortcomings of the model I was interested in. He (or someone else) is usually on the AIM account all day, sometimes even past midnight. They are always happy to answer any questions, no matter how picky (I wanted to know EVERY little detail, I don't know how they managed to put up with me).

In the end, I decided to buy the laptop. They built it in TWO DAYS and it arrived by FedEx 2-day two days later. That is unheard of in buying laptops online. Places like Dell and Sony take much longer to fulfill custom orders.

I ordered mine without an OS, with the intention of installing both XP Pro and Linux on it. If you are interested, there are many sites out there dedicated to installing Linux on this very model. They are both installed and working perfectly (aside from a few minor bugs in linux, mainly with the card reader). The installation was painless, and I am extremely happy with this 2.8lb, .7" thick notebook.

ProPortable is the best!"

"I just receieved my M68000N notebook and I am so happy with it. I am a college student, so I needed it to fulfill my needs at school, as well as in Italy when i go abroad in the spring. My dad bought a notebook from him a few months ago and he loves it, so I am sure that this will meet my expectations. "Having had my PocketPC die on me, I started researching not only who developed the best PDAs but who sold them as well. All my information lead straight to ASUS and PROPortable.

Over the course of two weeks, the folks at PROPortable answered all of my pre-sales email professionally and extremely fast. It was obvious to me that these folks were more than just working sales, they had excellent knowledge of and believed in the products that they sell.
