"I am not one to arbitrarily write reviews as I feel good customer service and a quality product should be a given in today's consumer society; however, I found my recent experience with PowerNotebooks.com worthy of mention.

I was asked to provide a computer for a relative that lives in a country that does not have access to the quality of computers we are fortunate to have in the United States. I quickly found that the computer would not be available in the time I needed it through normal commercial means (IE: online stores, local custom shops, etc.) and I was recommended to PowerNotebooks.com.

I called PowerNotebooks.com and within a few minutes, Mr. Donald Stratton compiled the necessary components into a laptop that exceeded expectations and was a lower cost than previously referenced computers. And, if that was not simple enough, Mr. Stratton directed me to the arrangement to pay cash directly into a local bank's account and the laptop would be shipped immediately (by immediately, the order was placed on a Friday, paid for on a Saturday, the computer shipped that Monday and delivered that Wednesday).

I would normally not have even entertained the thought of paying an item with cash directly into a bank account; however, I researched and documented the path and found it was a path worth taking with PowerNotebooks.com. Everything Mr. Stratton offered and promised was right on target and I will not hesitate to work with PowerNotebooks.com again.

"Since 2004, I purchased 5 notebooks from PowerNotebooks.com. I just received my ASUS G73JH-A1 Gaming Laptop (i7-720QM @ 1.6~2.8GHz /w 12 GB RAM, ATI HD 5870 /w 1 GB RAM, OCZ 120GB Solid-State Drive + 500GB 7,200 RPM HD). The package was well wrapped in 3 boxes: one box originally from Asus containing the notebook, another box containing the notebook and the backpack carrying case, and one more box to absorb any shipping damages. The whole package was surprisingly small.
This computer is much faster than my previous Core2 Duo T7600 @ 2.33GHz. I use the application Super PI for CPU benchmarks. This application displays the time to compute the number PI with 8 million digits after the decimal point. Super PI runs on a single (thread) processor, so a processor like the i7-720QM which has 4 cores and capable to run 8 threads simultaneously, would give better benchmark on a program capable to do parallelism, such as audio or video encoding/decoding.
i7 720 QM @ 1.60GHz: 3 minutes 5 seconds (185 seconds)
Core2 Duo T7600 @ 2.33GHz: 4 minutes 48 seconds (288 seconds = 56% more time)
Pentium 4 3.00GHz: 8 minutes 40 seconds (520 seconds = 281% more time)
I am very happy with this computer. Mr. Donald Stratton told me the hybrid hard drives are not as good as the review say because of the caching algorithm. Instead, he recommended a solid state drive plus a second hard regular hard drive. He was right. With the new computer, it takes about 5 seconds to boot Windows 7. It is quite impressive. I am also glad I purchased the "Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200 Wireless Card". With my old computer (Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g), I get ping ranging from 1 ms to 150 ms, with an average of about 60 ms just to ping the local router (192.168.0.1), while with the new wireless card, I get ping ranging from 1 ms to 5 ms with an average of 1 ms. Both computers are side by side on my desk, and the router is about 20 feet (6 meters) away.
The video card is also much better. With my Core2 Duo having an nVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX w/512MB, I had to set all the graphic settings to low to get good frame rate playing Starcraft 2. Now, I can set all the graphic settings to high and get the same FPS.
This new computer is AMAZINGLY quiet. When I play, I hear nothing, while my other computers I can hear the fan. The Core2 Duo is still quiet compared to my old notebook I purchased in 1998.
The only thing I dislike is the keyboard layout. The arrow keys are too narrow and are in the middle of the keyboard. I really like when the arrow keys are sticking out of the keyboard a bit, similar as the keyboard of my previous computer, however nobody builds those keyboards anymore. I would gladly pay $100 more to have a keyboard with big arrow keys, however all models had the same keyboard layout. This has nothing to do with PowerNotebooks, however I want to express my desire to have the option to buy a good keyboard layout. On my new model, the arrow keys are the narrowest keys on the entire keyboard. I use the arrow all the time, more than any other keyboard key, and it would make sense to make those keys easy to distinguish by the touch of my fingers (similar as the letter F and J).
Another thing I would like is higher screen resolution. On my older Core2 Duo, I had 1920 by 1200 and now I have 1920 by 1080, which is 120 pixels less. I would not mind paying extra to have a screen resolution at 1920 by 1400.

"When I was searching for a new laptop (Windows 7, i7-720 processor with 6+GB memory and a good graphics card) that could outperform options from your standard sources for PC's, I found PowerNotebooks. Without any commitment from me, their sales rep spent nearly an hour reviewing options and configuration considerations, which led to a confident decision to choose a solid state hard drive. It was early in my search, so I made some comparisons.
