A Common Problem with Tradesy: A Double Standard with Buyers and Sellers

"One day, i sold a brand new channel ring. A few day later the item was returned to me damaged and Tradsey accused me or misrepresenting the item as new. They told me the pictures don't represent the item accurately when in fact, they have prior to it being damaged.
Their response was that the item was returned within 24hours (as if it takes 24 hours to damage something). The people who responded to me seem to not have any trust towards my word as they kept making accusations of misrepresentation. In actuality i have no reason to lie when i sell items as it really won't benefit me because of polices in place. But the same cannot be said for the buyers.
When i was reading over their policy regarding this issue i finally realized how unprotected the sellers are on this site. "YOU EXPRESSLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT TRADESY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR...ANY DAMAGES," Their is absolutely no protection for sellers. But the buyers could take advantage of these loopholes of the sellers. All they have to do is damage an item, and in effect they get money as opposed to a store credit, so their is no deterrent for buyers from doing these things.
And its not just me. Reading the other reviews shows that this is a real problem at Tradesy. But other sites have taken measures to prevent this, such as Vestiaire that check items before sending them to the buyer. A simple fix to a problem Tradesy is having. But here i am, worse of than how i was before and Tradesy does nothing to help the problem that their own serves has.

In the event a buyer requests a return, the item is returned to Tradesy HQ to be inspected. Our team considers a wide variety of factors including your original description and photos, the buyer's claim, shipping timeframes, buyer/seller history, etc. before determining how a return is processed. Unfortunately our team found that stock images had been used for your sale and therefore did not have any other images to compare the item to.

Don't trust the return policy

"Tried to return an item and they refused to accept it even though I followed the policy to make the return. They said the best they could do is a store credit which months later I still do not see in my account so it looks like I am out $3,800 and not much I can do about it. No return, no credit and they still have the watch. "

We're sorry for any inconvenience regarding our return policy. Our return policy states that you are able to submit a return request within 4 days from the delivery date for a Tradesy site credit. In the event an item is as described, we can not pull the earnings from the seller to issue a refund, therefore a credit is made available to you to purchase an item you do love. We understand this may not be ideal for you however our goal is to make our policies as fair as possible to both buyers and sellers alike.

Additionally, our return policy also states that we must have the item at our headquarters within 10 days of your request date - this is to ensure that the item is in the same condition as it originally arrived to you from the seller. Your item was shipped from your location 15 days after your return request date and as a courtesy, our team still accepted your return and issued a site credit.

"I never heard of this site before until today. I received an email showing me purchasing a pair of sunglasses , which by the way I did not order. I can't get in touch with no one to cancel the order. I sent emails with no reply.

FAKE WALLET AND STUCK WITH SITE CREDIT!!!!!

"I am so disappointed in Tradesy, I have not ever had a worse experience with a website and its customer service. I bought a Louis Vuitton wallet and was displeased with it. So I returned it during the 4 day window and received a site credit for over $600. I then made a second purchase for a different Louis Vuitton wallet which cost a bit more so I used the $600+ credit and paid about $150. When I received it some of the lining was coming off on the inside of the wallet. I first contacted the seller, who told me to go through Tradesy for the return. I contacted Tradesy and I processed the return I received a site credit again. THEN, I received a message from the third-party seller saying she had just discovered it was FAKE (would share picture of the message if this website allowed me to share picture). Had I not returned the wallet I would have been stuck with a FAKE WALLET that I paid about $800 for! I called Tradesy to try and get a refund of the full amount--I believe they should understand that despite their "policy" someone who has had such a dismal experience with their website would have no reason to have any confidence in this site. Now I am stuck with a $675 site credit that I will NEVER use. Tradesy has effectively stolen my money. I would recommend to everyone that they DO NOT SHOP ON TRADESY."

SELLER BEWARE

"If I could give NO stars, that rating would be more accurate. There is NO seller protection from Tradesy even though they advertise there is. I sold an AUTHENTIC Kate Spade item which they returned because they said it was InAuthentic.. I purchased the item DIRECTLY from Kate Spade myself and had the receipt proving authenticity, which I sent with the item, in its original box, to the buyer. I got no box, no receipt, and a FAKE wallet back. I know this because I took it to Kate Spade to have it authenticated. Can I do anything about this? NO, because the ONLY way you can communicate with the returns department is through email!! U can't talk to anyone directly!! So now I am out the money AND the AUTHENTIC wallet while I'm sure the buyer is reselling for more money, or spending the cash SHE made on the sale! I have deactivated my 46 listings on Tradesy and will NEVER use this site again. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB. If you're thinking of selling on this site, I would advise anyone to think twice before listing anything!!"

Bad costumer service stay away!

"I sold authentic Hermes bag&scarves as a bundle. Buyer returned the bag to tradesy and they done 'inspection' and determined that my bag was miss presented and I received an email saying that I am receiving the bag back. A few days goes by and I received the bag completely squeezed and out of shape. But once I realized my scarves aren't there I was completely shocked. They even had the nerve to send me ONE EMPTY BOX that belongs to one of the scarves. I reached out right away through email and called the following day. They told me to wait for an email back as the return department can't be reached by phone (really? Such an important part of the company can't be reached by phone?) anyways before I hung up I asked the supervisor I was talking with if it's usuall that they return only 1 out of 3 items and give the buyer a full refund- she said she can't answer that.
After two days finally I got an email from a lady name Laura, which was absolutely NO HELP and kept telling me that she can't see any damages that caused to the bag from inappropriate shipping (it was very obvious) and that tradesy does NOT cover gifts that where sent with the main item (I was completely shocked, I might included the scarves with the bag but it was in no way just a gift for anyone to take for free as I was paying $250 for those scarves. Plus NO other selling or listing site issues refund if 1 out of three items has been returned by the buyer, especially if they had the item for
inspection right when the buyer send it to them!)
So now I'm out of pocket $250 for the scarves and $170 that I need to pay to Hermes to get this bag bag to shape since tradesy damaged it sending it in too small of a box

Lost package, poor information and charged for purchase

"This is the first time I have ordered on Tradesy. I never received my package and I reported this to the seller and Tradesy as well as my local postal carrier. Tradesy says my package was sent and did not reimburse me for my purchase or even offer to support me in recovery of funds spent for the loss of my package and purchase. Tradesy withdrew funds from my account prior to package loss verification. The seller lost tracking number originally and then said she found it after several days of delay. I am out 198.00 dollars. This has never happened to me before with any purchase I have ever made. I would not recommend purchasing from this site. This was a birthday gift for my daughter. It has been a huge disappointment. There is no opportunity to speak with anyone and the seller seemed unconcerned with the loss of my purchase. "
