Once they realized I was not interested in upgrades, they told me that there was a mandatory $19.95 insurance policy on shipping. I told him to cancel my order and he was a little TOO HAPPY to do it. I think that is because they really did not want to sell me the item at that low price if I did not upgrade. I purchased a camera online (it was $16 less than amazon w/ free shipping). A few days later I get a call from them to "verify" my purchase. The model I purchased was suposively the "whosale model" with a battery that had 1/8 the life of the "retail model" battery, and they wanted to charge me $59 extra for the "upgraded" battery.
When I mentioned that amazon was only $16 more, they offered to match their price.
I cancelled the order."

This is a joke shop in Brooklyn. The item is probably not in stock even if website says it is. Website says "call to exepedite an order" so I did so and they told me to order online instead. They then called me the next day to try and upsell the order. They called me 4 days later to say that the order was not processed yet. On the fifth day, I called to verify it was shipped. To my shock, I was told that the item was not in stock. I asked for a supervisor and got the rudest person on the phone who yelled at me for actually questioning about the item being in stock. I had to pay rush shipping so I would get the item in the 7 days that I originally planned for when I purchased from the website.

"Unilaterally canceled my order after I declined to listen to the upselling. As others have described, the company asked me to call them after I placed an online order, then proceeded to try to upsell me on accessories. I asked them not to and soon after the phone call got an email telling me the order had been canceled.
This company has also done business as Broadway Photo -- a search for reviews under that name will confirm the bad news you're reading here.
Also note the dates on the reviews here -- all of the good reviews are dated 2004 and earlier. That's when Top Choice Digital shut down and moved out of the Brooklyn offices they occupied. It looks like Broadway Photo is trying to reuse the name of a defunct but somewhat reputable business."
"Avoid at all costs. This place is a scam with mean, aggressive customer service that you are required to deal with on all orders.
I attempted to order an AV receiver and got an email stating that I was required to call before they could process the order. The call consists of a hard sell on accessories and warranty. I told them I just wanted the item. The next day I get an email telling me that it is out of stock. I called in to ask if I could get one before telling them my order number, they said yes it's in stock, then i give them my order number and they tell me that it's not in stock.
I talk to a manager who continually talks over me and doesn't let me get a single word in saying that I had ordered an international version, even though it doesn't say anything about international versions on the product page, and that the use version is more expensive.
I ended up talking to several people, all of who were aggressive, unapologetic, and rude. When I finally told them to cancel my order, they simply hung up on me.
AVOID AT ALL COST"
"Very dishonest company. I received an email saying I had to call to verify an order I placed. They wanted to sell me a $69.99 upgrade because the product is out of date. Also, they were going to add about $20.00 "for handling" on free shipping! An order of about $200 was suddenly about $300. When I said "cancel the order", they back peddled saying they would reduce (and later say drop) the handling charge. Their fundamental dishonesty caused me to cancel the order and buy from someome else.
I can only recommend against dealing with them."
"VERY bad experience: They upsell you aggressively by phone, then change the terms! Charged $41 to ship a 4 lb. box via UPS ground WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION (Shipping for orders over $100 was advertised as free). Shipping it back cost $11 with insurance. Miscalculated and overcharged NY sales tax. Charged 15% restocking fee for a return. Site says "minimum 5% restock fee." Charged $250 for about $100 worth of accessories. - BUYERS BEWARE."
"Same exact experience as many others here. Had to call to confirm the order. Was on hold for a while, then the guy (who ends up being a jerk) answers with "hello." First sign this was a shady company. Then proceeds to upsell me... have to tell him 5 times, I only want to buy the camera from you. He then asks me what B&H is charging, I tell him, he gives me a "final" total which is now $1099 including shipping and insurance, $150 more than the site said I'd pay last night. A completely contrived number. I then tell him I want to cancel the order, he then yells at me and says I should go spend more money at B&H.

"I ordered a Canon EOS Koiss X2 Camera. The price shown on the web site and at check out was $575. They charged me $639,99. Reason: the model at the web site is a Japanese version. There was no indication of that at all. I feel being betrayed! I would not recommend doing any business with this company"
"Found a Garmin Edge 705 for the lowest price via froogle. After placing order they requested that I call them to "verify" it. Upon calling I received several minutes of pressure from the salesman to add add'l accessories that were in fact already included in the box.
On receiving my credit card statement I noticed a $20 higher charge than quoted. Further investigation showed that none of the purchase mails nor packing slip had the price details. On calling them back to investigate this I learned they had a $20 charge for "handling" on all items that qualified for free shipping. Apparently the salesman on the phone had crammed that message in at the end of the call.
This was a Very dishonest practice and Top Choice Digital did not make it right."
"A day after ordering a $2300 projector (which was about $200 cheaper than anywhere else) they called to "verify". First they tried the upsell as others have reported and the rep. kindly took "no" for an answer.
Then came the bait-and-switch. I was told that, although shipping was free, they needed to add on an additional 9% insurance charge for shipping on the east coast (I'm in NC). This came to over $200.
This put it about the same price as other stores, but I told the rep. to cancel the order for being devious :^) "
"I was looking to buy a Sanyo Xacti HD1010 video camera and found the lowest price to be at Top Choice Digital. The price was SIGNIFICANTLY less than any other store had to offer. I read all the awful reviews yet was willing to give them a shot due to how much less the price was.
So I placed the order on September 16th and got the confirmation email telling me to call them to "expedite" the order. I was ready for the bait and switch and while they did try to upsell me a battery and media card I just said no thanks and that was that. Two days later I had not heard back from them at all and my worst fears started to set in. I emailed them and told them I never received shipping confirmation and to let me know by the end of the day or I would have my order canceled through my CC company.
It was about 4pm and I was thinking I had made an awful decision to go with them and all of a sudden our shipping and receiving manager came to my desk with a box.
IT WAS THE CAMERA!!! It only took TWO days to get here and the shipping was free. They sent me the correct unit with all included accessories!!!
The box of the camera did seem like it had been opened but everything was in there and the camera works GREAT.
I was completely blown away and will use these certainly use them in the future."

Turns out they just wanted a chance to upsell me on accessories, but to them no means yes. I told them several times "just the lens" but they kept saying things like "you're going to spend this much on a lens and not get the warranty?" or "if you don't get the protective UV filter your pictures will look bad". Upon getting me on the phone they tried to upsell me on filters and warranties and then eventually told me they would get it right out to me. The next day I got a call from them trying to sell me the same thing. Again saying they would process the order. 8 days into it I emailed them and they said I had to call in to confirm the order and again got an upsell speech. 10 days into it I called again and they told me the product was on backorder and it would ship in a few days. The following day I got an email telling me the product wasn't available and cancelled my order."
