"There is so much scum out there, it's not even funny. It seems that these days online retailers only have one goal in mind: to get your money and then ship you used/scratched/damaged item.
It's refreshing to know that RytherCamera is different,I really value your professionalism and integrity."
"Customer service for Ryther camera is excellent. Fast and reliable, I purchased a digital SLR camera and I am very happy with the service. Keep up the good work. Will surely visit this website for my future purchase."
"I ordered a Nikon D5100 from Ryther two and a half weeks prior to when I needed it for a special event. Like others, I chose the free shipping thinking I would have it in seven to nine business days as stated on the website before you order. Once I ordered and entered my credit card information, I got an email stating that shipping would take up to two a half weeks and that I could upgrade shipping or cancel my order and pay a 3% transaction fee if my credit card had already been charged.
I called Ryther to upgrade my shipping and was told for $30, I would have the camera no later than two a half weeks later. Huh? Adding the $30 shipping charge to ensure the camera by when I needed it made the camera the same price as the nearest competitor, which is a well known company.
I went ahead with the order, and the salesman then informed me that I was ordering the international version of the camera and that if I wanted the US version, it would be $50 more. I originally agreed not fully understanding what that meant.
After I did some research, I found out what an international versus US version means, and I was livid that this wasn't mentioned anywhere in the product specs.
I called to cancel my order and had to leave a voicemail. The owner of the company called me back, and it was one of the WORST experiences with a company I've ever dealt with. The owner LIED to me and said that he had already charged my credit card. He then lied to me and stated that the cameras are clearly marked as international or US versions. In the end, he offered to meet the competitor's price, but there is no way I would give money to these dishonest people. The owner said he was going to update his site to boldly list which cameras and lenses are US versions and which versions are international. He also said he would update the shipping information to inform people that there is additional processing time. Although the website does now have two different versions of the D5100 listed, it doesn't say plainly or boldly what the differences are. And of course the shipping information isn't updated a month after I ordered.
I would NEVER recommend these people. They are totally dishonest. After I threatened to call the BBB, my credit card was never charged. (There have been 15 complaints to the New Jersey BBB in the past 12 months, for the record.)"
"I purchased a camera package that was advertised online. The following day a rep called me to verify my address... then the upselling began. I was already spending $2400+ and wasn't interested in the other stuff they were trying to sell me. I was asked if I wanted a US camera or a Gray Market camera... of course I said I preferred the US model. They then quoted me a price $400+ more. I then said I'd take the Gray... I was then told that the camera, lens, and all the manuals would be in another language. I asked which one (figuring I could easily change camera menus... and I'm bilingual in Spanish). I was told "Asian." Ummm... yeah. I cancelled the order and was then placed on hold. The rep then came back on a couple minutes later and told me that his manager was listening in and I could have the US model for $100 less. Ugh. No way.
For comparison's sake, I could buy the US model of the camera and lens for the same $2800 from http://Amazon.com or directly from Canon without these headaches. Ryther Camera is a bait and switch scam operation."
"We are so pleased with Ryther Camera. We felt that they gave us special attention ! They answered all of our questions & concerns with much patience. With as much as we called them to ask questions they were always there for us. They were great with fair pricing, they have a great selection, and their customer service is fantastic and can not be exceeded !
We would advise anyone that if you ever need cameras, lens or other equipment be sure to check out Ryther Camera first ! They will walk the extra mile for you !"
"Overall got the camera at a great price. Product arrived when expected. Company is very concerned with customer service and with maintaining their rating."
"I purchased a Canon 60D package from Ryther. I was admitedly hesitant because of all the bait and switch schemes on the internet. I have to say that I now have complete confidence in their business and will gladly order from them in the future. I recieved my package in aproximately 10 days from the date of order. The only thing I would say is that their shipping and handling rate was $70 which I think is a bit high. All in all though, I got everything I ordered and it arrive as described on the website. I did recieve a remote for the camera that was not compatible with my model, but a quick phone call to the store resulted in a wireless version of the remote being sent to me at no extra charge. Great job guys, I'm very impressed!"
"Camera arrived just as I expected it at a GREAT price. My wife is very happy with this camera. BEWARE: the free shipping is VERY slow and expect a telephone call asking if you want to upgrade the battery, etc. Salesman was not pushy-just an unconventional tactic that I was not expecting. "
"I bought a Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens from Ryther. On the plus side, the lens was about $100 less than the competition and it arrived as promised. On the minus, the lens arrived in a plain cardboard box which makes me think it was either grey market or reconditioned, something that was not indicated on the website. There was no manual or anything. I've used it for a couple of months now though and it seems fine. It's a good lens."
"I have been very disappointed thus far with the service and policies at Ryther Camera. I placed my order for a Canon T3i body on 8/22/11. I chose this company because of the competitive price and "Free Shipping." A few days later I received an email stating I needed to call to confirm my order. Upon speaking to the rep I was asked for my credit card number again because "for some reason it didn't go through." I (against my better judgement) gave the number and then proceeded to refuse all the rep's attempts at up-selling me on warranties, batteries, and SD cards. I did expect these sales tactics as I had read reviews of such, and although obnoxious, I didn't mind the slight inconvenience too much. What really upset me was when the rep told me that my new total was $22 more than previously agreed upon. When asked, he explained that the additional cost was for "handling and insurance" which isn't included in the free USPS shipping so he had to switch me to Fed Ex. I am assuming that the company needed my card number to change the sales price and not actually because it "didn't go through." This is false advertising and adding $22 to my order for handling and insurance obviously covers the complete shipping costs as well and thus the shipping is not free at all. Additionally for $22 I would expect some decent shipping, not 7-9 business days.
Additionally, I was told that as part of my Fed Ex "upgrade" I would be receiving a tracking number. I have yet to receive that number and it has been a whopping 10 business days since my order. My confirmation email states that item would be shipped in 2-3 days. I have been checking my order and see that it says "Sent Out to Be Shipped," which I am not sure if means that it has or has not been shipped. I called and spoke to someone who stated that it had indeed been shipped but it would take some time before it would update in the system.
If an item requires insurance and handling that should be part of the "Free Shipping." Not an additional charge. I am eager to receive my new camera and am very frustrated at the additional charges as well as the lack of tracking number. I have emailed the company and received no response. I called today to check on my order and was told of "internet issues," and they took my number to call me back. Big surprise, I have not received any return calls yet.
I am really hoping that my order arrives tomorrow or at the very least that the company will return my attempts at communication.
Update 9/14/11:
After posting this review I finally received a response from Ryther Camera. It seems as if they are very concerned about their appearance on the web. After days of no response to my email, the company rep has called me several times. The rep explained that the delay was due to the hurricane and an issue with their drop-shipping. So all the time that my order status was saying "sent out to be shipped" I guess that meant they were waiting for it to arrive to them to ship it to me...slightly deceptive I think, since they had assured me it had been shipped when it had in fact not even arrived at their store yet. He told me that it would be sent FedEx Express as soon as possible due to the delays. He assured me my camera would arrive by Friday 9/9 and it did - 18 days after my original order.
As an apology for the delays, the rep offered to upgrade my free camera bag from a $5 bag to a $15 bag for my wait. I informed him I would prefer to get my $22 of inflated shipping costs back and he agreed. I received this credit yesterday.
The rep also informed me that I should understand that they are a small company and are better than other companies who purposely delay shipping when customers refuse the up-selling attempts. He stated that they had upgraded me to the USA warranty camera. I told him that prior to purchasing I had made sure that the camera had USA warranty. He stated that this only means "USA store warranty." Again, tricky practices if you ask me.
The camera arrived and was in perfect new condition, but although I only purchased the T3i body, the camera came in a box that originally contained the camera kit (body + lens) and had the lens removed. I believe this should have been specified in the listing as I have seen this at other vendors.
In summary, I think that you may be able to get decent service and products from this company if you are either lucky or complain on this site when you are disappointed. The rep was extremely attentive via phone ever since I posted this review and also encouraged me to amend this review as it looked bad for them.
I am happy that I have my very nice camera and got a good price. However, if I had it to do all over again I think I would spend the additional money and buy from a more trustworthy company to save myself the phone calls, emails, reviews, and headaches!
"
"Product arrived quick and hassle free. Price was good 10% lower than others.
Customer service is easy and quick to reach over the phone.
Over all great site, I will use again. "
"Overall customer service was pretty good but it felt like it was only because we reviewed it poorly due to the shipping taking an extremely long amount of time. The equipment is as described and they answered questions that we had. We do love the camera. If you want to get a product any sooner than 14 business days, be safe and just pay for the faster shipping. We made the mistake of the "free shipping" offer but it wasn't worth the wait. It was sat on for two weeks until we made several phone calls. I will give Ryther credit they did try to right there wrong and the camera is great."
"I ordered the nikon d5000 with the standard 18-55mm lens on thursday 8/25/2011. One of the employees, Victor, called me on sunday 8/28/2011 to ask if I wanted any additional accessories and/or upgrade my battery, he then stated that free shipping would take approximatly 2 weeks and my order had not been processed yet. He offered to upgrade my shipping to 3 day shipping fully insured for $30.00, which i agreed to. I emailed the company on monday to ask about a tracking number and never recieved a response. I called on wednesday to inquire about a tracking number and "Victor" stated he would email it to me, another email I never recieved. I called again on thursday and spoke with a gentlemen who was very helpful who looked up my order through their system who stated I would have the camera that day and provided me with the tracking number over the phone. Like the man said, I recieved that day on 9/1/2011 and everything was included and worked great. Overall a trustworth company except the fact they do not return any emails (maybe their system went down). I recommend ordering from this company just don't choose the free shipping option if you don't have any patience. I would order from this company again. "
"Overall, a great experience. I ordered a DSLR body last minute and wanted to get it before my trip to Europe. I got a confirmation call from a gentleman at Ryther that day. Not only was he able to ensure I'd received it on time, he informed me about a few really great promotions for accessories and warrantees that I was going to pick up along the way. I ended up getting everything I needed for my trip at far and away the best price around.
I would totally recommend Ryther for their prices, and service!"
"I ordered a lens at a very good price and received it yesterday. Today I saw the same lens on their website for $40 less. I had dealt with customer service and they were very helpful but they wouldn't match their new price. Although I felt that the original price I paid was good it bothers me that I could have saved $40 by waiting a couple of days. They should have a 30 day guarantee or something."
