I have been going to the powernotebooks.com site and spec’ing out a system for over nine months and finally made the big move a week ago and ordered a Sager NP6160 ULTRA. I emailed Don Stratton when I first started looking and told him I was only “browsing around” and he emailed back within a few hours answering my questions without any pressure to buy.

My only apprehension with buying from powernotebooks was the way they take payment. My financial advisor (wife) wasn’t too keen on sending money though paypal or the other options to pay for the system. I have to admit, I was gun-shy as well. However, let’s think about it, how many companies actually give you the option to save the 2 ½% the credit card companies automatically charged the business for using their system? I don’t know of any. Do you? You see, credit card companies charge ALL businesses 2 ½% just for the service they provide to the business. Therefore, all prices are jacked up the 2 ½% to make up for the service fee whether you use a credit card or not. You don’t think the businesses will take it in the shorts for your business do you? Of course not. Wherever you buy, no matter where you buy, you are paying that service fee. I believe it speaks highly of powernotebooks to give you the option. That said, I would recommend talking to your sales rep to find out which option is best for you. Read their payment options page http://www.powernotebooks.com/payment.php3 and consider all avenues. I went though paypal which ended up adding three or four days for the money to clear. Most banks easily allow wire transfer through their internet banking system. Also of note here is how Sheri kept me abreast of everything in my payment process.

My system arrived on the day it was promised. It was double-boxed and very well packed. The system is as tight as a drum. The pictures don’t do it justice. I’ve bought a new Dell and Gateway laptops and I have to say the Sager is every bit as solid as they were. The setup was easy and didn’t have a single problem. I couldn’t say the same about Dell or Gateway. At work, we just received new IBM T-Series Thinkpads and couldn’t believe how poorly packed they were. Of the eight we received, none of their DVDs came working so we have to go though the warranty baloney right from the start.

The screen is crystal clear and sharp as a tack. The keys are nicely placed and have great feel. It's got everything I needed in a desktop replacement while being at the price of an economy laptop.

Long story short (too late), you won’t be disappointed if you buy from powernotebooks. They are an upstanding company with integrity and professionalism. They even remember something Dell, Gateway, and IBM have seemingly forgotten…the customer is king. Good day."

"PowernoteBooks.com has a web site that allows you to get a detailled view at the specification of their products. Their "Custom build your laptop" makes it very easy to create your dream machine. After submitting a specification via their website I was able to quickly speak with one of their sales representatives which was resourceful in answering my questions and get back to me after some further research on some features I was interested in. I've bought a lot of tech stuff off the web over the years and I have to say that this has been the most satisfying transaction I've experienced.

I'm a pretty serious tech geek--I supported both bankers and traders for a major NY investment bank for 3 years (thank heavens that's over, hehe).

These guys do it right. They realize they are in a commodity business, and the only way to differentiate themselves from the competition is to provide not only a fine product, but to give superlative customer service.

Changing the order was no problem. Donald called me back 5 minutes after my e-mail to them on Monday morning and took time to explain the benefits and drawbacks of the available options. It was so nice not to have some ignorant telemarketer trying to upsell me fluff.

All in, I paid $1,800 for something I could only find elsewhere for over $2,500.

Communications were exemplary, Donald, Shari and CJ were really on the ball.

The packaging was excellent and I got it UPS in 2 days instead of 3. Everything works perfectly, and I was especially pleased with the performance of the built in Wi-Fi. I really like the fact that the box isn't a proprietary build like a Dell, HP or IBM, etc. No dumb icons that you would never use cluttering up and your workspace and bloating your registry with crap.

I thought from the jpegs on the website that the unit might look a little "cheesy" but I was wrong. The design is elegant, functional and sturdy. I've bonded with this toy instantly.
