"I was very happy with my Sager computer put together by Puget Computers for 377 days before a fatal system error killed the computer. At 12 days past warranty, the motherboard had completely fried, beginning a $570 repair necessary and reshippment back to Sager. Five (5) months later, my computer was shipped to an old address not on the service ticket and the laptop still had problems with the primary DVD player, which was noted they would charge additional to repair (at 5 months downtime, this should have been a part of the "above and beyond" service.

I purchased the computer and paid the premium price for excellent customer service and an expected trouble-free experience since I have had problems with HP and Gateway in the past. To be fair, I did drop the computer in my backpack at the office, and my problems started about a month afterwards, but 5 months for a repair and HD upgrade? Come on. The computer sat in their office for two week because they did not have another power supply for the laptop and an additional two weeks to reinstall the OS. Many may have had a great experience with Puget, but Dude, you should have got a Dell.

“Shane -

We are sorry for your poor experience. However, there are a few inaccuracies with your review. The repair process took three months -- we received your laptop on 3/14/07, and we shipped it back to you on 6/13/07. Of that time, two months were spent trying to reach you for instructions or to authorize repair charges -- including emailing you, calling your cell, calling your office, and leaving messages with your secretary. Your normal response time was approximately two weeks. We do feel that one month is still a very long repair time, which we regret. However, 5 months is not accurate, and misrepresents the situation. Our execution time at every step was within 24-48 hours once we were able to contact you.

We also tested and confirmed functionality on your DVD player, despite your written instructions to not repair the drive.

It is unfortunate for a laptop to fail only a few weeks outside warranty. Like you mentioned, dropping the laptop probably played a large role in the failure.”

"As someone who has built custom computers for my own use in the past, I am overwhelmed by the care and professionalism that I experienced in dealing with Puget. Their sales staff was helpful and informative; and the product that I received was the highest quality computer that I have ever purchased.

I am also a person who has purchsed multiple computers from the top direct-to-consumer companies in the space. While they provide a quick build, the quality is low and feels and performs very much like it came from an assembly line.

I was also blown away by the care that Puget took in shipping my system. The quality of the packaging was awesome, and the unit arrived in perfect condition.

Bottom line is: if you care about the quality of the components that go into your computer and the care with which it is assembled, Puget rocks!

"Founded by former University of Washington student Jon Bach, PCC has been in business for about 7 years now. I think the small size of the company is one of its biggest strengths and weaknesses. The website design is simple and straightforward, without the clutter that other companies have. What comes across is a sense of a personalized experience. The website has a forum where you can discuss your computer configuration and other issues. They even have a site where you can look at the employee bios. Customer service is very, very good. The website allows you the option of having a sales representative look over your computer and give recommendations. They respond very quickly, usually within 24 hrs. Build time is ridiculously fast and you can check the status of each part online, as well as track the completed computer after it has been shipped. The company also performs benchmark tests that you can look over.
Overall selection is good, although it varies depending on what component you are looking at.
The major con is price. Compared to its larger competitors like Velocity Micro, ABS, etc, it's definitely pricier, by at least $200-400 for the rig. Not as bad as Dell and comparable to Alienware, but still, pricey. They also don't have much in way of accessories (monitor, keyboard, mouse) compared to other competitors, which I think is probably related to the size of their company. Shipping costs will probably become prohibitive if you are ordering a monitor as well. It's a shame they don't have a deal with another company that could sent the accessories separately.
Standard warranty is lifetime labor and a 1 year parts, which is good, but, personally, I wish the parts warranty was longer.
The custom computer industry is becoming increasingly saturated, if not already saturated, and it's probably becoming more and more important for a company to distinguish itself from the rest of the pack. As the company continues to grow, I wonder what it will end up as and how much control the founder will be able to maintain in day-to-day operations and continuing the personal touch.

"Wow! In a world now rife with cynicism, bottom-line greed and a general decline in workplace ethics, Puget Custom Computers is apparently the only star in an otherwise black and empty sky.

It was refreshing to be able to talk with someone knowledgeable who was not out to sell me something, whether I needed it or not. First Perry, and then Richard, patiently answered all of my many questions. They always did so with an equal dose of candor and knowledge. Even later, after I had already placed my order, they pleasantly received my requests for a couple of changes to the order.

Once the order was in progress, I got to "watch" so to speak as my computer was being built. It was both fascinating and reassuring to watch onliine as they updated the individual steps in the progress of my order. Their checklist further reassured me that they took pride in their work.

Ordered late on a Friday, I received my completed computer the very next Friday. What I found when I opened the box was every bit of what I expected to find: a quality product built by quality people. From the way they handled pre-sale questions, to the careful steps they took in building it, to the care they showed packaging my computer, I had no doubt I had made the right choice in buying from PCC.

Without hesitation, I would heartily recommend this company even to someone who knew nothing about computers. That takes trust and PCC has earned it mightily! Thanks guys, you're the best.

"From what I read about Puget Computers, my level of expectation was very high. I am pleased to say they met and exceeded that expectation! Rarely, in this day and age does a company go above and beyond superior customer service. I received a reply to my initial contact within a couple of hours. Their representative was very courteous and knowledgeable, and provided suggestions to make my computer better to fit my needs. I received updates throughout the build process and a personal email from president, Jon Bach, to let me know of a minor glitch in my motherboard that resulted in a very short delay in shipment. My system was completed and shipped the very next day and arrived within a week of order confirmation. I highly recommend Puget to anyone desiring a top notch computer system! "

"I found that Puget Systems provided a level of professionalism, support, and ability to far exceed expectations that is sorely lacking in any service related industry. In a day when people are unable to count back change without the assistance of a calculator, this is a company that counts back change by actually counting, and do so with an extremly high degree of courtesy. They went far and away to seperate themselves stand apart from any company, much less a computing sotre, that I have seen in years. Have no fear, and even if you do, they back their word up with a 30 day no questions asked guarantee."

"I was looking for a company that could build and support a system running Linux. I worked with their Sales Manager to configure a desktop system with the latest Ubuntu Linux distro and customized hardware configuration. Throughout the process their staff was very responsive and knowledgeable, and their website had links that kept me informed of not only the status of my system as it was being built and tested but also information on individual parts being used to build it. I'm anxiously awaiting the system now as it's traveling via FedEx Air...again, tracked from a link on their site!"
